Chapter 24
Chapter 24
Jing Yunzhao had decided to mainly stay in the school accommodation, but Physician Gan and Ms. Kim didn’t approve of the idea.
“My house is near the school, and only my family and I stay there. Why don’t you stay with me instead? I can take care of you better that way,” Ms. Kim offered kindly.
Jing Yunzhao was only a fifteen-year old girl after all, and Ms. Kim didn’t want her to stay in the school’s accommodation where she would miss out on growing up with love and attention.
“Come to think of it, I do have a house near your school too,” Physician Gan said thoughtfully.
“It’s a small house with three bedrooms and one living room. The only two tenants there now are my granddaughter and grandson who are around your age and attend the same school as you. They act like adults and refuse to stay with their parents. You can stay there with them if you don’t mind, but it comes at a price,” Physician Gan said with a smile and Jing Yunzhao watched him curiously.
Ms. Kim knitted her brows the moment she heard Physician Gan wanted to charge Jing Yunzhao, but Physician Gan stopped her before she could say anything.
“By price I mean three conditions. The first condition is that your results have to be in the top twenty in the entire school. Secondly, I will give you a monthly test on medical knowledge. The test won’t be difficult, but you must pass it. The third and last condition is that tenants have to follow me for physician office visits at least once a week.”
Jing Yunzhao instantly understood why the conditions existed
Gan Songbo’s grandchildren must have longed for free and independent lives which would not happen if they lived with adults. Gan Songbo had set these rules to give them the life they wanted, and at the same time make sure that they did not slack off and fall behind.
Jing Yunzhao was tempted by Gan Songbo’s offer.
She would have to be extra careful when she entered her secret space if she decided to stay in the school’s accommodation, and while Gan Songbo’s medical skills might not be as good as her ancestor’s, he was a physician with decades of experience.
It would be really useful for a beginner like her to follow him on his physician office visits.
As for the ‘price’ that Physician Gan was charging, they were actually conditions designed for students’ own good. No matter what happened, she would not take advantage of Physician Gan.
“I will stop calling you Physician Gan and call you Grandpa Gan instead. I do like your offer, but my master taught me not to take a reward that I don’t deserve. You have helped me a lot and I really do not want to keep owing you. My master left me some money so I can afford to pay you rent…”
“I will treat you as my adopted granddaughter since you are calling me Grandpa Gan, so there is no reason why I should collect rent from you. You can follow me on physician office visits more often to earn your keep if you feel bad,” said Gan Songbo firmly.
Jing Yunzhao’s mind went blank for a second, her face turning red in embarrassment.
She had blurted out ‘Grandpa Gan’ without thinking.
Gan Songbo was a kind man with great medical skills who had been helping her out selflessly even though he had only just met her. She hadn’t met anyone like Gan Songbo before, not even in her previous life that she had lived for over twenty years.
“Alright then, Grandpa. Please feel free to give me any work in that case,” said Jing Yunzhao smilingly, feeling her heart warm at Gan Songbo’s words. She said ‘grandpa’ so earnestly that Gan Songbo was overwhelmed with joy.
“I apologize, Ms. Kim, but you know how much my adopted granddaughter likes medical knowledge, and staying with my grandchildren would give her the chance to make friends. Please don’t be worried; Jing Yunzhao is a good girl and I will make sure that she is never wronged again. Please take care of her when she is at school,” Gan Songbo said to Ms. Kim, stroking Jing Yunzhao’s hair affectionately.
