Chapter 488 488: Peer At The Abyss I
Cole took a shuddering breath as the pain began to fade, moving to the back of his mind like it was some sort of memory. He was covered in sweat and had been bleeding from his eyes. The experience with this technique was a lot different than anything he had ever come across or experienced.
[Chaos Lord Technique: : to peer into the river of time and observe the going on of reality is akin to being swept away by a fierce tsunami. This technique is a life raft/boat and ship to help navigate those troubled waters, giving clarity to your visions and a limited amount of control. You can divine the Future for 5 seconds ahead, the present can be observed for 10 seconds, and you can only peer into the past for 10 seconds only.]
This technique was going to be what he would use to deal with Azrael….if he could see the future before Azrael's attacks, then he would be able to come with a plan. Or rather he didn't need to see the future, he just needs to look at the present and past and see what Azrael has been up to. As long as Cole could find out everything the young man has done or is doing, then he would be able to come up with a plan to deal with him.
But it was crazy how this technique had no combat applications but could determine the outcome of any battle. Cole realized that it was not all about having attack skills, being powerful went beyond just being capable of hitting the hardest, reality was more than just physical conflicts.
[Divining Devil's Eye]
Cole focused on just finding out about Azrael. It was Sun Tsu who had said that to know your enemy is to know yourself. Cole had his eyes opened wide as they glowed awash with light. His pupils had also changed, they were two, with a smaller red one superimposed over a larger golden one that circled around it, with the rest of the eyeball being pitch black.
The pupils spun, it was weirdly hypnotic, but also similar to a clock or gears. As they spun images flew across Cole's mind in an instant, voices raging and banging in his ears, as he suddenly found himself in a dark room.
There was a spotlight over a child, and that was the only source of light in the room. The child had his hair falling to the sides with his legs spread open, leaving his genitals exposed. For a moment Cole startled as he realized that the Boy seemed to be looking at him, enticing blue eyes peering at him through the tangle of dark hair.
"Perhaps if you glare at me a little harder, I might actually just drop dead like you want." A man's voice said as someone literally walked through Cole to come stand in front of the child. Cole rubbed his hands all over his body, the feeling had been extremely uncomfortable. Not painful, but freakishly weird.
"Oh Azrael, our avenging angel….don't worry, by the time we're done with you, made you strong enough to fulfill your destiny! You will be more than happy to look at me with eyes of gratitude. Now turn around, I need to remind you the folly of disrespecting a holy being like myself."
Cole watched as the much younger looking Azrael, probably twelve or thirteen turned around and left his back exposed to the man who had been talking. Cole could not help just gasp at what he saw. Skin peeled off and cuts deep enough to show bone. He looked like he had been tortured, and while Cole could torture with the best of them, this….on a twelve year old kid….. that's a whole other new level of monster. He'd much rather have just killed the kid and he done with it and put the poor kid out of his misery, he should have put the damn kid out of his misery, because then he wouldn't be here causing so much misery to Cole!
Everything seemed relatively normal, until the man popped out a single black wing from his back. It was close to two meters long and the feathers gleamed like blades under the moonlight. Was this guy some sort of angel?
Questions upon questions. But then again it had already been said that races from the other universe has been seeding and preparing agents of their own on earth for decades if not centuries before the system began it's incursion, or it might have started the incursion already and people were just finally starting to realize now.
Cole watched as the man slashed with their wing, using different angles to either slice, stab, scratch or peel the skin off Young Azrael's back. And through it all, the man kept telling and screaming at the young boy, who did nothing more than stare ahead at the darkness, his eyes dead to the world of pain….or emotions.
"Why Won't You Cry! Why Won't You Cry? CRY I SAY! CRYYYYYY!"
Azrael didn't cry, he just turned to Cole and said. "You should not be taking a peek into past….how are you even doing this?" Cole raised an eyebrow only to notice that the entire scene had frozen.
"You have the power of order too? Still your presence here makes no sense. Perhaps this has something to do with that high perception of yours, you must be looking for an insight into who I am, if you can figure that out then perhaps you can figure out a way to stop me. You're smarter than they give credit for Cole Night, you shou-"
The vision cut off abruptly as the mother of all headaches smashed into Cole's head. He heard a string of notifications in the background, but he ignored, all to focused on the intense pain he was feeling.
His body shook again as sweat covered him. Using this technique required a lot of energy, so much so that his short time in the past had not only drained him of energy, but also his vitality and his body regeneration rate could not keep up with it. This wasn't east, however the next time he tried it, he had to make sure he got everything right, he needed to focus on the right past to get the right information, cause it seems just as he was studying his opponent in order to find a way to defeat him.
His opponent too, was studying him.
