Chapter 99 - LUNCH TOGETHER

"Lucas, are you still not done?" Michelle, who had been sitting on the sofa, seemed to move towards Lucas' desk. Meanwhile, Lucas was still busy signing some of the reports that had piled up on the table.

It was already lunch time. However, Lucas seemed reluctant to end his activities. He even tried to slow down the work, remembering Michelle who still hadn't moved from that place and was still faithfully waiting for him to finish.

Yes, that's all he did was just an attempt to avoid Michelle. He had repeatedly refused her invitation to have lunch together. However, Michelle continued to push him.

"Come on, Lucas . . . just take it as a thank you for taking me to the hospital."

Michelle's request a few hours ago, forced Lucas to accept the invitation. However, when the time came, he deliberately slowed down his work. Ah, if it wasn't for last night's deal, maybe he could have freely refused and even protested against Michelle for constantly pushing him.

"Lucas, I know you're very disappointed, maybe even really hate me, but if I may ask, I still want to be by your side one last time."

Michelle's words last night, really managed to melt Lucas' heart, so the man couldn't do much other than fulfill the woman's request. Of course Lucas felt sorry for Michelle's condition last night. How could he have the heart to hurt her when he was so helpless?

Ah, he seems to be stuck in a complicated situation that requires him to choose two equally difficult things. Between having to fulfill Michelle's request or not, he certainly doesn't know and can't decide which is the most appropriate choice.

On the one hand he felt sorry for Michelle. However, on the other hand he is also afraid if she expects more and considers himself to be giving a second chance. Ah, everything went awry. Finally, he decided to accept Michelle's request, even if only as a friend.

However, seeing Michelle who kept trying to get close, even willing to wait for him for hours, made him think back to what Ellena said this morning. Could a wife's bond be that strong, even though Ellena still couldn't be called a real wife to him? Ellena's words seemed to be a prayer for him.

Lucas paused for a moment, then looked up at Michelle who had just landed on the chair opposite him.

"Michelle, I told you I have a lot of work today. I don't think I can accompany you to lunch." Lucas said subtly, hoping Michelle would understand how his busy, even though he was deliberately keeping himself busy in front of her.

Regarding work, Lucas could actually do it after lunch. However, he really didn't want to have lunch with Michelle. His head was always filled with the image of Ellena.

Ah, surely Ellena would be jealous if she found out he had lunch with another woman, moreover that woman was his ex-lover.

"Lucas, just this once ... I've been waiting for you for a long time. Don't you want to appreciate a bit of my effort?" Whined Michelle put on a pitiful face.

Lucas took a deep breath, then placed the pen he was holding onto the table. He looked confused at the woman in front of him. Somehow he had to respond to the spoiled whining he used to love so much but now made his feel uncomfortable.

"I really appreciate your effort, but I really can't leave this job." Lucas explained in a very careful tone, hoping that Michele wouldn't be offended by his remark.

"But you promised me, Lucas!" Michelle protested against Lucas' refusal.

Lucas snorted harshly. Somehow he had to explain and thwart his lunch plans with Michelle.

"Okay, wait until I finish a few more reports." He said coldly, then grabbed the ballpoint pen again, about to resume activities that had been delayed.

While Lucas was busy with his work, Michelle looked annoyed and frowned. She stared blankly at the figure in front of her who looked downcast in focus with several report documents.

"Okay, if you're busy. I'll buy food for both of us. You can't refuse this time!" Michelle said as she got up from her seat with a slightly annoyed expression. She then left from there towards the exit.

This caught Lucas' attention. "Where are you going?" He asked, furrowing his brows, puzzled.

Michelle's steps stopped, when only three footsteps moved. She then turned around, looking at Lucas who was staring at her. "I'll buy food for both of us. You wait here, don't go anywhere!" message and immediately rushed out of the room.

Meanwhile, Lucas just shook his head at Michelle's attitude. Since the first, Michelle has always had a thousand ways to get Lucas to accept her request and in fact it's still the same until now.

