Chapter 250: Falling
Chapter 250
"I don't have any plans at the moment, I'm still studying," said Chu Yang.
Chu's Mom thought about it and realized her daughter was still pursuing that postgraduate degree or whatever it was.
"If you get pregnant, I'll come take care of you."
Chu Yang shook her head, "No need, Chi Yan will hire a nanny. You and Dad should just stay home and relax, or go travel to Jing City when you have time. You don't need to look after me."
Chu's Mom didn't say anything for a moment, then added, "You should still plan for children. You're young, so you'll recover quickly after giving birth." Her main concern was that her daughter had married into such a powerful family, which worried her. Although Chi Yan and his parents were good people, once conflicts arose in daily life, her child didn't seem to have many other advantages.
"I know, I know. We'll plan for it. Mom, I need to sleep now."
"Alright, you sleep. I'll head back."
"Mm."
After Chu's Mom left, Chu Yang sighed, pitying the hearts of parents everywhere.
When Chu Yang and Chi Yan were about to leave, Chu's Dad and Chu's Mom prepared a pile of things to fill the back of the car. "If there's anything you want to eat, just call home and we'll send it to you."
"Okay. Got it. Take good care of yourselves."
...
In the middle of the night, Chu Yang and Chi Yan were sound asleep in their room when suddenly the phone rang.
Chi Yan reached out a hand, feeling for the phone on the nightstand, his voice heavy with sleep, "Hello?"
"Young Master Yan, the old master has fallen and is being taken to the hospital now."
Chi Yan was instantly awake. "I'll be right there."
He hung up and immediately shook Chu Yang awake. "Yang Yang, darling, Grandfather has fallen."
Chu Yang sat up at once, throwing off the covers. "Let's go right away."
"Mm."
Still in their pajamas, they just threw on coats and drove to the hospital.
They arrived quickly to find Chi Xin and the Butler standing outside the emergency room. Chi Yan and Chu Yang rushed over. "How is he? How's Grandfather?"
Chi Xin shook his head, "We don't know. He's still in emergency. The old man's health wasn't good to begin with, after everything that happened." He sighed. Everyone knew Chi Bai was getting old, otherwise he wouldn't have been in such a rush for Chi Yan to take over.
"Did you call my parents?"
The Butler replied, "I already did."
"Good."
Soon after, Chi Jin arrived, looking frantic with his shoes on the wrong feet.
Everyone waited anxiously.
Before long, the doctor came out. "He hit his head when he fell. Fortunately, he was brought in quickly, but..." The doctor sighed and shook his head. "The patient is elderly, so..."
At these words, everyone's eyes reddened. Chi Xin asked, "How much time does he have?"
The doctor replied, "If things go well, about three months. If not, a month at most. You should go handle the paperwork now."
Soon, Chi Bai was wheeled out, covered in tubes and wires. Chi Yan and the others all followed, staying by his side.
The family sat watching for a long time. Chi Yan gripped Chu Yang's hand tightly and turned to her. "Yang Yang, you should go home and rest. We can watch over him."
Chu Yang shook her head. "It's fine. I wouldn't be able to sleep anyway."
Chi Xin said, "Yan, you and your wife should go home with Uncle Li to pack some things and get some rest. Jin and I will stay here."
Chi Yan began, "Uncle..."
Chi Xin cut him off, "You two go back for now. The old man probably won't wake up for a while. You can take over for us tomorrow."
Hearing this, Chi Yan agreed. "Alright."
Chi Yan drove Chu Yang straight back to the family home. They had people pack some things, as it was already past 5 AM. Chi Yan pulled Chu Yang into their room. "Yang Yang, let's rest for a bit, then we'll go back to the hospital."
"Okay."
They couldn't really sleep, but lying down with closed eyes was better than nothing. Chi Yan held Chu Yang tightly, his eyes wide open.
Feeling unsettled, Chu Yang opened her eyes to see Chi Yan staring blankly, lost in thought.
She stroked his face. "What's wrong?"
Chi Yan came back to himself and buried his face in her neck. "Yang Yang..."
"Mm, I'm here."
"I'm scared."
Chu Yang felt her heart ache for him. She stroked his head. "Don't be afraid. I'm here. I'll always be with you."
Chi Yan's voice was muffled. "Mm. When I was little, I spent most of my time here at the family home. It wasn't until university that I occasionally lived on my own at Forest Garden Community. You know my parents were often away, so I was always with Grandfather and Uncle. Now Grandfather..." He choked up before finishing. "I thought Grandfather would be with me for a long time."
Chu Yang didn't know what to say, so she just held him tightly, comforting him silently.
"Yang Yang, you have to stay with me forever."
Chu Yang promised, "Don't worry, I'll definitely be with you forever. Try to rest now, and we'll go to the hospital in a bit."
"Mm."
After resting for about two hours, they got up. Chu Yang had food prepared, and they took it with them to the hospital.
When they arrived, Chi Bai still hadn't woken up. The doctor had checked on him and said there were no other issues.
Chu Yang handed breakfast to Chi Xin and Chi Jin. "Uncle and Cousin, please eat something. You can go home and rest, Chi Yan and I will stay here. We'll let you know when Grandfather wakes up."
"Alright, thank you, niece-in-law."
Not long after Chi Xin left, Zhao Yun and Chi Feng rushed in. "How's Dad? Is he alright?"
Chu Yang quickly reassured them. "Grandfather is in the room but hasn't woken up yet."
"What did the doctor say?"
Chu Yang didn't know how to answer this question, so she remained silent.
Chi Yan came over, head lowered. "The doctor said Grandfather is old. If things go well, he has three months. If not..."
Zhao Yun and Chi Feng burst into tears, trying to cry quietly. "We should have stayed at home." Everyone knew Chi Bai was getting old.
After worrying all night and rushing to catch a flight, Chi Feng and Zhao Yun looked haggard.
Chi Yan said, "Mom, Dad, you should go home to rest and pack some things. Yang Yang and I will stay here. We'll call you if Grandfather wakes up."
After a moment, Chi Feng and Zhao Yun agreed.
Once they left, Chu Yang whispered in Chi Yan's ear, "I want to use a healing spell on Grandfather."
Chi Yan's eyes lit up. "Can it cure him?"
Chu Yang shook her head. "Grandfather is old. The healing spell can't extend his life, it can only help his injuries recover faster. It might make him a bit better and give him a little more time, but it can't change the ultimate outcome."
Chi Yan nodded. "That's still good. I'll close the door so no one comes in."
"Mm."
After Chi Yan closed the door and stood guard, Chu Yang made a gesture. A ball of light appeared in her hand and quickly entered Chi Bai's body. They could see his furrowed brow relax.
Chu Yang cast three spells in succession. Chi Bai's eyes moved slightly, but he didn't wake up. Everything remained stable.
Chu Yang took a deep breath and looked at Chi Yan. "It's done."
