Chapter 300 Tauri Kingdom
Chapter 300 Tauri Kingdom
Jake trotted along a long, unwinding road. His horse's legs were caked in mud, with trees towering over him and covering the sun.
The road was thin and had no end in sight, being completely empty as well.
It was desolate, and Jake had one hand on his sword, ready for any one to attack him.
He tapped on the black, luxurious mane of his horse, which sped up a step or two.
Smiling, Jake looked around once again, scanning the trees. He could never be careful, now that he was in unsafe territory.
"I didn't want to come here again. After what happened last time, this place is the last place I should be in the world." Jake sighed as he thought to himself.
Being this close to the Evil Lands, he was begging to be noticed by the Evil God. Sure, the gods had better things to do than to care about some random player.
But that was what he thought the last time, and clearly, he was proven wrong. When working with a petty god like that, it was always better to be safe than sorry.
He dug his heel into the horse sharply, and the horse neighed with a high pitched voice.
Immediately, it sprang in a short burst, rushing down the slope of the road. As Jake went down the slope, he could slowly see something ahead of him.
There were walls, broken and torn down.
"I'm here again." Jake shuddered just thinking about what happened.
The horse also seemed to get a burst of energy seeing that their journey finally had a destination that they could see.
It started sprinting even faster, raising a dust cloud behind them as they approached the giant walls of this city.
Jake pulled on the reins and the horse slowly started to come to a snail pace.
They started walking toward the giant, closed city doors.
"Halt!"
A loud sound stopped Jake and his mouth dead in their tracks.
Jake looked up at the city walls, where he could see a small shadow visible from where he was.
"How did I not see them when I was coming here? They are good at hiding themselves. But why hide? What are they hiding from?" Jake wondered as he shouted back.
"I am Shadow King! I am here to answer an adventurer guild quest to help the Tauri Kingdom!" He yelled in the top of his lungs.
There was a long pause, and the silence was deafening.
Crack!
Five minutes later, the doors started to creak open. They moved painfully slowly, and it took a few minutes before Jake could see what was within.
His eyes opened wide as he got off the horse, pulling it with him into the city.
Within, he could see almost immediately that there were hundreds, no, thousands of people just walking around, talking to each other.
"These many people? How are they so confident? This close to the Evil Lands?" He thought to himself as he kept walking.
"Stop right there. I need to see some identification." The same voice that Jake heard outside resounded in his ears.
Jake looked to the side, where a tall, thin knight was standing next to him. He looked menacing enough for a city guard, and there was the usual arrogance that Jake had gotten used to.
It was just that he didn't expect it here of all places.
"Identification… I don't believe the adventurer's guide gave me any identification." Jake shook his head.
"Then follow me. We have to take our precautions. These are sensitive times for our kingdom, and we cannot afford to be careless." the city guard said.
Jake just nodded. He didn't want to get into a fight the moment he got here. After all, he liked this kingdom very much.
The horse behind him whined as it started walk behind Jake. It resisted sometimes, but finally had to yield when Jake started to drag it behind him.
"Are you from Loviel, or did you just teleport there?" The city guard suddenly asked.
"How did you-"
"You bear the mark of Loviel Nobility. And your horse is a Loviel Breed. The black studs of Silversword is a distinction for Diffast. In a past life, I wandered around those fields." The man said.
Jake nodded as they approached a building that was merged into the city walls. The city guard beckoned at Jake to tie up the horse to the side.
Jake obliged and both of them walked into the small building.
"You will have to sign these documents to prove that you have entered after a checking. Since you bear a mark of nobility, it means you are allowed to skip most of the there procedures." The guard said.
"Thank god. I don't have the time to start carrying around papers of my residence and nonsense like that. Why make a game when you have to rely on these things?" Jake wondered as he just tapped on the paper that guard pushed toward him.
[Sign Document?
Y/N]
Jake scanned through the paper and he frowned slightly.
"I am here to hunt monsters. I have to take care of the Evil Beasts. What is with the weird terms of the paper? Embassy? Diplomat? What do you have here?" Jake asked.
The guard paused for a second before pushing the paper forward to him again.
"It is in your best interest that you sign this paper. You are a noble from Loviel anyway, so you will not get implicated at all. But if you don't, then you will have to face a little trouble." The city guard cracked his knuckles and looked at Jake menacingly.
"I was wondering just why this whole process was happening. Looks like I can't escape this wherever I go." Jake shook his head and sighed.
