Chapter 62
Chapter 62 - Ghost House
“This house looks good,” Tang Pianpian said after browsing on the Go-to-market Website for a while and stumbling upon a beautifully finished home.
“Two bedrooms, a living room, moderately decorated, with all appliances included,” Tang Pianpian pointed out, showing the pictures to Ye Hao. “What's even better is that it's only 4,100 yuan a month.”
“That seems unusually cheap,” Ye Hao remarked, surprised.
Typically, a house with similar features would go for around 6,000 yuan!
“I'll get in touch with the landlord,” Tang Pianpian said as she dialed the number listed. Within seconds, a middle-aged voice answered.
“Landlord, I found your listing on the Go-to-market Website.”
“When are you available? We'd like to come over and see the house.”
“I'm free anytime. You can come over right now.”
“Okay, we'll be there in about an hour. Does that work for you?”
“That's fine.”
After ending the call, Tang Pianpian turned to Ye Hao with a smile. “I've made contact. We'll head over soon to check it out.”
?The landlord was a middle-aged man with a seemingly trustworthy appearance. But as soon as he opened the door, Ye Hao instantly realized why the rent was so low.
A woman in white was swinging from a beam.
Tang Pianpian, on the other hand, didn't notice anything amiss. She was curiously inspecting the room's setup.
?”Boss, you're not being entirely honest,” Ye Hao said with a teasing grin.
“What do you mean?”
“Has this place had a death?”
“Is that common knowledge now?”
Driven by his own greed, Wei Jianhua had purchased the house. On the very first night, he experienced some eerie occurrences, but he didn't believe in ghosts. The following day, he invited two friends to stay over, yet all three of them had unsettling experiences that night. Despite what he told them, his friends refused to stay any longer.
Wei Jianhua then tried to sell the property.
Three months went by with no buyers. Buying a house is, after all, a significant commitment.
?Wei Jianhua decided to rent it out instead. But after two couples moved in and quickly moved out, no one else dared to rent the place. Since he hadn't returned their deposits, one of the tenants started rumors that the house was haunted.
The story spread like wildfire.
Hearing Wei Jianhua's account, Ye Hao finally understood the situation.
“I'll be staying here for a while, and by then, the rumors will have dissipated,” Ye Hao said to Wei Jianhua with a smile. “But perhaps the rent could be a bit lower?”
“You're not worried that this place is haunted?” Wei Jianhua asked after a moment's thought.
Ye Hao chuckled and clapped Wei Jianhua on the shoulder. “Once I've moved out, you'll be able to rent this place out normally.”
“Are you certain?”
“If you're skeptical, we can sign the contract right now,” Ye Hao offered with a chuckle.
“Let's sign a one-year lease then.”
“Who said anything about a year? I'm looking to sign for three months,” Ye Hao clarified, unsure of how long he would stay.
“I'll amend the contract,” Wei Jianhua said, pulling the document from his briefcase. “A two-thousand deposit, twelve thousand for three months' rent. Just give me fourteen thousand in total.”
“Who told you the rent was still four thousand?” Ye Hao gave Wei Jianhua a pointed look. “After the favor I've done for you, I think you owe me one.”
“What about three thousand five hundred?” Wei Jianhua proposed tentatively.
“Three thousand.”
“Fine,” Wei Jianhua conceded. “But once we've signed, there are no refunds.”
“Let me take a look at that agreement.” Ye Hao reviewed the contract and nodded in approval.
Just then, Tang Pianpian approached. “Everything good?”
Ye Hao promptly signed his name.
“Send me your bank details, and I'll transfer the funds.”
As soon as Wei Jianhua received the notification, he exclaimed with delight, “Here are three keys; they're all yours.”
“I can move in anytime?”
“Absolutely.”
Wei Jianhua gave Ye Hao a knowing look. “I'll leave you two alone. Sir, your girlfriend is quite stunning.”
Tang Pianpian blushed instantly. She was about to clarify, but Wei Jianhua had already turned to leave.
Ye Hao glanced at the ghost still hanging from the beam and headed for the master bedroom.
?After a quick inspection, he nodded to himself in satisfaction. The decor wasn't extravagant, but it was fully furnished.
“When are you moving in?”
“Tomorrow.”
“Got a lot of stuff? Need any help?”
“I wouldn't want to impose,” he replied.
Noticing Tang Pianpian's feigned annoyance, Ye Hao grinned and added, “My belongings aren't many.”
Ye Hao glanced at his phone and noticed it was already 9:30 PM.
“Let's head back to school.”
Upon returning to his dormitory, Ye Hao faced a barrage of questions from Yuan Gaoxing and the others.
He responded with vague answers before diving into the Encyclopedia of Herbs to read.
At 3 AM, Ye Hao's phone abruptly rang.
“Ye Hao.”
“What's the matter?”
On the other end, Tang Pianpian's voice trembled, “I had another nightmare.”
“You might just need to hang in there for another half month,” Ye Hao suggested after a moment's thought.
“Are you saying I can't sleep for half a month?” Tang Pianpian asked, her voice tinged with bitterness as she ran her fingers through her tousled hair.
After a pause, Tang Pianpian declared, “I'm moving to Blossomfall Chateau tomorrow.”
“Is that really okay?” Ye Hao was indifferent.
“That's settled then,” Tang Pianpian whispered. “I'll get up and read for a bit, or else I'll just get sleepy again.”
After hanging up, Ye Hao found himself restless and unable to sleep.
He couldn't overlook Tang Pianpian's allure.
After some thought, he got out of bed to study his textbooks.
Not wanting to waste time since sleep eluded him, he decided to make use of the night.
He had to read his textbooks eventually, anyway.
Even if he were to ascend to immortality in the future, he was determined to graduate.
This was, after all, a phase of life he was meant to go through.
But there was still one thing he needed to do.
Dressed and ready, Ye Hao arrived at Blossomfall Chateau around 5 AM.
Upon entering, he noticed the white-clad female ghost was no longer on the beam.
Closing the door behind him, he intended to turn on the light, as the pre-dawn light provided little visibility.
?Instead of the light switch, his hand found a soft, slippery one—ice-cold to the touch.
?Turning, Ye Hao saw a figure fixedly staring at him, eyes bulging, tongue hanging long, her face caked with a ghostly white powder.?
