Chapter 745
Chapter 745
Tarot card right in position.
Direct manifestation with no reversal effect.
As the face-down card made of light flipped over, a huge wave of power rushed out from within, releasing its effect flawlessly.
“Not too bad for a one-in-fifty chance.”
‘Just what I would expect for a second dealing.’ Davey thought.
There were a total of fifty cards linked to the soul in Heavenly Demon’s Card Album, and of these, he only managed to activate ten of them. That essentially made them mostly failures—fortunately, the light card he drew was exactly the card that he wanted.
“After all, the hand is quicker than the eye.”
As the light from the card enveloped the area, those rushing toward Davey stopped and looked at him with faces full of fear. But when the light completely penetrated him and nothing happened, they started laughing.
"I… I don't know what happened, but I think his magic failed! Since there's a sacrifice effect, let’s attack him…”
Of course, they couldn't finish what they were saying as Davey pounced on the guy closest to him in an instant, grabbed his head, and lifted it up.Rattle, rattle!!
"Grrr… Gaaa!!”
Bang!
At the same time, the man's soul seemed to run wild, causing a huge explosion. It wasn't a mana explosion or a physical explosion; it was an explosion of a formless soul. Half of his soul burst out in one go. However, unlike the dark magic-based Soul Explosion, Berserk Soul’s effect wore out all the surrounding souls.
“Gaaa?!”
The ones going after Davey stumbled from the sudden intangible blow.
“Ga… What did you do...?”
“The soul of life contains a large amount of energy. What I just did consumes the soul's power and causes a massive Soul Explosion. You guys with low resistance can’t stop it, no matter what you do.”
At his explanation, the ones who tried to throw themselves at Davey made confused faces.
“Of course, the conditions are a bit strict. Fortunately, I don't have to be as strict to deal with weak people like you who have terrible resistance. Another card appeared, light shining through his fingertips.
"Alright, everyone! Here we go, one more time!! Second Tarot Card, open in the right position.”
Another card manifested—the card had the same drawing style as the previous one.
“Berserk Soul.”
Their expressions turned white at his words.
Bang!!
Davey used most of the soul in his hand, causing a large-scale Soul Explosion again.
“Kaaa!!!”
“Blegh!!!”
Some of them stumbled from extreme dizziness and felt like dying, vomiting everything within them along with blood.
“Here goes the third card.”
The Berserk Soul Tarot card, which glowed and disappeared, slipped back into the card album. The deck shuffled itself, then Davey opened another card, only to find…
"S-Stop!!”
He drew the card with the same pattern. He knew from experience that for someone who lacked resistance, this Soul Explosion card would imprint upon them extremely terrible memories and trauma. He wanted them to pay the price for interrupting his good time.
‘Y’all better beg for your lives,’ Davey thought.
Bang!!!!
The human soul in his hand was already tattered, almost like a rag that could no longer be called a human soul. However, Davey showed no mercy and caused another huge explosion.
“Blegh!!!”
Eventually, even the Black Knights, who were no longer alive, were exposed to the aftermath and began to twist, fall, and collapse.
“Fourth card. Open.”
“Please!! Please stop!!”
“Berserk Soul.”
Boom!!
The explosions continued. Only then did they seem to realize that Davey’s goal wasn’t to simply exterminate them.
“I am going to torture you until the moment you die.”
“Damn it! Out of all those cards, why does it have to be that weird one that keeps coming out?!” a man on the floor screamed, tears and snot pouring out.
“I bet all my mana that the next card will be the same. What do you guys want to bet?” Davey said while smiling.
“Berserk Soul.”
“Oh… Oh oh… Death Lord... Please just let me die instead…”
The instinctively repulsive Soul Explosion caused the surroundings to shake once again.
***
Silence filled the surroundings. The soul Davey used to trigger the explosion was basically a dried-up rag by this point—it seemed like every piece of life had been sucked out of it.
The only people remaining in front of him were those whose minds had crumbled.
Berserk Soul was at its core a card ability used to massacre ordinary people. It was a technique that killed just one person and subdued dozens, but several conditions had to be satisfied before using it.
Davey lightly picked up the card album that was no longer glowing and shuffled the cards while second dealing. He then quickly pulled out the top card and revealed it.
The Berserk Soul card appeared again…
“Even though it’s been a while, my skills haven’t gone anywhere.”
Davey couldn’t help but think that getting a royal flush wasn’t that big of a deal when the cards in the card album were mixed with the power of the soul and capable of playing tricks like this.
“Even your elders died to my shuffling skills.”
"Ugh... Ahhh… Please… Please stop..." begged a man who didn’t even have the strength to scream.
His actions were truly servile compared to how the others who had practically been courting death
"Don't worry, I’m not going to kill you.”
‘Cause my navigation is dead,’ Davey thought.
The red mutant that consumed Chao Huang and fled couldn't withstand the aftermath of the fifth Berserk Soul Explosion and died. Davey didn’t expect this to happen. He never imagined it would die like this after just a few moves from the Heavenly Demon’s Card Album, even though it was a strong guy that could usually withstand quite a few attacks.
"The Heavenly Demon sure has some unique techniques,” Davey said while shuffling the cards. He then reached out for another one.
“Tarot card open right in position.”
A card moved according to his words. A mana storm was already occurring in the surrounding area due to the mana that had been completely consumed. Rather than using mana, it was inevitably more convenient to use the power of the Heavenly Demon, the power of the soul.
“Huh?! What is this?!”
While everyone else was dead, the only surviving man struggled with his eyes wide open at the changes his body had gone through. But he couldn’t move his body as he wanted to.
