Chapter 15
C15 – Mysterious Man in Black
“Kill!” Yun Haoyan unleashed a merciless slaughter, indifferent to the status of those before him. Anyone he laid eyes on was marked for death.
With his Martial Emperor-level perception, Yun Haoyan could sense his prey no matter where they hid; none could elude his detection.
“Don’t kill me. I’m Qiu Kuiwei, the eldest son of the Qiu family. You can’t kill me,” a man pleaded before Yun Haoyan, his voice quivering with fear.
“Qiu Kuiwei!” Yun Haoyan bellowed with laughter, eyeing the man before him. “You are exactly who I intend to kill. Today, not a soul from the Qiu family shall survive.”
Qiu Kuiwei fell to his knees, begging, “Please, I won’t dare to cross you again. Have mercy on me!”
“Mercy? Who showed mercy to the Yun family?” Yun Haoyan’s voice was heavy with reproach.
“Yun Haoyan, I won’t dare to marry your sister now, I swear it. Please, I’m begging you to spare me!” Qiu Kuiwei wailed, his cries echoing with desperation.
He had assumed Yun Haoyan was exacting revenge for his actions that day. Had he known of Yun Haoyan’s formidable strength, he would never have sought to marry his sister.
Yun Haoyan scoffed, “You think this is about my sister? I’m well aware of your family’s plot against the Yuns!”
“You know?” Qiu Kuiwei’s face drained of color. “How could you possibly know?”
As the heir apparent of his family, he was deeply involved in the scheme against the Yuns.
But the plan was supposed to be a secret, known only to his father and a mysterious figure. It should not have been exposed.
Yun Haoyan’s heart leapt with quiet triumph upon hearing Qiu Kuiwei’s admission, realizing he was privy to insider information.
“Speak up. What good are your secrets now? Confess everything to me, and I might just let you live.”
“I’ll tell you everything,” Qiu Kuiwei vowed, ready to do whatever it took to save his own life. “I don’t know all the details, but a man dressed in black visited our family, seeking the Qiu’s cooperation to annihilate your Yun family.
There’s no bad blood between our families, the Yuns and the Qius. Why would we ever target the Yuns?”
“It’s got nothing to do with the Qiu family. Just let me go, please!”
“Black-clothed men?” Yun Haoyan realized that this individual must be the puppet master. He demanded sharply, “What did the black-clothed men offer the Qiu family?”
“A low-grade Earth-level cultivation technique,” Qiu Kuiwei confessed, then resumed his kowtowing. “We were wrong. I’m begging you, please spare me.”
“Where’s this man in black?” Yun Haoyan bellowed.
Startled, Qiu Kuiwei pointed towards a room, stammering, “In there, there’s a basement. That’s where the man in black is hiding.”
Following Qiu Kuiwei’s direction, Yun Haoyan saw a firewood shed.
“You’re of no further use. You can die now!” With that, Yun Haoyan’s palm crashed down on Qiu Kuiwei’s skull.
“You’re not keeping your promise,” Qiu Kuiwei gasped, collapsing dead to the ground.
Keeping promises?
Why should I keep promises with a dead man like you?
Yun Haoyan approached the shed’s entrance and shoved the door open. His senses told him that a peak Grand Martial Master was concealed underground.
He stamped his foot, and the earth thudded ominously.
“Come out! Or do I need to extend a personal invitation?”
“Who are you?” A man in black emerged from below, squinting at Yun Haoyan in confusion.
“Who am I?” Yun Haoyan’s smile was icy. “You’ve been so eager to annihilate the Yun family, haven’t you? Well, I am one of them.”
This black-clad figure was a peak Grand Martial Master. The Yun family would never dare to cross someone of his caliber. Yet, Yun Haoyan was curious to find out why this man in black was so bent on their destruction.
