Systemless in a Parallel World

Chapter 94 Artifacts

Zayn was excited when he left the Master Weaponsmith's Shop. He swung the azure-blue blades to the front with a swish. The sound traveled several meters before it died down.

"I wonder if it was really fine to pay just two gold thalers for the Dragontale Twin Sabers," He mumbled while his eyes were glinting brightly.

Two gold thalers was far more than the money he obtained from killing the Mutant Gluttony Termite Queen and selling over a hundred thousand gel sacs of the Gluttony Termites, but it was not that great of a difference in the money he made during that mission.

There was a reason for the high reward he had received for the Mutant Termite Queen Mission, which was its extremely high risk. This was also why the D-rank mission would have soon advanced to a C-rank mission.

"To think that I would never hear someone saying 'just' two gold thalers. You do realize that two gold thalers are 20 gold coins, which is equivalent to the annual income of a C-Rank Adventurer on average, right?" Merlin asked but Zayn just shrugged his shoulders.

He knew that he had a huge fortune in his possession, but the vast majority of it came from Paul, a member of Phillip Cerk's group, and also the person who Zayn presumed to be the manager of the group's finances. And not to forget, it also came from Phillip Cerk's father, whom he had deprived of a pretty decent fortune.

Zayn was not really bothered about paying two gold thalers because he had gotten his hands on the best possible weapon set he could wish for. Under his circumstances, the azure-blue Dragontale Twin Sabers were simply too perfect and an ideal weapon.

They were created after the traditional eastern weapon-type WanJianDao, which was translated to "Ten Thousand Sword Saber", and the Houtou-Style Tachi. This type of weapon was widely used all around the world, Zayn's old world, of course. Zayn recalled the type of weapon when he held and swung it around. He also recalled that he had wielded such a weapon before as well. Unfortunately, his memories didn't help him any further.

The eastern weapon was known for its long and wide blade. Typically the length of the saber blade ranged between 70 to 80 centimeters, while the width ranged between 3-4 centimeters. The blade was typically curved with a single edge. Though the curve was not prominent, one could roughly make it out. Usually, the handle of the saber was long and wrapped in cord, designated to accommodate two hands, while a pommel, a small knob at the end of the hilt, helped to balance the saber.

However, Zayn's case was a little different. Both Dragontale Twin Sabers had a 65-centimeter-long blade that was slightly curved at the end. Both of them had a single edge that was honed to the extreme. The blades gleamed in an azure-blue color that created a stark contrast to the black hilt that was short and unable to accommodate two hands. Nonetheless, the width of the blade was still roughly four centimeters and intricate patterns had been engraved on them.

Inserting soul particles inside the weapon hardened the azure-blue blade, increased its sharpness and it caused the surrounding temperature to plummet as a freezing chill was naturally released by the Dragontale Twin Sabers upon inserting soul particles inside them.

Zayn could tell that he could use the Dragontale Twin Sabers with high versatility in all kinds of battles. They emphasized speed and agility, and could be paired up with other kinds of weapons as well. However, Zayn didn't even think of replacing one of the Dragontale Twin Sabers with another weapon. It felt that they belonged with one another and it made him feel as if he could generate a higher combat prowess as long as they were kept together.

When Zayn was done playing around with his new weapons, he sheathed them in the complementary scabbards Titan had given them. He looked satisfied but also a little sad to part with the Dragontale Twin Sabers. However, he hadn't even known that the Twin Saber were still with him, in the first place.

Thus, it was not too much of a sting in his heart to give them to the person he presumed to be their rightful owner.

Merlin was also pretty interested in the Dragontale Twin Sabers. He hadn't said a word since Zayn recited the poem that seemed to be written on them, but now he could finally share his opinion about the Twin Sabers.

"I think the Dragontale Twin Sabers can be considered Artifacts. But you can activate and deactivate them by inserting more soul particles. That means you shouldn't activate them until you fight the Chimera in the Colosseum, otherwise, you will make it a lot harder for yourself in the Colosseum challenge."

Zayn nodded his head before he turned silent. Merlin didn't seem as talkative as before now that they had left the Weaponsmith's Shop. There seemed to be lots of thoughts flashing through his mind. Something was bothering Merlin but it was not Zayn's business to pry into the Adventurer's privacy and nag him needlessly. Thus, Zayn didn't say a thing. He just followed behind Merlin while studying the one-armed man who would soon teach him the Double Saber Kalivan technique.

"You were pretty lucky earlier, do you even know that?" Merlin asked all of a sudden after they had walked in silence for a few minutes.

"What do you mean?" Zayn responded, unsure what Merlin was talking about.

"Titan is also an Orphan. He built up everything on his own. Though he learned one or two forging techniques from his master, Titan always said that his master was barely there to teach him anything. That means he is mostly self-taught and got to where he is right now through his own effort."

Zayn wasn't aware of that, and things made a lot more sense now that he thought about it.

"Just out of curiosity, what would have happened to me if I weren't that 'lucky'?" Zayn asked but Merlin just shrugged his shoulders.

"You would probably be dead."

"That's…interesting…"

"Indeed."
