Chapter 94 As Expected...
"Oh Chris, isn't it too much to use mana in a mere friendly competition?" Taylor asked with a scary smile on his face…
"Mana? Who is using mana here?" Chris smiled and tried to play dumb, he only had to hold on for 70 more seconds till he won from more damage dealt.
"Don't play dumb, Chris. I spread my mana zone after sensing some anomalies." Taylor glared at Chris.
"Then aren't you the one using mana here?" Chris chuckled at his own joke.
"Haha, yes, that is true, I did use mana right now. But you have been using it for quite a long while, I would say." Taylor squinted his brows, he was feeling quite irritated by Chris's repeated denials in accepting he was indeed using mana.
'I don't think he is dumb enough to be denying continuously like this when I caught him red handed… does he have a different motive?' Taylor scratched his handsome orange beard, 'Am I missing something…?'
Taylor gave a quick look around and suddenly, his eyes fell on a huge ticking timer that was rapidly decreasing to zero.
And that's when it struck him again, this bastard was trying to win by more damage dealt!
"HAHAHAHA, good plan, Chris. Good plan, I commend you, honestly." Taylor suddenly began to clap, making Chris frown.
'Shit, he caught on faster than expected.' he clicked his tongue and smiled at Taylor, "Thanks. I mean, using mana wasn't prohibited, so why not?"
"Indeed, except directly harming, augmentation and strengthening properties can be used. I can't use my fire magic, though. What a shame." Taylor sighed deeply, making Chris squint his eyebrows, 'So he can use elemental magic too? And he sounds quite proficient at it.'
"Well, no point taking a break when so less time is remaining, right?" Taylor smirked, and as soon as his words finished, Chris who wasn't even near him felt as if a caged beast had been released.
His aura was fierce and burning with a desire to win, "And thanks Chris, I wasn't this motivated to win before."-- his words hung in air as he suddenly stepped on the accelerator.
Maybe Chris was just imagining, but he felt as if the speed of car itself had increased after Taylor released his suppressed aura.
"Well, I will let loose a bit too, I guess." Chris laughed, releasing half of his aura as well. His aura was now at top of C-Grade, however still C-Grade since he didn't want anyone to find out the fact that he was a B-Grade yet.
"Ohh? Should I relea-"
"No."
Chris shot down Cathy's excitement after hearing that she wanted to let loose of her control too.
If she gets more carefree, she might end up losing control over her mana that was augmenting her eyesight.
"Ohh? You are a top C-Grade? Not B-Grade like I expected, huh?" Taylor murmured after sensing Chris's prowess quickly, with the whole arena embraced in his faint mana zone, sensing someone's strength was more than easy.
"Yes, haha. I won't lose though." Chris laughed it off as he sped up his car, since Taylor's car had gotten faster, he just needed to shake it off with his masterful driving…
…Or so he thought.
Taylor after releasing his mana had become an unrestrained beast, his mana was somehow enough to cover even their car, making their speed a bit higher than it was supposed to be.
Chris wanted to do that too, but with his suppressed mana he had in arsenal, all he was able to do was create an aerodynamic wind shield that reduced a bit of air resistance, unlike Taylor who had the whole car clad in mana and still seemed like he had more to spare.
'Tsk, if I could use my whole mana I would have more.' Chris grumbled in his mind while speeding his car up and driving it erratically to avoid shots. Alas, he had brought it upon himself by hiding his true prowess.
But, the poor guy didn't have any choice either… breaking past the C-Grade naturally was a miracle of nature, that was nigh impossible to happen to any random guy who had awakened just a month ago.
No matter how talented, it takes much longer than that. Or a huge mental shock, of course. Since mind was the only part of the body which had the most untapped potential.
With the grace of a healthy mind, even the most unexpected outcomes become possible. Anyways, that was not the point… the point here was that regrettably, Chris couldn't let the fact that he was a B-Grade come to light.
If the Cathy incident was to happen again, he could maybe blame it on the emotional trauma and give a passable explanation, but after the deed was done? Only a dumb simpleton would believe Chris's words.
"Chris, he is fucking infusing mana in his water!" Cathy spoke hurriedly as she had tried to cancel our a stream of water with her own, but alas, her stream was cut apart by Taylor's like a hot knife through butter.
"Shit… I will infuse some in ours too." Chris squinted his eyebrows.
"Wait… I have a better idea…" Cathy suddenly stopped him and quickly whispered some stuff in Chris's ears, making his eye's brighten in joy and his ears twitching in excitement!
"But… I will need to remove the windshield." Chris sighed after hearing Cathy's idea.
"It is fine. If the idea works, we don't even need to drive much." Cathy smiled at Chris.
"Sigh, don't miss." Chris sighed and went along with her kind of a risky plan, but well, with only half a minute remaining, there was no time left to think much.
After all, Taylor was no longer holding back and now completely motivated to win.
'Hah, I will win, Chris. I will win to snag those 100k$ worth of limited premium cosmetics that are highly in demand around the world. Poor guy doesn't even realize how miraculous his product is… and how dangerous that product is…' Taylor thought, staring at Chris's otherworldly handsome face, 'no wonder this bastard was so handsome and climbed up to power so quickly…
…He is the same as 'them'.
Oblivious to the 'them' everyone kept speaking of, Chris kept channeling his mana to a spot no one thought he would channel it to…
On the other hand, Taylor suddenly saw that Chris's speed had reduced a bit, and thinking that Chris was running out of mana, he sped up closer and Alia began to shoot the target.
Alas, Cathy was defending the target with her own, hitting the stream on stream technique. Since she was infusing a bit of her mana in the water too, it was a bit bearable to say the least.
"Chris, hurry up, I couldn't hold on for more!" Cathy urged Chris after seeing that facing the resistance, Taylor simply infused more of his mana in their gun to break through the blockage.
"Yes! Done!" finally after what seemed like an eternity, Chris sighed in relief and gave a reassuring nod to Cathy.
"Sigh, about time…" Cathy sighed in relief as well, however both of their relief washed away as soon as they heard a loud chant coming from spectators.
"10!... 9!... 8!..." the crowd began to get rowdy, even started some bets on the winner as soon as the last seconds hit the clock.
"Sigh, good luck, sis." Chris bumped his fist with Cathy as she stopped defending the target and suddenly aimed at the center of Taylor's target.
Both their targets were in tatters, both their water were infused with mana and… both were determined to win.
"Haha! As I thought! Young master is the one who won!" a beefy guy who was standing among the crowd with his ripped muscles bulging. He went towards the wimpy worker, who was surprisingly, organizing betting on Chris's and Taylor's match!
A wimp like him had guts to organize such an event, that was quite surprising and impressive…
"Match isn't over yet." the wimpy worker turned around and looked at the ongoing match.
However there was no need to look, as expected, by the laws of the physics, Taylor's water stream hitted Chris's target first since Cathy had to stop shooting, re-aim, and then shoot again.
Naturally, that took more time than Alia who kept shooting.
Seeing that, everyone who bet on Chris sighed in disappointment all together.
But… // BEEP! WINNER… TEAM-2! //
