Chapter 271 - 271 Reaching For The Roots.
271 Reaching For The Roots.
Valerian did not know that the three old people were calling him by that dreadful nickname, he just ran toward the enemy lines with two swords in his hands. The weapons were taken from the magical realm and forged by himself.
The two swords were identical and their quality was outstanding. The enemy lines were alert, and when they spotted a shadow running towards them, the scouts took out their conches and blew them hard. The entire Valkyrian army was alerted, but when they found that it was just one person rushing towards them and that too on foot, they all chuckled.
They were carefree in nature but they also had high threat perception. The society they lived in did not allow them to go easy. The scouts sensed that something was off, but when they saw the silver hair of the figure approaching them, they all picked up their weapons. The leader of the scout division yelled, “Stop there, do not come closer or you will die.”
Valerian did not care and in a few blinks he met with the scouting team. His actions were too fast for them to even follow and by the time they knew what was happening, they all had a fine slit adorning their necks. The cut was so smooth that their heads did not fall off until the people lost all the energy inside them.
The head rolled off on the ground and the people who were paying attention to them immediately sprang into action. The captain in the back said, “What are you all waiting for, go bring me his head.”
The captain was a low-grade warrior, and the soldiers in front of him acted immediately. They all picked up their spears, swords, or hatchets and they ran towards Valerian roaring loudly.
Valerian did not waver from the oncoming crowd and charged forward to clash.
…
Morgana was standing with Ashlyn and Lyon with the three old people behind them. The empress of Centaur said, “The moment he meets with this wave, let us charge. Follow the plan down right to the discussion earlier.”
.....
The other two people nodded to her, while the Magnus Magister behind them asked, “Your Excellency are you sure about charging in that mess without any support and backup?”
Ashlyn chuckled and said, “Your grace, pardon me for intruding, but that guy ahead does not need any backup or support. Please look in the sky.”
The three old men were confused and they raised their gazes to the sky. They found a carriage circling above the battlefield. The old man wanted to ask what was so special about the situation when they spotted a human figure tied to the back of the carriage.
They focused their eyes on the figure and they were shocked. Lyon noticed the change in their expressions and said, “That is what is left of the Emperor of Valkyria.”
The three people shivered, Morgana said, “I was about to lose to this guy because I tried to test his depth and exposed a few of my cards. Valerian salvaged the situation and bluffed. However, this prince of Lumen directly went in for the kill. You do know the logic behind this right?”
The three old men exchanged glances and nodded. The grandmaster said, “There is an ancient legend that the emperor of the Valkyria is the strongest of them all and can take down the entire army of the berserkers on his own. However, that ancient legend also states that if a champion can defeat the Emperor of the Valkyria, that champion can also overwhelm the region of Valkyria.”
Morgana nodded and then she said, “Let’s go.”
The three of them rushed forward at the fastest speed.
…
Valerian slashed his swords to parry the spears and reaped lives like they were crops in a field. The captain was surprised to see this, the child in front of his men was not wavering at all.
The young man had yet to use his spells or the battle aura, this entire time he had not mobilized even the slightest of his blessings. These people were too easy for him to deal with. All this was being reflected on the two pupils of the dragon queen, who was watching all this from the carriage.
She nodded at the young man below, Valerian had not used any extra moment till now and he was striking with the least effort required. She mumbled, “It seems he did not waste his time in the realm of Clar-awks.”
An ethereal voice sounded inside the carriage, “His growth is unprecedented, I guess he has taken after his mother.”
Fortuna nodded and asked, “You do not seem too fond of his father, Boo-too.”
The next moment, a small humanoid figure appeared next to her and landed on the couch as she said, “Divinus was the first mage who used his brain and understood that seven elements can be mastered by anyone who puts effort into it. However, his naivety was the reason for his demise and the tragic lives of his son and wife. I cannot admire him for his choices.”
Fortuna nodded and said, “To think that someone so magnificent that even the king of the dragons would form a contract with him would fall into a trap. I do not understand humans at all.
Look at him for instance, he is fighting and slaying people without a fluctuation on his face, but if the vengeful spirit inside him takes over and does the same thing, he will grieve over it? Is there any difference in killing people knowingly or unknowingly?”
Boo-too sighed and said, “Turns out the Queen of the dragons is still the princess on the throne. Allow me to enlighten you, oh mighty monarch, the difference between killing someone knowingly and unknowingly has something to do with the resolve to face the consequences.”
Fortuna asked, “What consequences?”
“The humans do not have the risk of a withering magical core like we magicals do, however, they have a sensitive conscience. Do you know what happens if someone does not have the resolve to face the guilt and all sort of negative emotions that comes with taking another life?”, asked Boo-too.
The dragon queen did not reply, and the bloomkin said, “The consequence is to either turn into a maniac that yearns to kill people and see blood, or to kill yourself.
Only two people can break away from the trap of these negative emotions, one, who is too naive to understand the cost of a life, or to someone with a strong intellect, who knows that what he is doing is a must. Valerian is the second type of a person, so if he does not have a reason to kill, he will not be able to handle the negativity from it.”
Fortuna nodded and said, “Thank you for your enlightenment. Still, I do not understand humans. Each one of them has a different set of thoughts and they are mostly selfish thoughts.”
Boo-too did not say anything she did not want to indulge in a discussion with this ignorant creature in front of her. She was here to watch what the young man below will do to pass this trial of acknowledgment.
This war was being waged for the survival of the balance between the different worlds. The magicals faced this sort of situation earlier and the cost was the extinction of dozens of magical species in the world. In the end, they had to seal off that region completely to contain the threat.
They never expected such a threat to take root in the western continent. They did not wish to see history repeat itself.
…
Valerian was unaware of the things going on around him, and at this moment, he was dedicated to killing each and every enemy in front of him, and he moved in a manner where he came across a lot of captains and killed them all.
He has taken out his spear and was maintaining his distance from the soldiers. The commander at the back of the lines saw this situation and said, “We are wasting lives like this, the warriors will attack this guy.”
He did not even take the three people behind Valerian into account because they were still quite a long distance away and this silver-haired man was a bigger threat.
These fools did not know that Valerian was just a decoy, the three in the back were the main weapon. Morgana and Ashlyn were leaving behind a trail of magical material as they passed the places. The valkyrians were too busy to notice that the ladies were setting up something against them.
On the other hand, Valerian was slaying warriors with ease, but now his body was covered with a tint of crimson and his efficiency had sky-rocketed.
Just when everything was going in his favor, Valerian was met with a sneak attack and a ruthless follow-up of the weapons of the berserkers, and at this moment, the young man looked at the scenery and smirked, then the entire place was filled with a flash of light and screams of the soldiers.
