Chapter 42 - BREAKFAST FOR LUCAS
Ellena seemed busy with the activities of preparing breakfast. This has become a new routine almost every morning. Meanwhile, Joana was asked to go to the market to buy kitchen utensils which were in very limited stock.
This time Ellena is making fried rice which will be the breakfast menu. After she finished cooking, she immediately set it on the table. However, in the midst of her activities, Lucas suddenly came out of the room. Ellena realized that, because there was no barrier between the dining room and the living room adjacent to Lucas's room.
Lucas stepped out in an elegant style while carrying a black briefcase. His appearance looks very neat and dashing with a navy work suit and glossy black loafers. One hand seemed to go into the pocket of the pants he was wearing, while his gaze was straight ahead.
Lucas just walked past the dining table, where Ellena was. Let alone to say hello, even looking at Ellena seemed reluctant.
Ellena, who noticed Lucas' cold attitude, was certainly surprised. She also took the initiative to call Lucas, before Lucas finally left the house.
"Lucas! Didn't you have breakfast first?" Ellena said as she stopped what she was doing, then looked at Lucas' back which was getting further and further away from her.
Instead of getting an answer, Lucas didn't respond at all, even though she just looked away.
Without thinking, Ellena immediately took a lunch box, then filled it with fried rice and fried eggs. She was in such a hurry to prepare all of it. In fact, she slightly ran after Lucas to the front of the house.
In front of the house, Lucas seemed to have sat in the car and prepared to drive the vehicle. However, before he could start the car engine, suddenly Ellena ran over and knocked on the car window with a little force. Lucas also refused.
"Lucas, please open the window for a second!"
Ellena still hadn't stopped knocking on the car window. She realized that Lucas was mad at her for what happened last night. That was why Lucas had been cold to her this morning. Even after she knocked repeatedly on the car window, Lucas still didn't budge.
Actually, she didn't really care if Lucas got angry in that way. In fact it was the best according to her. At least, no one would dare to bother her anymore, if Lucas was angry with being cold like that. Only, she felt sorry if Lucas had to skip breakfast just because of it.
In the car, Lucas sighed in frustration as Ellena kept tapping on his car window and begging him to open it. Disturbed by Ellena's attitude, he lowered the front car window, albeit with a bit of compulsion. He then turned his head and stared blankly at Ellena's face, without a single statement or even a question escaping his mouth.
Ellena grinned, showing a row of white and neat teeth. "I've prepared breakfast for you," she said as she slightly lifted the black lunch box, suddenly making Lucas turn his attention to it.
Lucas scrunched his face as if surprised by Ellena's sudden attention. No! He couldn't just be moved by Ellena's attitude this time. Remember! How Ellena treated him last night.
Lucas' heart and mind seemed to contradict each other. Just as his heart began to be touched by Ellena's concern this time, but his mind said otherwise. If only Ellena hadn't looked down on him last night, maybe he would have happily welcomed the lunchbox.
"No need! I can have breakfast at the office!" Without hesitation, Lucas refused Ellena's gift.
Ellena pursed her lips, feeling disappointed. However, it didn't last long. She smiled again, as if to hide her disappointment.
"Think of it as a thank you from me." Ellena raised her eyebrows as a sign for Lucas to accept the lunch box.
Instead of accepting Ellena's gift, Lucas looked even more surprised. 'What does thank you mean? Shouldn't she be apologizing?' So he thought.
"Thank you for what you have done for my family," Ellena whispered later. However, Lucas still didn't respond. He frowned even more, putting on an astonished expression.
"Come on ... Lucas, I know what you've done for my family," Ellena coaxed later. "Now, you take this!" Ellena handed Lucas the lunch box.
Lucas looked away for a moment, then looked back at Ellena with a wry expression. "You know what? You've wasted my time on this unimportant thing!" she said, pouting her lips, then reached for the lunch box with a bit of force.
A smile appeared on Ellena's face. Even though Lucas showed an expression that looked like he didn't like it, Ellena still felt happy. At least her efforts to give the lunch box were not in vain.
"Bye, Lucas ... Good job!"
Ellena's waving did not make Lucas's mood improve. In fact, the man was still acting the same way. Either she was really angry or she wanted to make Ellena feel bad for him. What is clear, Ellena's treatment last night really made him feel very humiliated.
Without saying goodbye first, Lucas immediately closed the window and pressed the gas in his car. The car seemed to have come out of the house's yard and was speeding through the streets of the surrounding residential complex, after the security guard at the house opened a two meter high gate for him.
Meanwhile, Ellena was still standing in the same place, watching Lucas' car go by which was fading away.
***
Just as Ellena landed on the sofa, suddenly there was a knock on the door. Ellena immediately got back up, then left the place.
"Fillia?" Ellena was wide-eyed when she found Fillia in front of her house as soon as the door was opened.
"Elle!" Fillia exclaimed as she rushed to hug Ellena.
Ellena seemed to return the hug. It seemed that he really missed the figure of Fillia who had always been her best friend.
"Why are you here so early? Shouldn't you be going to work?" asked Ellena in surprise after they stretched each other's arms.
"I deliberately came this early. Actually I was around cluster area, it's just that I didn't dare to visit before making sure that Lucas got out of this house," explained Filia in a bit of a hurry.
"Is there any problem?" Ellena seemed to squint probingly. He knew very well how his friend was. Filia couldn't possibly sacrifice time to work just for the sake of unimportant things.
"I missed you so much, Elle." Filia wore a wistful expression.
"Me too, Filia," replied Ellena. "Are you sure that's what you came here for?" he asked then.
Filia let out a short breath, before she finally responded to Ellena's question. "Actually, there's something else I'd like to talk about, but I'm short on time. I only have fifteen minutes to get to the office," she explained.
"Just tell me the point!" asked Ellena looking already curious.
Filia lowered her head for a moment, then she looked back at Ellena.. "It's about Keenan, Elle."
