Chapter 43 - BAD NEWS

Lucas threw a newspaper onto the desk with such force that it made a thumping sound. His jaw seemed to harden, indicating that he was holding back his anger.

"What kind of news is this?" he growled as looked at Alex, the personal assistant who was now standing in front of him. "Who dares to play with me?" he asked then.

"I don't know exactly who it is, Sir. What is clear is that the news has been on television since last night." Alex put on a scared expression seeing Lucas' face full of anger.

"What?" Lucas was perfect. He was increasingly furious to hear the news from Alex. "Damn it!" he cursed then banged on the desk in front of him. He looked away in any direction. His gaze was glazed with a rush of breath, holding back the growing emotions.

"What should we do to subside all the news, Sir?" Alex's question instantly made Lucas turn his gaze back to the front.

"Don't be stupid, Alex! Hold a press conference soon. I won't let anyone trample on my pride like this!" Lucas glared at Alex's face, which made his personal assistant even more frightened.

Alex already knew how his boss was. He knew what it would be like if Lucas were to vent his anger. Perhaps, the entire room will be destroyed in an instant, or even worse, the entire office will disappear.

"Very well, Sir. I will immediately arrange the time, so that this matter will be resolved soon. I will excuse myself." Alex said goodbye to Lucas, then he immediately left the room.

"Selena ... I know it's your doing!" groaned Lucas reluctantly called the name back. "How dare you mess with me. Just watch! I won't let you run an inch. Aaarrrggh!" Again Lucas' hands hit his desk very hard. In fact, this time it was stronger than before, so that the pounding could be heard outside the room.

In the midst of his anger suddenly the sound of a cell phone ringing made him realize, then lowered his gaze to the cellphone lying on the table.

Without thinking, Lucas immediately grabbed the phone and put it to his ear.

"Don't bother me!" Lucas said to the person on the other end, then he ended the call again.

Lucas landed himself on the swivel chair he'd been proud of, after he put the phone back where it belonged. His face was still lit with a hardened expression and the veins tightened in his neck.

If it's really what Selena did, she will never forgive her. The woman who broke his heart into pieces.

"Aarrrgh!" Lucas groaned in frustration before finally leaning his back against the back of the chair.

He was just about to neutralize his feelings when suddenly the door to the room opened. It was certain who had entered, because there was only one person in the office who dared to enter the room without his permission. He immediately turned his attention towards the door.

A tall man was seen walking into the room. A dashing man who has almost the same body shape and height as Lucas. In fact, they are only a few months apart in age.

"Have you heard the news?" the man asked once he was right in front of Lucas' desk. It seemed, he had understood what made Lucas' expression look so heated. What's more, when Lucas snapped at him over the phone five minutes ago.

Yes, that man was the one who had called Lucas earlier. Hearing Lucas snap and hang up the phone unilaterally, made him decide to meet Lucas in person.

He is Adley Sagara, a COO (Chief Operating Officer) at the company who is none other than Lucas' friend. He has a handsome face. However, when compared, Lucas is still the winner. Because, until this moment, no one has matched Lucas' good looks in the office.

Lucas and Adley have been friends for a very long time, to be precise when they were in high school. Since the friendship was established, they are always seen together. They study in the same place, even with their undergraduate and postgraduate studies. In fact, now they are also working in the same company, according to Lucas' request.

Because of that closeness, they can trust each other and even they know almost everything about each other's love story. The two of them always talk when they have a problem.

Adley's question made Lucas give him a questioning look. "You already know?"

Adley landed on the chair in front of Lucas' desk. "I've known the news since last night," he replied, leaning his back.

"Why didn't you tell me?" Lucas leaned forward with his hands resting on the table.

"Sorry, I couldn't possibly bother you during recess." Adley's answer instantly made Lucas squint, staring at him in surprise and questioning.

How come? In fact, Adley had never been so awkward with Lucas before, but why now?

"Emm ... I mean, I don't feel good if I have to contact you, because after all you are married now," explained Adley who immediately understood the meaning of Lucas' gaze.

Lucas plopped back against the back of the chair, then he took a deep breath. "You know for yourself how our relationship."

Adley chuckled, then slightly adjusted his sitting position up. "What a poor woman. Too bad she has to live that long with you," he said in a tone that was more of a mockery to his best friend.

Lucas huffed in annoyance. How could Adley dare to mock him when he was facing such a big problem. "What do you mean?"

Instead of responding to Lucas' question, Adley chuckled even more at his best friend's expression. It seems there was something wrong with what he said.

"You think I'm so bad that you feel sorry for that woman?" Lucas's gaze grew even more sinister. Apparently, he really didn't accept Adley mocking him like that.

"No. That's not what I meant." Adley was still chuckling and trying to dismiss Lucas' accusations against him.

"So, what do you mean?" Lucas started sneering.

"I'm just sorry if that woman becomes an outlet for your every anger. That's the reason why I didn't call you last night," Adley explained later. Lucas only responded with an annoyed chuckle.

Maybe Adley's words were as mocking as Lucas felt. However, that's not really what it means. He knew very well how Lucas was when he was angry. He was only worried about Ellena if it was used as an outlet for Lucas's every anger. Because, all he knew was Lucas didn't have any feelings for Ellena. It would certainly make it easy for Lucas to use Ellena as an outlet, because Lucas would not care about the woman's feelings.

"For the matter this time, you don't need to worry, I've contacted Garry to take care of everything immediately." Adley tried to calm Lucas down. Of course he understood Lucas' concern this time.

"Thanks, Brother."
