Chapter 157: Hydra
Chapter 157: Hydra
Sol and his group had left the neutral city after two days of rest and buying supplies; they did not plan on stopping in any other city on the final stretch of their journey.
It would be a two-week journey according to his estimation, it was already counting that they needed to fight any enemy they met and hide from powerful creatures.
These past two days, he could not forget his small encounter with the narcissistic man, for some reason, it kept popping up in his mind.
It always made him grit his teeth when he remembered how that young man called Hades act, but the strange thing was he could not get it out of his head.
"What is wrong with me? I can't even remember his face but that moment always comes to my mind!" it made him frustrated.
"Sol, what is wrong, You seem to be uneasy since two days ago? We already leave the city so you don't need to be anxious," Tea tried to calm him down.
"It's not what you think, in the city I met this person when I went out to eat and I could not seem to get that person out of my mind?" he explained.
"Huh? Don't tell me you fall in love? What kind of beauty did you meet?" one of Hilda's teammates joined in.
That made Sol feel very awkward, "no way, as far as I remember I'm not attracted to men and I could not even remember his face, and only feel irritated when I remember him," he denied in his head.
He did not entertain the notion after it devolved into a love talk as he knew they would keep pestering him and insist on their view even, he tried to change the topic.
"By the way, how did you guys survive being transferred to the more dangerous part of the underworld when you first come in?" he asked.
"It's more of a luck I think, we rarely meet any creature and at some point, he finds a lake where we used to be a minor demigod," Hilda told him.
"Lake that helps you become a minor demigod? Does such a place really exist? If that kind of place really exists then won't everyone become a minor demigod already?" Tea asked before he could.
"We also find it strange but there is no denying the result, even though each of us was infinitely close to advancing, it was the statue in the middle of the lake that gave us the chance to make the final jump," Hilda answered.
A statue that can give people insight, That actually interests him very much, Even though Sol did not know what was the requirement to advance to be a major demigod but he could deepen his understanding of his ability even more if he gained more insight.
The thing was they were hard-pressed for time and could not take a detour, it would be better that they go to finish their mission.
They did not know how long until the war started so they could not waste any time, not only their friends' lives were on the line but the entire underworld as well.
A battle on the level of a major god might be able to destroy a realm, as long as they stayed there, no place was safe.
"Actually, we should reach the lake in a day if we keep following our route," Hilda said.
"Eh? But there is nothing on the map, are you sure it's ahead?" Tea looked at the map once more to make sure.
"I'm sure, you can just see for yourself if you don't believe me," the military woman replied.
They continued their journey, and just like Hilda said, they soon arrived on a lake with a little island in the middle, in the island was an altar. Each of them could feel an ancient aura from the altar and they could see a little statue on it.
Sol thought the statue would be bigger but it turned out it was no bigger than thirty centimeters in height.
"Hilda, if the statue is so small, what don't you just take it with you?" he asked in curiosity.
"We can't move it, it was as if something was holding it in place," she told him.
Looking at the altar, Sol remembered his time in the trial ground, he would try to finish all kinds of trials to get a treasure on the altar in order to be a minor demigod.
"This altar might be different since Hilda and the other did not need to finish any trial and already become a minor demigod," he thought.
"So, what are we gonna do now?" Hilda asked.
"Let me try to take it, if we can't take it in the end then we have no other way but to leave it behind," he told her.
She had told him that the statue did not have any effect on minor demigods, but it was still precious anyway, if he could bring it home then he could raise an army of minor demigods with its help.
"Okay, you can try," she agreed as there was no harm in trying.
Sol conjured a path of ice to the island and they went directly to the island, Sol and Tea had not tried to take the statue so there might be a chance to bring it home.
Once they reach the island, Sol suddenly feels uneasy, if he were to describe it then it would be his intuition telling him that there was something not right.
He raised his knife and started to conjure as much knife aura as he could, which alarmed the other, everyone was getting ready for a battle, they thought there might be an ambush on the island.
The lake ripple and burst as nine snake heads appear from the lake, each head was bigger than a truck and they could feel intense danger from each of them.
The snake's heads opened their mouth and spit out green goo at them, the air was sizzling when it came in contact with the goo.
Sol and the others did not need to touch them to know it was dangerous, each of them conjured a barrier to block the goo.
Rather than a simple barrier that defended themselves, they conjured a layered barrier that had each of their ability to block the goo.
"Major demi-titan!" they grew alarmed in their mind as they could sense the snake's power.
Had they blocked the goo by themself then it would surely pierce their barrier in a second, with their combined strength, Sola and the other got enough time to dodge before the barrier got shattered.
They dodge to the side just in time, the place they were standing on was melting from the green goo.
They might have mistaken the nine head for nine minor demi-titan instead of a major demi-titan if not for they had heard enough myth to know at the first sight that they just met the fabled Hydra.
"Nine headed hydra! Be careful, don't get hit by it spit, it will reduce you to nothing!" Sol warned.
He remembered Nerodia told him about hydra, it was only a major demi-titan but it could not be killed.
Myth said that the only way to kill it was to cut each head and burn the wound so they could not revive but according to her, the hydra could not be killed at all.
Burning each of their heads would only make it slower for the head to revive, after a few dozen years it would be revived once more.
The only saving grace was each head was only slightly stronger than a minor demi-titan in strength so they would not be killed instantly by them.
Everyone started to run back to increase their distance from the demi-titan as it would be stupid to fight it on melee.
They used their ability to slow the creature down as much as they could while dodging the rain of green goo that it shot at each of them.
Each head's defense was no weaker than a major demi-titan that their attack was barely hurting the snake.
The major demigod had resistance to their ability so it was expected that they could hardly hurt it.
"We need to run!" Hilda said urgently.
"No if we conjure a path then it can just aim at our path and we can't dodge, even if we split up, it has nine heads so it can just kill us with one head each!" Sol denied.
"We can't hurt it, there is no way to win!" Tea agreed with Hilda.
"I can do something, Just give me some time," Sol told them as he dodged another goo that splatters beside him.
It became a game of cat and rat as they could only run from the hydra, it's only a matter of time before they made a mistake.
Sol conjured dozens of giant creatures to block the goo but they met instantly once hit so he stopped conjuring them and focused on dodging.
"Fuck! I need a few hours at best and I am not even sure that enough!" he cursed as he conjured more knife aura.
