Tribulation of Mysteries

Chapter 37:

Chapter 37:

Blackstone Manor.

Aaron woke up with a faint smile.

He had watched Olivia go from wavering to determined. He also planned to help Lin develop the Light of Salvation.

Furthermore, she had held a thanksgiving ceremony for him upon his return to the Headquarters, offering him some of the spirituality of the Chrysalis.

“The chrysalis is life and change… At the same time it has an unchanging quality.”

Aaron looked at his skin. With a thought, he felt that every hair on his skin had become incomparably sensitive. He could even detect the slightest movement in the air and use it to determine the movement of various objects within a certain range.

“Apart from that, I should be able to use the characteristics of the chrysalis to harden my skin within a certain time to gain defensive power.”

“Of course, I still won’t be able to defend myself against bullets at close range. However, Olivia didn’t die after being hit so many times at close range. She was only badly injured, which is enough to prove that her defence isn’t bad!”

He looked down at his palm and realised that there were silk threads between his fingers.

Aaron growled. He raised his hand and a silk thread shot out. It stuck to the clothes on the hanger and he pulled on it with force.

“Snap!”

The thread broke.

“After all, according to the dream world, I’m just a mortal who has just begun to awaken my spirituality. I still have a long way to go if I want to be like Olivia and cut monsters with threads.”

A bitter smile appeared at the corner of Aaron’s mouth. “Besides the spirituality of the Chrysalis is constantly dissipating. I even suspect that even if I use a ritual to ascend in reality and find my path, I will still be struck down.”

“This world is really depressing.”

After a sigh, he soon regained his composure. He summoned his maid, Daly, to help him dress, and then asked about the day’s schedule over breakfast.

Basically, as a nobleman of this era, his daily life was very boring. He had nothing to do all day but hang around at hunts and banquets.

Occasionally, he would patrol his territory as a lord or play the role of a judge, dealing with the disputes of his subjects.

Compared to other lords, Aaron should be considered as one of the more diligent ones.

At that moment, Albert, the fat scholar in a grey scholar’s robe, said, “Lord Aaron, you have a visitor today. It’s Knight Iman from the Emerald Territory.”

He was Aaron’s neighbour and was originally loyal to the Davis family. He later surrendered early in the War and was able to keep his land.

“Is it the season for visiting friends?”

Aaron muttered.

“Actually, it should have started a long time ago, but because of the various consequences of the war, especially the various small disturbances in the Upper Green Forest, it has been delayed until now.”

Albert replied quietly.

“A bunch of scum. They’ve already lost the war. What else do they want?”

Aaron sneered. These opponents included the remnants of the Davis family and the nobles who had lost their lands.

Unwilling to accept their defeat in the war, they hid deep in the mountains and forests and became actual bandits.

Of course, this was a matter security.

Apart from a few direct territories, the Sotos family left the rest to the lords of the various districts.

“What is the reputation of Knight Iman?”

Aaron thought for a moment before asking.

These capitulators and rebels were originally on good terms. They were close by blood, perhaps even by family.

It was hard to guarantee that there wouldn’t be cases of cover-up.

In their eyes, there was no need to ask what attitude they would have towards Aaron, A member of the Sotos family, the culprit of their failure in the war and the occupier of their territory.

“Knight Iman is a benevolent lord. At the same time, he possesses great strength and is good at teaching students. His pupil, Mokto, did well in the last tournament,” said Albert.

Scholar Albert said, “And he’s actively expressing his goodwill towards us.

“So you think he’s a firm supporter?”

Aaron’s expression was playful.

“Yes. After all, anyone with experience can see that the Green Forest now belongs to the Sotos family. As long as they know how to choose their interests, they won’t go against this trend. In other words, those who go against this trend will be mercilessly crushed to death,” Albert said.

“Then I look forward to today’s meeting.”

Aaron closed his eyes. He could feel Albert’s steady breathing and heartbeat. It was clear that he was speaking from his heart.

‘Is this also part of the Chrysalis ability? I take back my earlier judgement. Olivia is an even more stupid woman than Lin. With this ability, how could she be tricked by a group of ordinary people? Was she too trusting of others? Or was her spirituality so weak after the ceremony that she couldn’t sense these things? ‘

…..

At that time, not far from Blackstone Manor, a convoy was slowly moving forward. The knights raised their heads and waved their banners. On the flag was the image of a double-horned axe, but the original blue background had been replaced by dark green. It represented a change.

In the convoy, a carriage suddenly opened its curtains and the face of a beautiful girl appeared. “How long until we arrive?”

“Dear Miss Monica, please bear with us for the time being. We’ll be there before the sun rises to the middle of the sky.”

A knight urged his horse forward, quietly answering the girl’s question. He watched as the curtain was closed and the pretty face disappeared. The expression on his face remained unchanged, but he secretly tightened his grip on the reins.

“Blackstone Manor is straight ahead. Stop and rest. Let someone go forward to report!”

Knight Iman was a middle-aged man in his forties. Half of his hair was white, but he was in good spirits. He waved his hand and ordered the convoy to stop.

The group stopped to rest. Some fed the horses, others drank water.

The young knight from before went to the river to fetch some water. He looked around and turned into a bush.

In the shadows, another man dressed like a farmer was waiting for him. But his skin was very smooth and pale.

“See through everything!”

The knight spoke first.

“See through everything! Mokto, I am very happy to meet you. We’ve always seen your loyalty to the Davis family. ”

The man smiled. His tone still had the arrogance of a noble.

“How is the plan going?”

“It’s not going well. Although Knight Iman sympathises with the Davis family, he doesn’t seem to want to start another war. He’s already decided to give the Sotos family his full support. This time he went to Blackstone Manor with the intention of making a match for Miss Monica.”

A hint of pain appeared in Mokto’s eyes.

“That damned old dog,” the man cursed. “And that damned Aaron Sotos!”

He thought of his earlier attempt to incite the people of Blackstone Manor to rebel and overthrow the rule of the ‘outsiders’. He had failed miserably.

Last winter was the best opportunity, but Aaron borrowed food directly. Then those ignorant people left with him. It was like throwing their loyalty in the mud!

Then this year, with a large harvest and reduced taxes, these people refused to change. As expected, they were a bunch of mudbloods. Let them rot in the mud forever!
