Chapter 36
C36 – The Secret of Darkness Forest!
As we traveled, Ferocious Beasts lay strewn across the ground, their lifeblood drained. Even the Power of Vitality from an Inscription Stage warrior could be completely sapped by these beasts.
“Could it be that something from the Darkness Forest has emerged?” Tang Nuolan, who had encountered many formidable individuals, felt a chill of fear at the thought.
The carcass of a Spirit Fusion Stage Ferocious Beast was sprawled on the earth. Mo Changyou remained composed as he detected the profoundly malevolent presence, his gaze piercing into the heart of the Darkness Forest.
In his past life, Mo Changyou had been a Monarch, well-acquainted with such sinister auras.
“It’s the aura of death,” Mo Changyou murmured, squinting into the forest’s depths. Invisible and intangible, the substance was nonetheless palpable to his keen senses.
Such an aura could only originate from the Forbidden Zone.
Surveying the devastated landscape, Mo Changyou, with Tang Nuolan on his back, advanced toward the source.
Trees lay in ruins, and mighty Ferocious Beasts were scattered lifelessly about.
A dark cave loomed ahead, its interior shrouded in mystery.
“We’re less than five kilometers from the snow mountain. Could it have come from there?” Mo Changyou pondered.
If the Darkness Forest indeed contained a powerful Evil Demon, the mechanism that restrained it might still be in place but recently compromised, allowing the demon to break free.
Mo Changyou suspected that an external force had discovered the Evil Demon and had come to liberate it from its seal.
“What lies within this cave?” Tang Nuolan asked, her voice betraying a hint of her noble upbringing and the shock of witnessing so many Ferocious Beast corpses.
”I’m not certain. However, we must either venture in and confront whatever resides there or stay here and face certain death,” Mo Changyou stated with chilling calm.
He knew that whatever resided in the cave had them in its sights. If even a Spirit Fusion Stage Ferocious Beast couldn’t escape, their chances were slim.
With Tang Nuolan in tow, Mo Changyou stepped into the cave. Extending his hand, he summoned a burst of Spirit Energy, igniting a flame that illuminated the vast cavern. Ancient runes emerged layer upon layer, revealing a cavernous space over thirty feet high, adorned with Divine Patterns throughout.
As they ventured deeper into the cave, the number of skeletal remains increased.
Before them lay the immense skeleton of a Flood Dragon.
The remains of the Flood Dragon, stretching dozens of yards long, were reduced to a pristine white skeleton, its flesh and blood completely absorbed.
Yet, even in death, its bones radiated a soft glow, a testament to the Flood Dragon’s formidable strength when alive.
“This Flood Dragon was at the Inscription Stage,” Mo Changyou deduced. The presence of a Beast King emanated from it, indicating that this Flood Dragon had once been the sovereign of the Darkness Forest.
Clearly, such intricate patterns etched into the skeleton could only be the work of an Inscription Expert.
“An Inscription Expert has fallen,” Tang Nuolan murmured, her concern growing.
They stood no chance against a Spirit Fusion Stage adversary, and here lay the remains of one. How could Tang Nuolan not feel apprehensive?
Mo Changyou pressed on, his eyes briefly scanning the dazzling array of runes that adorned the cave, committing each one to memory.
Eventually, they reached a dead end at the bottom of the cave, where nothing more than a heap of rubble awaited them.
But in that moment, a chilling voice broke the silence.
“After tens of thousands of years, I finally behold a few humans.” Suddenly, a shadowy mist materialized behind Mo Changyou, and a pair of eyes, burning with intensity, fixed on him and Tang Nuolan.
Only the vital essence of the Human Clan could distill the immortal substance that granted eternal life to the entities within the Forbidden Zone.
Clearly, this malevolent spirit could no longer conceal itself due to the lengthy suppression. On the brink of a natural death, it sought the vital essence of the Human Clan to extract the immortal substance and sustain its existence.
And so, it had escaped.
Tang Nuolan, facing the demon, was fraught with anxiety.
If an Inscription Stage Flood Dragon had perished at the hands of this demon, its true power was unfathomable.
“Damn!” Tang Nuolan’s expression darkened. She felt as powerless as a novice Body Refining warrior, utterly outmatched by this fiend.
“An entity from the Forbidden Zone? Now that is intriguing. You’ve managed to survive in the Azure Dragon’s domain for so many years,” Mo Changyou remarked, his tone light and detached as he regarded the demon before him.
“How could you possibly know of the Azure Dragon?” The demon’s face turned ashen. He had been subdued and imprisoned here by members of the Azure Dragon Army years ago. In days gone by, the Azure Dragon Army, serving under the Heavenly Book Monarch, could even challenge the Monarch himself. How could he ever hope to resist them? And so, he had been trapped here for tens of thousands of years.
Lately, the seal had weakened, and his Vitality had been depleted. His only means of survival was to consume the essence of the Human Clan’s blood and refine the immortal substances within. Desperate, he fought to escape his bonds.
“You might be a descendant of the Azure Dragon, but what of it? You’re merely a practitioner at the Energy Condensation Level 5!” The demon’s face twisted once more, this time into a mocking sneer.
He had indeed felt a moment of fear earlier. The very name of the Azure Dragon was enough to instill terror.
The Divine Pattern that had once held him captive belonged to an era long past, its secrets now lost to time. No one today could wield its power.
Which meant, without a doubt, that these two individuals before him were doomed.
