Chapter 1045: If We Don’t Fight Now, Then When Will We Fight?

Two days later, the Giantess came looking for Ethan and Chloe to have a chat with them. The casualties among her children this time were too many to count, making her feel heartbroken.

However, she also understood that if Ethan and Chloe hadn't appeared to help her, the casualties would have been greater.

Although she was confident that she would still be able to defeat the Golden Gargoyle, it would have been a pyrrhic victory.

"This realm will not hold for long."

Those were the first words that came out of the Giantess' lips the moment she arrived at Ethan's and Chloe's cave.

"What do you mean?" Ethan inquired. "Didn't we just defeat the enemy, Lady Xanda?"

"We did," the Giantess, who went by the name, Xanda, replied. "But after a week and after two weeks, they will return, and when they do, I will no longer be able to stop them. I have lost too many of my children, and every time they invade, they become stronger.

"Janvidr will only last two more weeks at most before I am defeated. Then the Gargoyles will take this world as their own, making it their base to conquer other planes of existence from." Ethan and Chloe looked at the Giantess with solemn expressions on their faces.

"Then is there anything that we can do?" Ethan asked.

After knowing that Xanda had been protecting not only Janvidr but also Midgard, he felt obligated to help her overcome this trial.

"There is a way..." Xanda hesitated but still replied to Ethan's question. "However, this method is far too dangerous. In order to stop the Gargoyles from invading this realm, we must invade theirs as well. However, with just the three of us and my children, it's impossible to win.

"Also, we need to do it in a week's time-ten days at most. Because after that, the Gargoyles will regain the forces that they lost in this battle."

Ethan pondered a bit before nodding in understanding.

"Very well, we will return in a week, Lady Xanda," Ethan replied. "After that, we will attack the Realm of the Gargoyles."

The Giantess didn't know if Ethan was lying or not, but she knew that this was really her problem and not the young man's.

She could have left the Realm of Janvidr and gone to other worlds. However, she wasn't sure if she and her children would be welcomed.

In fact, they might even come under siege, which would truly be a very sorrowful fate.

Seeing that the Giantess had a doubtful look on her face, Ethan pressed his right fist over his chest and made a solemn vow.

"Lady Xanda, even if others are not aware of the sacrifices you have made to protect Janvidr and Midgard from the invasion of Otherworlders, know that I, Ethan Gremory, recognize everything that you have done," Ethan stated.

"As such, I make this pledge to you. I will return within a week to help you invade the Gargoyle Realm and make sure that they do not bother you and your children ever again."

Xanda was moved by Ethan's words. She could feel the sincerity in his words, and his gaze was filled with determination.

"Your name is Ethan, right?" Xanda smiled. "Very well. I will trust you this time."

The Giantess then tapped the young man's head with her index finger, placing her seal of approval inside his body.

"Go, Ethan, and prepare for war," Xanda said.

Ethan nodded and held Chloe's hand. He could feel that the Giantess and the Realm of Janvidr had given him their approval, allowing them to return to the Sylvan Realm.

As soon as Ethan and Chloe disappeared, Xanda finally covered her face and sobbed.

She was a prideful individual, so she held back, not wanting others to see her in a sorry state.

The death of her children was too much to bear. And hearing Ethan's words that touched her heart, she felt that she finally gained recognition for all the sacrifices that she had made in the past.

Not far away, an old man wearing an eye patch looked at Xanda's lonely form in the distance and sighed.

"I'm very sorry, Xanda," the old man wearing an eye patch said softly. "You have truly suffered."

A moment later, an eight-legged horse nudged the side of his head, as if telling him that it was now time to go.

The old man nodded and climbed aboard his fateful steed.

He gave Xanda one last glance before he left to assist her in a way that would not break the laws of the world.

Inside the Fortress of Sylvarath Aelindor...

"I see..." A frown appeared in Lady Arawina's face as Ethan and Chloe narrated the events that happened inside the realm of Janvidr.

The hundreds of Firbolgs that surrounded them spoke in hushed whispers after the two finished their tale.

When the two teenagers had returned from their quest, the Bell of Janvidr rang nine times, informing everyone within the fortress that someone had passed the trial.

All the important people within the Fortress, including the Great Shaman, Lady Arawina, went to the Stone Stele to see Ethan and Chloe.

Those who passed would gain the recognition of the Firbolgs, so the story they told was immediately believed without questions.

"If Janvidr falls, does that mean that the Sylvan Realm is next?"

"While the chances of that happening are low, the possibility still exists."

"What should we do? Should we evacuate and change locations?"

"Sylvarath Aelindor is the last bastion of us Firbolgs. If this falls, there will not be another

safe place to stay in the world."

Ethan and Chloe listened to the discussions around them, not saying anything that'd interrupt their discussion.

Only after everyone quieted down and shifted their attention back to them did he take the chance to make his thoughts known.

"I promised Lady Xanda that I would return in a week to help her invade the Realm of the Gargoyles and finally put a stop to their invasion. I just want all of you to know that the Giantess of Janvidr has fought these invaders countless times in the past, not only to protect Midgard, but also the Sylvan Realm.

"She has been fighting alongside her Wolf Children each time, and the sacrifices she has made cannot be measured through words. I know that this may sound high-handed of me, but I humbly ask all of you to join us in this battle. If we don't fight now, then when will we fight?" The Firbolgs exchanged uneasy glances with each other, and even Lady Arawina looked

conflicted.

None spoke for the truly didn't know what to do at this point in time.

The Firbolgs were a peaceful race that hated war and conflict, but they also understood that

they couldn't run forever.

Ethan smiled bitterly before giving Lady Arawina a bow. He then took Chloe's hand and

walked away, headed toward the exit of the Fortress.

Chloe didn't resist and followed her lover's lead.

She would do everything in her power to support Ethan.

Even if he planned to go to damnation and beyond, she would be there with him all the way.

After exiting the Fortress, Ethan summoned his Wind Dancer, seated Chloe on the bike behind him, and flew towards the direction where they appeared the first time.

When they landed on the hill, he immediately set up camp.

Clearly, he had no intention of leaving the Sylvan Realm.

The reason why he left the Fortress was to let the Firbolgs make their decision without any pressure from his presence. They might be their friends now, but they were still the ones who needed to make the choice to fight or not.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om

After setting up the camp, Ethan sat cross-legged and took the Crystal Ball to inform Professor Rinehart of what had happened in the Realm of Janvidr.

The Headmaster of the Academy listened and didn't interrupt him until his story was done.

A/N: Only one chapter today. I had been reading a lot since morning, and when the time came

for me to write, my eyes made me feel nauseous to the point of puking, which is very uncomfortable.

I might have strained them too much, so I can only write one chapter today. Sorry guys, regular chapters will resume tomorrow.