Lucas leaned back against the back of the chair. He then grabbed the phone that was lying on the table.

Letting Michelle out of the room seemed like a good opportunity for him. He also decided to contact his wife whom he always missed every second, especially since last night's incident. Ah, He feels wants to go home and meet that woman.

Me :

'Honey, have you had lunch?'

Type Lucas in the whatsapp message sent to the contact number labeled "My Elle".

Lucas seemed to focus on the cellphone screen, without intending to return to the front screen. He stared at the two ticks listed below the message until it turned blue. Instantly he smiled when he received a reply from someone who became his object.

My Elle :

'Already.'

"Ah, he's so cold. Doesn't he want to know if I've eaten or not?" Lucas groaned in frustration when he received a reply that was not as expected.

He retyped a few letters on the phone screen. Not long after, he sent another message to Ellena.

Me :

'I have not eaten.'

Lucas deliberately replied like that, hoping to get the attention of his wife. Again his smile widened when Ellena replied to him message again.

My Elle :

'Why?'

Although Ellena's reply was very short, it didn't dampen Lucas' happiness. even more so when the woman's reply was already showing her concern for him. He immediately replied to the message and returned to attract Ellena's attention.

Me :

'My work isn't done yet. I'm so tired today.'

My Elle :

'Well, hurry up and finish your work and eat!'

Lucas stared wide-eyed at the phone screen, then straightened his seat.

"Why would she just reply like that? Shouldn't she have said, 'Honey, take care of your health, don't be too busy working and eat on time'? Lucas grumbled, displeased with his wife's last reply.

Annoyed, Lucas put the phone back where it belonged, without intending to reply to a message from Ellena.

"Why is my luck so bad? Having a wife who is cold to the north is no fun, God!" Lucas rubbed his face roughly as he plopped his back against the back of the chair.

At the same time, Michelle came with two tote boxes of food.

"Lucas, are you done?" asked Michelle who found Lucas relaxing, even though the man was frustrated because of his wife's actions.

Lucas glanced over at the sofa, then leaned back forward. "You're back? How fast?" He asked in surprise.

"Ah, it looks like you're too busy working, so it doesn't feel like I'm going long enough to buy this food at the front restaurant." Michelle replied as she put the boxes of food on the table and opened them one by one.

'Is that true? I guess I was too carried away in the disappointment my wife made herself. Ah, I'd love to pinch her nose when she's here. Wait for me to come home, Elle!' Lucas mumbled, starting a monologue in his heart.

"Lucas, let's eat!" asked Michelle, who of course this time couldn't make Lucas refuse just like that.

With lazy steps, Lucas moved his feet towards Michelle who was already sitting on the black sofa waiting for him. He then sat down on the single sofa not far from the long sofa where Michelle was sitting. He looked at Michelle's hands, which seemed to open the food boxes one by one.

Michelle had not finished with her activities, suddenly the door to the room opened and Adley's figure appeared there.

Great! Adley came just in this time. The man's arrival really brought the fruit of luck for Lucas, where he was able to have lunch with his best friend.

"Bro, what a coincidence you came. Come on, let's have lunch together!" Lucas asked, grinning happily.

Unlike Lucas, Michelle actually pursed her lips, feeling annoyed. Yes, of course she was annoyed by Adley's sudden appearance. Instantly the plan to have lunch together with Lucas failed.

"Wow, that's right! I just finished work and haven't had lunch yet." Adley replied as he sat down on the sofa opposite Michelle.

Meanwhile, Michelle did not comment anything and continued to open the box of food that she had not had time to finish.

"We had lunch together, looks like Michelle bought a lot of food. Isn't that right, Michelle?"

Michelle gasped and turned to Lucas. "Y-yes, that's right, Adley. Come on, let's eat together." She replied a little forced.

Lucas seemed to be smiling. The universe was still on his side. When he didn't want the moment to eat alone with Michelle, Adley actually came to his aid by accident.

"Okay." Adley replied happily.

Without much further comment, Michelle finally could only surrender, even though she felt very upset with Adley's appearance at the wrong time according to her.
