Chapter 40 Real Life (2)
The boss began to fall, and then the group started to prepare and bombard the creature. After getting hit by so many critical hits several times in a row, it was only natural that the beast would get stunned.
Even without stealing the mana from the target, Louise managed to concentrate a lot of energy in a single Poison Bullet and then hit the monster's face yet again. When the creature almost touched the ground, Jake hit it with his katana and scabbard by activating Bash, and at the last moment, he also Mana Blade. The sheer power of the attack made the boss fly toward the opposite direction and only stopped when it hit the wall behind. The wall cracked, and the monster spat blood before falling to its knees. However, the battle wasn't over yet.
Giant Bat King Lv 65
Health: 3866/7250
Mana: 6910/8900
Stamina: 4950/6100
"What a beast… all this damage and only lost half of its health," Jake furrowed his eyebrows.
Before the group could prepare another attack, the boss quickly got up. In fact, when Louise fired a Poison Bullet, the monster was fine enough to react on time and reflect the projectile with Wind Blade. As expected, unless Jake draws its attention, Louise won't hit the boss that easily.
Instead of flying away to recover, the monster flew toward Jake, and while he blocked the attack, he was pushed backward for several meters. For some unknown reason, the strength of the creature had grown to the point where Jake lost ten percent of his health, even though he blocked the attack completely.
Louise tried to counterattack while Lana healed Jake, but the monster also got faster. When she fired a Poison Bullet, the beast moved to the left side in the air, and its movements could barely be seen… Jake had expected that some boss fights would get harder later on, but even that surpassed his wildest dreams.
Jake clenched his teeth and then charged at the boss. When he swung his sword, the monster had the nerve to block it using its feet. Jake even saw the monster grinning… So, he used Mana Blade, but the attack barely opened a small wound on the beast. Even its endurance had increased… If Jake didn't have a skill that increased his health, mana, and stamina drastically, he would call that a cheat.
While the monster was busy with Jake, Louise used a Poison Bullet. The beast looked at her and then let Jake's sword go and flew toward her. However, before the creature could do it, Jake jumped on its back and then pressed his katana against the creature's neck.
"I think not, you freak," Jake smiled viciously.
Jake had no idea until now that players had that much liberty, but it wasn't so bad… The monster began to lose health quite fast, and it couldn't free itself from Jake's grasp. In the end, the monster decided to fly and then made Jake collide against the ceiling. That caused quite a lot of damage, but Jake resisted, not to mention Lana never stopped healing him. Fortunately, the monster didn't leave the range of her healing...
After trying the same thing several times and failing miserably. The monster did the inverse. He fell and made Jake hit his back against the ground. This time, the damage had been enough to make Jake dizzy and lose half of his health. Lana tried to heal him, but the monster was about to repeat the same attack. In the end, Louise was the one who saved Jake. She suddenly fired an extra-large Ice Arrow and hit the left wing of the monster. She just realized that she could also steal the mana from the boss since he was constantly using mana to fly.
The Ice Arrow froze half of the monster's wing, but it was quickly recovering itself. Jake used that to move his sword toward the wing, and then he used Mana Blade. The energy beam didn't crack the wing, but Jake saw a good part of the cut. One of those parts was where the arm of the monster was. His attack just cut the ligament between the monster's forearm and elbow. The beast grunted in agony, and Jake used that change to strengthen his grip over the monster's neck. In the end, the monster landed on the ground, unable to fly since one wing was too damaged and the other was busy preventing Jake from cutting its neck. However, the real reason was the fact that Louise was stealing the monster's mana.
Without its mobility and with Jake literally on its back, the monster became an easy target, so Louise began to bombard the creature with Poison Bullets. The poison and the fact that the beast was bleeding from its neck made the creature lose health at fearsome speed. However, the beast also gained extra power. Little by little, the boss was making the katana move away from its neck.
"You have got to be kidding me…" Jake muttered.
Jake had an idea, but before he could say it, Louise fired several Ice Arrows on the other wing of the monster. As the wing got frozen, the beast lost its strength.
Congratulations! The skill Hyper Body has leveled up.
Jake got lucky. With that extra mana, he used Mana Blade against the neck of the monster and this time, he caused enough damage to make the beast fall to the ground once its health dropped to zero.
Jake let go of the body and then sighed in relief. That fight had been more intense, but instead of tired, Jake felt accomplished as expected.