“Marionette,” Davey chanted, red threads coming out of nowhere to grab the man's arms and legs, making it seem like he was hanging from the sky.
“Whatever, man. Just guide me to where the others are fleeing—my GPS died.”
Wringing these guys to death was one thing, and eradicating the remnants of the Illuminati was something that he needed to do anyway.
He was going to deal with every one of them.
***
“Sir, you must hurry. There’s no time."
People wearing black robes hurriedly boarded the helicopter. They had expected something like this from the beginning, but it happened all too fast and at the worst possible time. They couldn’t understand how he could get here so easily with mutants already active all over the world—the situation seemed to unfold too perfectly in his favor to be a coincidence. Even so, the remaining members of the Illuminati couldn’t just accept destruction at his hands.
“What happened to those who went to the church?”
“They just returned from the mission.”
“The results?”
“Successful, sir.”
“I guess I can use it at the last moment,” the old man mumbled as he got on the helicopter.
"There’s no time. We’ll get out of here while the death squad holds him back to buy some time. Now that we’ve achieved our goal, there’s no need to stay on this Earth anymore."
"Yes sir.”
“Blow up all the unstable magic stones and scatter all the mana so he can’t track us!”
Bang! Bang!!
Helicopters used gas engines to fly, so it didn’t matter whether or not they had mana. The old man knew that the damn Saint of Tionis moved using mana, so he believed that if they stopped the movement of mana they could prevent Davey from chasing them—no matter how powerful he was.
At least, that was what he thought.
Soon, five or six helicopters took off simultaneously. But then, something amazing happened. A white light appeared from the ground, and wild beasts that resembled pure white fog materialized.
Crunch!
Before the helicopters could escape, the beasts jumped up like springs, attacking the helicopters and biting off the drive trains, causing them to eventually crash.
"What?! Didn’t we burn down all the mana with a storm?”
Unless one was completely out of their mind, it didn’t make sense to try to use mana in the current situation. Master-level beings or higher could use magic even in situations like this, but that was only for short periods—it would be a huge burden, even for them. Given that fact, the man couldn’t figure out how these crazy beasts appeared.
The helicopters, desperately trying to resist the earth’s pull, began to spin and fall one by one as screams poured out.
Bang! Bang!!
All of them ultimately crashed to the ground before they could get going, with several exploding upon impact.
“Cough! Cough!!”
The old man fell to the ground. While he was suffering from the fall, he tried to find out what kind of crazy person had caused this situation. He then met that person eye to eye.
A young man, seeming to have just passed his adolescence, was walking leisurely with a screaming member of the death squad leading him.
“Now where do you think you’re going? You bastard,” Davey smiled cynically.
The old man gulped as he looked at the young man, knowing the organization would be completely destroyed if he got caught. Even though there were still some members of leadership in the country safely hiding, there were only a couple of them. If the tower controllers here died, the foundation of the organization would inevitably become distorted and collapse.
Regardless of whether the Illuminati made it alive or not, the mutants would run rampant as instructed. However, the Illuminati still had to be alive in order to reap any benefits from their man-made catastrophe. Therefore, he had to make it out alive no matter what—but how?
As he contemplated, he recalled the results brought back by the ones who had been dispatched to the Neltarid Church.
‘Yeah… If I use that woman who was made using the Death Lord's last artifact...' the old man thought as he stared with bated breath at that damned monster in front of him. He then signaled the young dark mage behind him who’d managed to survive.
‘Wake her up,’ he thought.
She was created using the Death Lord's artifact—she herself was the Death Lord. He figured the monster wouldn’t be able to do anything if they woke up Rho Aias, no matter how monstrous he was. Even though she was in an unstable state, he figured an absolute monarch who was death incarnate would at least be able to buy him time to escape. But in contrast to the old man’s tense thoughts, Davey seemed very relaxed.
“After all the trouble your group has caused me, I definitely need to give you a present in return,” Davey said while grinning. He then grabbed the head of the death squad member who had been serving as his navigator. At the same time, white cards quickly gathered around him, rotated and shuffled, then formed a deck.
“Open in the right position.”
At those words, the man screamed with a pale face.
"J-Just kill me!! Please!! Please stop!!"
“Now, now. Why are you giving up already when you don’t even know what’s going to come out?”
“You son of a bitch!! It won’t matter how much you shuffle that damn deck. You’ll just end up with the… Blegh!!”
Boom!!!!
At the same time, using about half of the man’s soul, a Soul Explosion occurred.
“Hm. You were right, it’s Berserk Soul again,” Davey grinned while keeping a poker face pretending that he had absolutely no clue this was going to happen. Those who were seeing Soul Explosion for the first time covered their mouths and stumbled.
“Huh?! What is this?!”
“Ugh!!”
With that, the surrounding people felt unimaginable dizziness and hallucinations. Everyone was subdued instantly as the strange feeling of helplessness and the sensation of their organs shaking took over their bodies.
“Alright, alright. Let us all pray that something different comes out this time,” Davey said jokingly, floating the cards in the air again and shuffling them.
“Tarot card open in the right position.”
And then…
“Berserk Soul.”
As if trying to show that he didn’t care even the slightest bit about their pain, he recited the name without even looking at what card it was. Drawing one card out of the fifty more than ten times in a row was beyond the scope of luck and coincidence.
“You’re just picking cards the way you want, you fuuucking bastard!!” the man wailed. Davey tore the man’s soul into four, causing another huge Soul Explosion.
Seeing the man scream and beg, all of the Illuminati members who had gathered to escape fell to the floor again, coughing up blood and everything inside them as they screamed in pain.
