Chapter 27 - The Jones Family Of Halmont
The one who led these men was a large and brawny man with a buzzcut.
This big man, known as Brother Max, was Dexter's right-hand man. He committed many misdeeds while following Dexter!
Augustus's face was calm. "Are you Dexter Fox's men?"
"That's right. Brother Dexter sent us to cripple you! How about it? Do you regret making enemies with Brother Dexter now?" Max's expression was mocking Augustus.
"Hm, not really."
Max was livid. "Damn it, you still dare to talk back even when you're about to die! Get him, boys! Let him know what we're capable of!"
Max gave the order, and eight burly men picked up the clubs in their hands and surrounded Augustus.
At that instant, a Rolls-Royce Phantom charged from the road and blocked their paths.
The passenger door opened, and a tall figure with high heels stepped down.
"You b*tch, are you f*cking blind? Watch how you drive!"
Max cussed immediately.
The next second, a punch sank in his stomach and he fell to his knees immediately.
"You're the blind one. Watch who you're insulting before opening your mouth!"
A driver wearing a tunic suit pointed at the Rolls-Royce's license plate.
Max looked up and instantly broke out in cold sweat.
The license plate was very simple. JF001.
However, everyone in Halmont City knew what a license plate starting with "JF" meant.
"The Jones family? You're from the Jones family in Halmont!"
Max's face paled in fear.
Even Augustus's expression shifted slightly.
As someone who was born and raised in Halmont, he naturally knew about the Jones family.
The Jones were considered an illustrious and prestigious family in Halmont City. Their reach extended to the military, the business world, and even in political circles. Their influence was massive.
Augustus never expected the woman he saved the other day would be a member of Halmont's Jones family!
"How dare you speak against our Eldest Miss. Tell me, how do you want to die?"
The driver in the tunic suit looked at Max with a cold killing intent in his eyes.
Augustus could see that the man was not simply taunting Max. The murderous intent in his eyes was definitely real.
In other words, if Max dared to make a peep in defiance, the man would definitely kill him on the spot!
Unfortunately, Max had already lost the courage to disobey. When he heard the man, he fell to his knees and knelt in front of Clara.
"M-Ms. Jones. I was blind and offended you. Please spare me this once!"
Clara's face was calm. "I'm not the only one you offended. There's Mr. Cross too!"
"What? Him?"
The driver said, "Mr. Cross is Ms. Jones's benefactor and a valued guest of the Jones family. How dare you cause trouble for him! Are you tired of living?"
Max was completely dumbfounded.
He thought that Augustus was just an ordinary son-in-law of the Harrington family. He never thought that Augustus would have connections with a huge tree like the Jones family!
Even if Max had balls of steel, he would not dare to make an enemy out of the Jones family!
"Mr. Cross, I was wrong. I swear that I'll never trouble you again. Please spare me this time!"
The twenty-odd men behind him followed by example and knelt down.
"Mr. Cross, please spare us this time!"
Augustus could not be bothered to talk nonsense with them either. "Go back and tell your Brother Dexter that if he still wants to look for trouble, I'll welcome him anytime!"
"We won't! We won't anymore!"
Max was terrified. Just as he was about to leave, he heard Clara shout coldly. "Did I say that you could go?"
Max and the men's legs softened in fear as they knelt on the ground again.
"No one has ever dared to scold me like how you did. Each of you will receive a thousand slaps! Take it as a lesson!"
"T-Thank you, Ms. Jones!"
Max and the others did not dare to disobey her. They knelt on the ground and began to slap themselves.
For a while, all that was heard at the district's entrance was the sound of slapping.
Augustus sighed in his heart. Clara's methods were really aggressive. As expected of the Jones family!
"Mr. Cross, please get into the car!"
When it came to Augustus, Clara was springy and warm, acting just like an ordinary girl-next-door.
Only then did Augustus notice that Clara's appearance was extremely beautiful.
She had fair skin and delicate features that were not inferior to Jeanne at all.
Furthermore, due to her status as someone from an influential family, there was a certain aura from her. She seemed to have a generous and natural air to her. She was truly a young lady from a noble house.
"Ms. Jones, you said you needed to see me for something? What is it?"
Augustus got into the car and went straight to the point.
"The thing is… My grandfather suddenly fell sick two days ago and the situation is a bit tricky now. I was wondering if you could help me cure him."
In fact, when Augustus saved Clara that day, Clara had been taking Howard to see Old Master Jones.
That day, after Howard's treatment, Old Master Jones's condition did stabilize a little. However, since yesterday, Old Master Jones's illness relapsed, and Clara thought about asking Augustus to help.
After hearing Clara's story, Augustus nodded. "I can try."
"Really? That's great!"
Clara was overjoyed.
In Clara's opinion, Augustus, who managed to cure the cold energy accumulated in her body with just three needles, was definitely worthy to have high hopes for!
