Chapter 411 Decisive Attack (2)
The attack on Magair's wall was too sudden! No one had anticipated such a quick and heavy strike would be launched on the outer capital of Rivera all of a sudden. After all, the war had only stared just over a month ago. Normally, one would expect more time to have passed before such an attack.
Leon was standing on the deck of the Blood Breaker as it hovered high in the air. The magic airship's cannons radiated heat as they cooled down from their earlier barrage of attacks on the wall. A few secondary armaments and mages were still hurling down attacks, but the intensity had reduced greatly to allow the ground forces do their work.
"Take down their airships!" A call drew Leon's attention and he peered over the side of the ship. He could see a dozen or so A rank preparing themselves to attack the fleet of magic airships.
"Humph." He smirked. This time, he did not disguise himself. There was no need for that, since he was going to use his army to fight this time. "Let's see what you're made of!" He leaped off the side of the ship. In the next second, a dozen shadows followed him, sticking close to him.
"Let us take care of them, Master!" Nero voiced his thoughts.
"And let you steal all the fun? Not a chance!" Leon laughed as he manipulated mana to support his body as he fell and quickly closed the distance between himself and the defenders. The bright sun that hung in the sky made his black bones glow under its glare, giving Leon and the other Obsidian Skeletons present a majestic glow.
Crack!!
A loud sound rang in the air as Leon witnessed the surface of the earth suddenly sport a massive crack. The crack expanded as a giant root broke free of the earth.
"What?" Leon was surprised. He had never seen a monster like this before. Was it an actual creature, or was it a summon of magic? A closer looked allowed Leon to see the bountiful lifeforce that was resting within the core of the creature was it broke free of the ground.
BOOM!
Rocks and earth fell aside, creating large clouds of dust and ruined ground covered in craters. The giant tree monster was about fifty meters tall, with limbs that were as thick as ten meters. It looked extremely lumbering, as if its movements would be extremely slow.
But in the next moment, Leon's assumptions were dashed when the left arm of the monster blurred and tore through the air to get at him.
"Scatter!"
Without even saying it, Leon's summons had already parted and scattered to dodge the arm. The powerful aura radiated from that monster was enough to tell them that this was not something that they could casually mess with!
Whoosh!
The sound barrier broke as the arm of the tree monster whizzed by. To Leon's astonishment, as it passed by, the thick roots that made up its body suddenly broke apart, turning into much smaller and agile vines that chased after Leon and his summons.
"Tch, do you think I'm easy to bully?" Leon clicked his teeth and a sickly green light flashed within his skull as he activated his Mystic Eyes Supreme Skill.
ROOOOAARRR!!!
A deep bellow boomed from within the monster as the vines that chased after Leon immediately began to rot and turn to dust. It quickly tore off that portion of its arm to stop the spread of the magic that had invaded its body.
What Leon had just used was an aspect of his Mystic Eyes Skill. Previously, he only had Curse Eyes, which allowed him to cast a general 50% debuff on enemies that lasted until the skill was turned off. After Curse Eyes got upgraded to Mystic Eyes, several aspects had been added to the skill. One of such was the Rot Effect, which cast a 'Rot' debuff on the enemy, causing the matter that made up the portion of their body that the spell came into contact with to decay.
This Rot Effect was not stagnant, and would continue to spread so long as it could find uninfected matter to infect. This was just one among several other effects that Leon had managed to unlock after getting this Supreme Skill.
Bzzt!!
Lightning flashed as sudden clouds appeared in the sky. Before anyone could react, a thick bolt of lightning struck down accurately on the head of the giant tree monster. The flash of the lightning was so bright that even B ranks had to pause and shield their eyes or else they would risk going blind.
"FEEL MY BLADE!!!" Nero was much more vocal as he raised his sword above his head. A giant manifestation of energy formed a red sword. By the time the sword was formed, everyone could see the effects of the giant lightning bolt.
It turned out that the giant tree monster had put up a wooden shield at the last moment above its head while reinforcing it with magic! The earlier lightning strike had broken through the magic, but only left a scorch mark behind on the wooden shield.
Nero's giant sword swung down, tearing an arc through the air and striking down on the wooden shield.
BOOM!
A massive ring shockwave spread outward, blowing away the dust and smoke from the movements of the giant tree monster. Mana rubbed against mana was another shield was conjured just in time to block Nero's attack, but because it was so sudden, the integrity of the shield was lacking.
CRACK!!!
The shield shattered into countless pieces as Nero's sword passed right through it and slammed into the wooden shield. Countless smaller vines and roots that made up the shield were shredded into pieces as the sword passed halfway into the shield before coming to a stop.
"BREAK FOR ME!" Nero suddenly bellowed and a surge of mana left his body and flowed into the giant sword manifestation.
Bang!
An explosion of mana and energy blasted into the shield, shattering it into pieces and sending the giant tree monster staggering back into the wall of Magair!
