Chapter 30
C30 – His Disguise
Since his master had no intention of accepting him as a disciple, there was little he could do about it. Then, a thought struck him.
“Young Master Yun, I have an adversary out there. Surely that won’t bring trouble your way, will it?” He couldn’t risk leading his relentless disciple straight to his master’s doorstep.
“Let’s hear about this disciple of yours,” Yun Haoyan prompted, his curiosity piqued about how Miao Hujin’s own student had managed to wreak such havoc on him.
In his past life, Yun Haoyan had been too weak for his master to share any details about enemies, merely whisking him away to the Primordial Realm.
Miao Hujin, upon hearing Yun Haoyan’s request, displayed a mix of emotions. “My nemesis is my sole disciple, Jin Qiwei. He’s the reason my Dantian is destroyed and I’m riddled with poison. He coveted the Divine Pill Refining Furnace I accidentally came across and conspired with others to ambush me. This treacherous disciple blindsided me and struck me down. Had it not been for an eighth-grade life and death pill, I would’ve perished by his hand long ago. Thankfully, my strength was substantial—I had reached the Martial King Realm and possessed several pills that could temporarily boost my power level. After slaying a few of his accomplices, I managed to escape.”
As he recounted the betrayal, Miao Hujin’s eyes darkened with loathing. “He’s despicable. Such a person deserves death!” Yun Haoyan’s eyes also simmered with a vengeful fury. In his last life, he lacked the power, but this time around, he was determined to annihilate that monster.
“Don’t fret, I’m not one to take oppression lying down. Should he dare to come after me, I’ll end him myself.”
“Can the Yun family really fend off a Martial King’s assault?” Miao Hujin couldn’t hide his astonishment.
Silkbarrow was hardly a metropolis; to Martial Cultivators of their caliber, it was little more than a hamlet. Could such a modest place harbor a warrior of the Martial King Realm?
Yun Haoyan shook his head, clarifying, “It’s not about my power, but rather, yours.”
“Me?” Miao Hujin exclaimed, “My dantian is destroyed. Beyond a slight ability to refine pills, I’m nothing but a useless husk.”
The dantian’s sole purpose was to store Spiritual Energy, yet Miao Hujin could still harness the ambient Spiritual Energy for pill refining.
However, drawing upon the Spiritual Energy from the air was immensely draining on one’s mental power.
With his dantian in ruins, Miao Hujin’s strength had evaporated, leaving him reliant solely on his mental energy.
Enemies won’t patiently wait for you to leisurely draw in Spiritual Energy from the ether. Combat is instantaneous, and even if Pill King Miao Hujin marshaled all his mental power, he could only handle some minor Martial Grandmaster figures.
“Your dantian is damaged, but it’s not beyond repair. True, the Spiritual Plants needed for your recovery are exceedingly rare, but they do exist in this world.
As long as they exist, there’s hope for your recovery. It might take a considerable amount of time, though,” Yun Haoyan assured him with confidence, aware of a ninth-grade pill that could heal Miao Hujin.
“Nevertheless, there are ways to temporarily regain your former strength. Should that vile disciple dare to confront you, simply ingest the pill I provide, and you’ll have the power to end his life with your own hands. I’m familiar with a pill that can briefly restore your vitality.”
“Excellent,” Pill King Miao Hujin bellowed with a hearty laugh. “That puts my mind at ease!”
Yun Haoyan went on, “There’s a favor I need to ask of you.”
“Name it. If it’s within my power, I’ll spare no effort,” Miao Hujin replied, stroking his beard with a chuckle.
With the crisis averted and vengeance within sight, Pill King Miao Hujin’s demeanor had undergone a profound transformation.
“It’s a bit awkward,” Yun Haoyan began, “but I told my father I’ve taken on a mysterious and powerful figure as my master, which accounts for my abilities. So, I need you to pose as my master.”
“What?” Miao Hujin blanched, hastily gesturing in refusal. “How can I agree to that? I can’t possibly pretend to be your master.”
“No, absolutely not. That’s out of the question.”
