Chapter 70 - Protection Bell

Upon hearing Ye Hao's words, Tang Pianpian allowed herself to relax slightly.

“Why did I tell you to stay away from this place?” Ye Hao asked coldly, eyeing the white-clad female ghost who had intruded.

Kneeling on the ground, the female ghost pleaded, “Please, save me.”

Suddenly, a tremendous force shattered the glass window. A figure then materialized in the living room.

“Today, you die,” declared a man clad in a Taoist robe, brandishing a peach wood sword with a fierce tone.

He had barely finished his threat when he swung the peach wood sword through the air.

The female ghost in white appeared to be utterly immobilized.

Just as the sword was about to strike her, a shard of glass struck the Taoist on the wrist.

Wincing in pain, the Taoist released his grip on the peach wood sword.

“Did you actually dare to stop me?”

“Not only am I stopping you today, but I'm also going to give you a thrashing,” Ye Hao declared, stepping forward to deliver two sharp slaps to the Taoist's face.

The Taoist was left in shock.

“Do you realize she's a malevolent spirit?”

“I'm aware.”

“If you know, then why do you protect her?”

“Why did you barge into my home?”

“So you slap me because I barged into your home?”

“Exactly.”

Xiao Ming was in a foul mood.

He considered Ye Hao to be quite the oddity.

Yet, Xiao Ming had to concede that Ye Hao was significantly stronger than him; otherwise, Ye Hao wouldn't have been able to slap him with such ease.

“You've already struck me. Can I destroy her now?” Xiao Ming asked, trying to regain his composure.

“No.”

“Why not?”

“Who gave you permission to do that in my room?”

“Do you intend to keep this ghost? You do understand that humans and ghosts are not the same, right?”

“I just think she's pitiable.”

“Pitiable? She'll soon transform into a wicked spirit and harm more innocent people.”

“I have no intention of harming the innocent. Once I've killed that man, I'll head straight to the Underworld.”

“You claim you won't harm the innocent?” Xiao Ming scoffed. “Are you telling me you haven't fed on human Qi in all this time?”

The female ghost in white remained silent.

Without feeding on human Qi, she couldn't possibly linger in the human realm for long.

Human Qi is intimately linked to a person's lifespan.

When the white-clothed female ghost drains someone's Human Qi a few times, that individual stands to lose years off their life.

This harms innocent people.

“Since you've drained Human Qi, you can't claim innocence.”

“I'm willing to face death, but I want you to fight for justice on my behalf.”

“Once you die, the affairs of the living are no longer your concern.”

“Master.”

“Be quiet.”

Ye Hao gave Xiao Ming an annoyed glance and asked, “Why are you making such a racket in my domain?”

Xiao Ming then realized someone else was present.

“You must have heard her admit to absorbing Human Qi,” Xiao Ming quickly said.

“I'm curious why you haven't sought revenge with the power you possess,” Ye Hao inquired.

“It's because that person is protected by a magic weapon. With my current level of cultivation, I can't even approach him.”

“Do you have any means to disable his magic weapon?” Ye Hao looked at Xiao Ming.

Xiao Ming responded, taken aback, “Are you suggesting I help her?”

“Can't you help her?”

“I can refrain from killing her, but assisting her is out of the question.”

“Are you capable of performing the Five Ghosts Carrying Technique?” Ye Hao suddenly asked.

“I am.”

“Well, if you can do that, you could steal the man's magic weapon.”

“I shouldn't,” Xiao Ming objected.

“Will you help her or not?” Ye Hao pressed, rolling up his sleeves.

“Fine,” Xiao Ming conceded.

Ye Hao smiled at Xiao Ming and clapped him on the shoulder, saying, “Let's get going.”

“Do you realize this could harm us?”

“I'm not the one doing it. It's none of my concern.”

Xiao Ming felt a surge of emotion, almost to the point of tears.

To their astonishment, the white-clothed female ghost's target resided within Blossomfall Chateau.

“Is the person in there?” Xiao Ming pointed to a nearby house.

The white-clothed female ghost nodded emphatically.

After a moment of contemplation, Xiao Ming began to recite an incantation. Soon after, a small ghost materialized before him. “Go and fetch the magic weapon from this house,” he instructed.

“You're more than you seem,” Ye Hao remarked, eyeing Xiao Ming.

“How do you know?” Xiao Ming's expression shifted noticeably.

“The Five Ghosts Carrying Technique comes in two versions. One can either use a dead person's skull to cast it or directly summon ghosts from the Underworld,” Ye Hao explained with a smile. “And only disciples of the Keepers of Forbidden Lore have the ability to summon Underworld ghosts.”

With Ye Hao being so forthright, Xiao Ming decided not to keep secrets from him. “I am a disciple of the Keepers of Forbidden Lore, Xiao Ming.”

Ye Hao's knowledge stemmed from the memories of the black-robed youth.

“Are you on a training journey from the mountain?”

“Yes.”

“Could you teach me the magic arts of the Keepers of Forbidden Lore?”

“No,” Xiao Ming replied, his face clouding over once more.

“I've heard that some of your Keepers of Forbidden Lore Taoist priests keep ghosts?”

“We selectively provide refuge to some unfortunate ghosts.”

“Do you keep one?”

“I do.”

“Let me see it.”

“No.”

Ye Hao scrutinized Xiao Ming from head to toe, his eyes quickly settling on a piece of wood at Xiao Ming's waist.

“Solacewood,” Ye Hao remarked, somewhat astonished. “You've really gone to great lengths to care for this ghost.”

?Solacewood was exceedingly rare. Even in the black-robed youth's recollections, it was seldom seen.

“I have a responsibility to this ghost,” Xiao Ming stated firmly.

“A female ghost?”

“Yes.”

Ye Hao burst into laughter.

“What's so funny?” Xiao Ming demanded, irritated.

Just then, a ghost servant from the Underworld handed a bell to Xiao Ming. He examined it closely and noted, “This bell is engraved with the Vajra Scripture.”

?”Would the Vajra Scripture retain its potency without being on the bell?”

“What's crucial is that the scripture also contains a drop of a high monk's Tongue Blood.”

The Sunlit Force within the Tongue Blood was incredibly potent. This was precisely why Taoists feared talismans infused with Tongue Blood—their power was exponentially greater.

“This bell is quite remarkable. Hand it over,” Ye Hao said as he took the bell from Xiao Ming's grasp.

This bell is said to have the power to repel evil spirits when placed in the home!

Ye Hao, however, wasn't convinced that the bell had the ability to cure the Nightmare Incarnate.

“Now you can seek your revenge,” Ye Hao told her.

“Thank you.” The white-clothed female ghost expressed her gratitude to Ye Hao before drifting into the man's room. It wasn't long before the room echoed with a chilling scream.

Roughly three minutes later, a police car pulled up nearby. Immediately, three armed detectives stormed into the room.

“The police have arrived,” Ye Hao stated solemnly.

“Should we make a getaway?” Xiao Ming inquired.

“Obviously,” Ye Hao replied tersely.
