Chapter 50
Chapter 50 - Early Morning Jog
Xiao Laoshi had been on a losing streak for quite some time.
When Ye Hao witnessed the scene, he immediately understood the situation.
At this point, any attempt to persuade Xiao Laoshi would be futile, and he would likely lash out at anyone who tried.
“Laoshi, how about we play for just one more hour?” Yuan Gaoxing suggested, glancing at his watch.
“I'm really tired,” Zheng Xiaolong chimed in.
“Alright,” Xiao Laoshi agreed with a nod.
During that hour, Xiao Laoshi's luck turned around. Ultimately, he managed to win back two hundred yuan.
“We'll play again tomorrow,” Zheng Xiaolong said with a grin, tucking the two hundred yuan into his wallet.
Xiao Laoshi yawned and then noticed Ye Hao was still engrossed in his book. An apologetic look crossed Xiao Laoshi's face as he asked, “Ye Hao, we haven't been disturbing you, have we?”
“Not at all,” Ye Hao replied with a smile, shaking his head.
The noise from their card game had been quite loud, so it was unlikely that Ye Hao hadn't been affected.
Ye Hao resolved to rent an apartment the next day.
Instead of turning off the light right away, Ye Hao continued to pore over the Encyclopedia of Herbs.
At this rate, he figured it would take only three days to fully grasp the contents of the book.
Half an hour later, Ye Hao could hear Xiao Laoshi's snoring. Before long, he also heard Zheng Xiaolong grinding his teeth. Just when Ye Hao thought Yuan Gaoxing was the only one who seemed normal, he overheard Yuan Gaoxing sleep-talking.
None of them were normal.
After another half-hour of reading, Ye Hao finally turned off the lamp and went to sleep.
At five-thirty in the morning, Ye Hao got up to brush his teeth and wash his face. He then changed into his sportswear and headed to the sports field.
The early morning boasted the most potent spiritual energy. Despite the city's spiritual energy being murky, Ye Hao's spirit root was of the highest caliber. Therefore, even in the city's polluted atmosphere, he could still draw in some spiritual energy.
As Ye Hao jogged along the tree-lined path, he silently practiced the Primeval Dragon Technique.
During his run, he unexpectedly came across Zhang Lan.
Ye Hao remembered that she had mentioned her fondness for running when she introduced herself.
Sensing someone behind her, Zhang Lan turned to look. Upon seeing Ye Hao, she expressed her surprise, “Ye Hao?”
“Why are you up so early?” Ye Hao quickened his pace to catch up with Zhang Lan.
“It's not early anymore!” Zhang Lan replied with a smile. “I didn't expect you to be a fan of morning runs too.”
“The air is so fresh in the morning.”
“Let's run together then.”
“Sounds good.”
After about fifteen minutes, Zhang Lan started to struggle.
“Ye Hao, can we take a break?”
Ye Hao glanced ahead and responded, “You rest here; I'll just run a lap and be right back.”
With that, Ye Hao took off running.
Zhang Lan couldn't believe how inconsiderate he was.
Being in a strange place, Zhang Lan felt a natural closeness to Ye Hao, who also hailed from Weyphia.
Moreover, she had been keeping tabs on Ye Hao for some time.
Had it not been for his lack of Moplauso skills, he could have easily been the champion.
The more Zhang Lan learned about Ye Hao, the more intrigued she became. She hadn't anticipated that they would end up as classmates, which only added to her sense of kinship.
Yet, his indifference toward her was unexpected.
Could she be unattractive?
That seemed unlikely.
A short while later, Ye Hao returned to Zhang Lan's side and asked, “Feeling any better?”
Seeing Ye Hao's even breathing, as if he hadn't been running at all, Zhang Lan was visibly astonished but remained silent.
When Zhang Lan found herself struggling once again, she was amazed to see that Ye Hao was still breathing effortlessly.
His physical condition must be extraordinary.
Zhang Lan was convinced that even the school's athletes couldn't match Ye Hao's fitness.
“What are your plans now?” inquired Zhang Lan.
“I'm heading back to the dorm,” Ye Hao answered.
“I need to swing by the cafeteria to grab some meat buns for Bai Hehua,” Zhang Lan said, looking at Ye Hao. “Want to join me?”
“Sure, let's go together,” Ye Hao agreed with a nod.
At this hour, the cafeteria was sparsely populated as most students were still asleep.
Nonetheless, Zhang Lan's presence didn't go unnoticed by the few students there.
“This girl is stunning.”
“Why does she seem so unfamiliar to me?”
“She's probably a freshman.”
“Oh, so she's an underclassman.”
While Zhang Lan and Ye Hao were in line, a tall and handsome student approached them.
He tapped Ye Hao on the shoulder and said, “Excuse me, could you move aside?”
Ye Hao gave him a quick look and questioned, “And you are?”
Zhong Sifang didn't expect such a response from Ye Hao. His face chilled instantly. “Didn't you hear me?”
“And who might you be?” Ye Hao retorted with an eye roll.
Ye Hao's retort drew the attention of the nearby students.
Enraged, Zhong Sifang stepped forward and grabbed Ye Hao by the collar. Standing well over six feet tall, he was an imposing figure.
Zhang Lan turned and caught sight of the altercation. She hurried over and demanded, “What are you trying to do?”
“I'm just having a little chat about life with this young man,” Zhong Sifang replied, offering Zhang Lan a mild smile.
Ye Hao responded with a slap across Zhong Sifang's face.
Zhong Sifang stood there, dumbfounded.
Straightening his collar, Ye Hao said icily, “This shirt cost over a hundred yuan. Can you afford to pay for it?”
Following the slap, three students quickly encircled Ye Hao.
Zhang Lan stepped in to shield Ye Hao and confronted them, “What are you planning to do?”
Ye Hao pushed Zhang Lan aside and faced the three students without fear. “Are you coming at me all at once or one at a time?”
“Kid, you've got quite an attitude,” one student remarked as he cracked his knuckles.
“I've always been bold. What are you going to do, bite me?” Truth be told, Ye Hao wasn't intimidated by these students at all.
Before Ye Hao began his cultivation journey, he could take on dozens of thugs with ease. Now, even a Martial Arts Master would only end up on the receiving end of his blows.
“You dare to hit me?” Zhong Sifang finally snapped out of his daze. He glared at Ye Hao, his voice dark and menacing.
“I've already given you a slap,” Ye Hao replied nonchalantly.
“You…” Zhong Sifang pointed at Ye Hao, his finger trembling with rage.
“What's the matter?” Ye Hao challenged, forcefully bending Zhong Sifang's finger downward.
Zhong Sifang's frame suddenly shrank as he cried out, “Ouch, my finger feels like it's going to snap off!”
Upon witnessing this, how could Zhong Sifang's three classmates stand by idly?
One student aimed a punch at Ye Hao's face, while another directed a kick at Ye Hao's waist.
Ye Hao caught the student's fist and, with a swift motion, slammed his foot into the student's leg.
The sheer force sent the second student stumbling backward, and when the impact subsided, he found himself sitting on the ground.
The student's fist was swollen, and Ye Hao could tell that the bones were likely damaged.
All of this unfolded in the blink of an eye. Seeing this, the third student no longer dared to attack.
“I have two things to tell you. First, cutting in line is disgraceful. Second, if you insist on cutting, at least do so with some courtesy,” Ye Hao said, before sending Zhong Sifang flying with a kick.
