Chapter 299 Return to the Adventure Guild

Chapter 299 Return to the Adventure Guild

Jake looked up at the wooden sign at the entrance of the tavern. The street was bustling, and people were entering and exiting the place, crowding it.

Slowly, Jake started walking into the place, clenching his fist.

"Please be easy this time. Please be easy this time." He muttered as he entered the giant tavern.

Inside, the adventure guild was bustling as always.

"Hey! It's a baron!" Someone shouted.

Jake smiled as he remembered what happened last time. It was like Deja Vu. But now was not the time to reminisce. He was on a time crunch.

He made his way to the long line that led to the receptionist desk of the adventurer's guild.

"Of course everyone is trying to ascend right about now. Last time I was here, at least I was ahead of the curve." Jake thought to himself as he moved forward one spot.

The line was gruelingly slow, and it took almost half an hour before he got to the start of the line.

"Hello." Jake's tired face suddenly turned cheerful as he looked at the stunningly beautiful woman that sat in front of him.

It was a different girl as compared to the receptionist he saw the last time he was here. But one thing that was characteristic about these receptionist girls was that they were made to be unrealistically beautiful.

"Let me guess. Quest? Tier Ascension?" The girl looked Jake in the eyes without blinking, with a faint smile.

"Read my mind. I would like to attempt my tier ascension quest. With the blessing of the adventure god this time." Jake said.

"Looks like you are expecting something that you can't handle. The blessing is pretty expensive." The girl raised her eyebrows as she looked at Jake.

"The last time I ascended my tier, it took a lot of luck to get through it. I would rather not take any chances this time." Jake shrugged.

"I won't discourage you. Quite the contrary. Too few decide to take the blessing. They don't understand how fruitful their adventures become once they are blessed by our god." She said.

Jake just nodded, looking at her calmly.

"Your tier ascension… well this is interesting. Looks like you got a pretty hard one. The gods have decided that you should be properly tested." The girl paused for a second before her expression changed.

"Sigh." Jake sighed and shook his head.

Of course this was going to happen to him. He didn't hate it. This was just a consequence of having one of, if not the best class in the world.

But this was something that was going to haunt him for a long, long time. Now, he had to get through another grueling class quest.

"It seems like the last time you were here, you went to the evil lands? That is rare, especially for someone as weak as you!"

Jake smiled bitterly at that comment. What was he supposed to say in response to that?

"Well, you did a spectacular job the last time you were there. Your mission this time will be two fold. The adventure god has given you a quest to fulfill a friendship you have made in your travels. And the god of light requests your help in a more… serious matter."

Jake frowned, not understanding what this meant.

"The evil lands are shrinking, but that means that the beasts are more violent now than ever before. And with that retaliation, the adventure guild is knee deep in quests. We can't offer any man power to help any kingdom.

However, Tauri is a new kingdom. A kingdom under the god of light's protection. So you are tasked with helping them out because we don't have enough men." She said.

"Tauri… I heard that name somewhere…" Jake started racking his brain trying to figure out where he heard that name before.

"And as for the god of light, that quest is something that you will receive personally." The girl said and smiled.

"I wish you the best of luck for your quest. And as for the blessing, the payment is three gold coins."

Jake nodded and absentmindedly put the gold coins on the counter before turning.

"I can swear I have heard this name before. It feels like it is important." He thought to himself.

"Oh well. I guess I'll figure it out soon enough." He shrugged.

Ding!

"And of course the penalty also goes up." Jake shook his head.

"I swear to god, this just get more and more ridiculous. They want me to take care of a cursed item? That book of the undead?" He wanted to punch the wall next to him.

The book of undead was a terrifying item in his past life. He wasn't implicated too much by it, because he was nowhere near the evil lands, but he knew just how much it did.

The book was a constant spawning point for undead creatures, and as the players got stronger, so did the monsters.

The problem was, the book started growing faster than the players, and the monsters that came out started to become stronger than the players, and eventually, that meant that all the players were up for a massacre.

"Hmm… this map… Why does this seem similar? Wait a minute! Is this the place I went to during the last quest?!!"
