Chapter 245: Rising Heat.
As the White Flame Sovereign screeched in pain and anger, the fire mana in the entire dungeon went haywire. A sea of fire surged out from where the White Flame Sovereign stood, completely consuming the entire dungeon. The only space that was unaffected by the sea of fire was Ark's [Chaos Domain].
Thanks to it, he didn't need to worry about the sweltering heat that came from the immense fire magic that was trying to consume him at every cost.
The White Flame Sovereign could see that its flames had little to no effect on Ark, and its body made up of white flames started trembling. A small amount of its body dissolved into the sea of flames, sending white embers in the direction of Ark's domain. Ark could see and feel the power that came from the white embers, and he quickly reacted.
At the periphery of his domain's boundary, Ark created a thin water membrane that he fused with chaos magic.
The silvery water membrane looked feeble and weak, but any fire that came close disappeared before it could even come into contact with it. The white embers soon collided with the water membrane, and Ark could feel his entire [Chaos Domain] tremble slightly. The white embers were kept out with some difficulty, but Ark once again had to use up some mana in the process.
The White Flame Sovereign saw that its attack was futile and could only try to attack once more. This time, it dissolved an even larger part of its body into the sea of fire, reducing its size by at least 20%.
Ark knew that a flimsy membrane wasn't enough to stop the attack that was coming once he saw how much of the White Flame Sovereign's body was missing. He instead layered another water barrier over the water membrane, which he also infused with chaos magic. He didn't feel good spending so much mana but he also didn't want to underestimate the power of the White Flame Sovereign's attack.
In the blink of an eye, a stream of white flames crashed into the water barrier that Ark had erected with incredible momentum.
The sound of a bubble being popped could be heard, as the water barrier was broken through in less than a second. Ark frowned and was just about to reinforce the water membrane when he suddenly heard another similar sound again.
With not much time to react, Ark quickly summoned a shield of water infused with chaos magic, but because he wasn't prepared enough, it disintegrated as soon as the white flames touched it.
Ark could only try to dodge to the best of his ability with the help of wind magic, but because of the immense speed of the white flames, he had nowhere to run to. The remaining white flames hit Ark on his right thigh and he was surprised by the lack of heat. The surprise didn't last long as he suddenly felt immense pain in his soul.
The flames hit Ark's physical body, but instead of burning his body to a crisp, they started burning his soul. Luckily for Ark, the flames had been pretty much exhausted thanks to all the defences he had put up, but he was still in an insane amount of agony.
Out of pure instinct, Ark activated his [Chaos Soul] and transformed into his wolf form. He howled in agony, and the entire dungeon crumbled slightly. Rocks and debris fell from the ceiling, and cracks appeared in the walls. Outside of the dungeon, the people could hear Ark's howl, and they could feel a slight pressure on their souls as a result.
Ephine and Atar weren't burdened by such paltry pressure, but the regular people definitely were. Luckily, Ark had laid down some defensive magic circles, and they managed to cancel out any harm that would've been done otherwise.
The others might not have been able to tell the difference, but Ephine could hear the agony in and pain in Ark's howl, and her slight worry grew deeper and deeper. Atar, much like his mom, could also tell that something wasn't right, and he became a little worried as well. He wanted to go and help, but as he was about to move, Ephine put an arm on his shoulder.
She wanted nothing more than to help Ark, but she knew her limits. If Ark was facing an enemy that he was having trouble defeating, then neither she nor Atar would be of any help to him.
If anything, they would be a distraction, and a distraction might end up being the difference between life and death. With reluctance, she could only wait with anxiety eating away at her mind. Because of Ark's magic artefacts, she knew that he wasn't in mortal danger yet. If he was, she wouldn't hesitate to rush into the dungeon, regardless if she had to forfeit her life in the process.
Whether it was a lost cause or not wouldn't be important at that point.
Back in the cave, Ark managed to quell the fire burning his soul after expending a bit more mana. However, as a result of the soul-tearing pain that occupied his mind, Ark could feel his rationality slipping. The painful memories of when he had been held captive by the lich, and the torture he had endured in the process resurfaced in his mind.
The pain of the soul was on a different level, and it was hard for him to forget such horrid memories.
Feeling an intense amount of anger and hatred, Ark started madly accumulating mana for a large attack. This White Flame Sovereign had truly provoked Ark at this point. Ark's pupils expanded rapidly and turned slightly red, as he opened his mouth to howl once more. The White Flame Sovereign seemed to feel the danger of what Ark was about to do, and it started moving accordingly.
Its humanoid figure dissolved completely into a large white flame that started spinning rapidly. The surrounding sea of fire moved in response to the white flame and started revolving rapidly with the ball of white flame at its core. In the crumbling dungeon, a ball of white flames was spinning rapidly, surrounded by a dome of revolving flames.
On the other side, a towering wolf opened its mouth slowly and released a howl that would be able to shake the very heavens themselves.
As the air shook and trembled, a large tidal wave of silver water was stirred into existence in front of Ark. The tidal wave infused with chaos magic surged into the dome of revolving fire, creating a clash of two massive forces of mana.
Thanks to the chaos magic infused into the water, the revolving dome of fire was destroyed in an instant, and the crashing waves surged forward to attack the white bundle of fire. The impact of the collision created an explosion that blasted the entire dungeon to shreds.
The crumbling ceiling and cracked walls were completely blasted apart, and Ark was flung straight through the entrance door by the resulting force, his fate unknown. The sudden explosion that blasted apart the entire dungeon scared the people who were waiting outside out of their wits.
