Chapter 67
Chapter 67 - Encountered an Attack
“This is the premium line from Nongfu Spring, Moya Spring,” May chimed in at just the right moment, “But I still prefer Evian from France.”
Ye Hao had never heard of either Moya Spring or Evian.
Yet, he had to admit, Moya Spring had a really good taste, far surpassing the mineral water sold for one and a half yuan a bottle in the market.
It was only when the convoy pulled up at the department store that Ye Hao realized Lin Rou'er had planned to buy him clothes in advance.
He didn't object.
He was about to accompany Lin Rou'er to an upscale event, and showing up in shabby attire would certainly draw ridicule.
“Miss, isn't this risky?” Typically, Xiaolan alone would suffice as Lin Rou'er's companion. But with Lin Rou'er currently under the watchful eye of the Yama organization, the absence of several bodyguards could spell trouble.
“My brother is with me,” Lin Rou'er said with a smile.
Ye Hao gave a slight nod.
With his increasing level of skill, he was growing more confident by the day.
“Okay then.” With Lin Rou'er's reassurance, Xiaolan held her peace.
Mainly, Xiaolan was reassured because she knew Ye Hao was an eight-star expert, capable of ensuring Lin Rou'er's safety.
Lin Rou'er was the kind of woman who was a natural beauty, turning heads wherever she went.
Her entrance at the department store set off a flurry of excitement, leaving men speechless in her wake.
“She's stunning.”
“She looks even more beautiful than a movie star.”
“Now I understand what they mean by a goddess of grace.”
“I'm completely enchanted by her.”
As Lin Rou'er and Ye Hao made their way toward the men's section, a young man dressed in Armani stepped forward to block their path.
“Let me introduce myself—”
“Move aside,” Xiaolan cut him off.
The young man's face soured. “Is it your place to speak?” He immediately pegged Xiaolan as a subordinate.
“Scram,” Xiaolan commanded firmly.
“I plan to stand right here today. I'd like to see how you'll make me move,” the young man retorted with a cold stare.
Xiaolan's brow furrowed.
She really didn't want to resort to violence in such a public setting unless absolutely necessary.
As she pondered, Ye Hao stepped forward from the crowd and delivered a resounding slap to the young man's face. With a look of shock on his face, the young man felt Ye Hao's grip on his hair as he was violently hurled toward a nearby counter.
Bystanders quickly scattered.
This man was excessively domineering.
Even if the young man had declared his love for the girl in Ye Hao's presence, it didn't justify a death sentence.
Xiaolan was about to intervene when Lin Rou'er held her back.
Lin Rou'er spoke with a grave tone, “Watch our surroundings.”
Xiaolan was startled.
Why would Ye Hao assault the young man without provocation?
There could be only one explanation.
The young man was a hitman.
But how had Ye Hao discerned this?
As Ye Hao was about to smash the young man's head against the counter once more, a formidable force erupted from within the young man.
It was a force that resonated like clashing metal.
Yet, to the young man's astonishment, Ye Hao's grip remained unyielding, and he smashed his head against the counter again.
“You.” Wu Jun was dumbfounded.
He was an esteemed eight-star assassin!
How could this man overpower him so effortlessly?
Wu Jun summoned his internal energy to break free from Ye Hao's grasp and retreated rapidly.
Wu Jun was fast, but Ye Hao was faster.
Before Wu Jun could even touch the ground, Ye Hao had already seized his shoulder blade.
“Who are you?” Wu Jun asked, his face etched with shock.
“You call yourself an assassin with that level of skill?” Ye Hao said with scorn.
Wu Jun felt a surge of despair; he was the third-ranked member of Yama!
“What do we do now?” Ye Hao turned to Xiaolan and inquired, “Should we kill him or leave him crippled?”
“Kill him,” Xiaolan responded decisively.
As Ye Hao readied his attack, a vicious look crossed Wu Jun's face, and a trickle of black blood seeped from the corner of his mouth.
“A poison pill,” Xiaolan noted, her expression turning grave.
“You're all so merciless,” Ye Hao remarked as he dropped Wu Jun to the ground.
“I'll take care of this. Ye Hao, you go shop for clothes with the lady,” Xiaolan said after a brief pause.
Ye Hao nodded in agreement.
It was clear that a skilled individual like Xiaolan had intricate connections with law enforcement.
Ye Hao gazed at Lin Rou'er, noticing her expression barely changed, and he sighed inwardly.
What had this girl been through? She managed to stay calm even in the face of an assassination attempt.
Lin Rou'er patiently helped Ye Hao select four pieces of clothing, including a shirt, a tie, and socks.
Once Ye Hao donned the new outfit, he instantly felt quite dashing.
“Truly, exquisite attire can elevate one's presence,” May commented, looking at Ye Hao.
Ye Hao couldn't help but smile broadly.
He felt the same way.
Lin Rou'er shot May a disapproving look. “Nonsense,” she retorted.
May playfully stuck out her tongue.
“When are we heading to the charity auction?”
“We're leaving now,” Lin Rou'er replied softly.
“But it's only six in the evening,” Ye Hao remarked, checking his watch.
“Do you really think we can navigate Glento's traffic with ease?” Lin Rou'er asked with a knowing smile.
In Ubliasia's largest city, Glento's traffic was notoriously dreadful.
Lin Rou'er's motorcade pulled up to the Mandala at 7:50 PM.
Ye Hao was impressed by Lin Rou'er's poise.
Her arrival at the clubhouse caused quite a stir.
Even the scions of noble families were visibly astonished.
“Is that Lin Rou'er?”
“I'd always heard Lin Rou'er was Glento's gem, but I was skeptical until now. Today, I see they were right.”
“She's absolutely stunning.”
The aristocratic heirs soon took notice of Ye Hao standing next to Lin Rou'er.
“Who is that guy?”
“He looks so plain. How does he deserve to be by my goddess's side?”
Ye Hao's expression darkened at their words.
“Miss Lin, I've been waiting for you for quite some time,” a young man in a crisp suit approached them.
Ye Hao couldn't deny that the newcomer was more handsome than himself.
The young man's face bore a gentle smile, and his eyes, like twinkling stars, shone with a soft light as he looked at Lin Rou'er and reached out his hand.
He was Zhou Wenyu from the Zhou family.
“Wenyu,” Lin Rou'er greeted him. She was well aware of his malice towards her, yet her face maintained a perfectly measured smile. She then gracefully extended her delicate hand.
