Chapter 67 The Village
"Can I stay…for…a few weeks?" Zayn asked weekly while struggling to remain standing in front of an inconspicuous cottage.
He was not actually sure how much time had passed but it was a huge struggle for Zayn to walk through the wilderness until he finally found a village.
The village was one of the few small villages that he didn't want to destroy by running through them when the Undead were pursuing him. He had taken a big detour to save the village from needless harm and he was glad that he had done it. The atmosphere of the village was much better than expected. It was bustling, people were working hard to maintain their standard of living and businesses, and they were gossiping freely. Everyone knew each other and the strong bond of the community could be clearly sensed.
Thus, it was only obvious to look at the newcomer in suspicion, especially when the newcomer was drenched in his own blood and swaying from left to right, limping his way through the village on his search for a place to stay and rest. The village was surrounded by field and pastures with a small forest nearby, but Zayn paid no heed to any of that.
The only reason why he had yet to collapse was the sheer unbreakable willpower that allowed him to reach the large thatched-roof cottage where someone had led him. The young girl who had led him there had taken pity on him, and she then led him to her grandfather's cottage.
"Are you sure that you don't need any bandages, or someone to tend to your wounds? You are in a really bad condition, you know?" The young girl asked, looking at his blood-soaked appearance while trying hard to hide her shock and complicated emotions.
"A bucket of water is everything I need right now…some food would be great for tomorrow, if you could do that for me I would be really grateful," Zayn replied weakly, trying his best to sound fine and as if his wounds were not as bad as they looked like. He retrieved a small pouch from his expanding pouch and handed it to the young girl.
A few silver coins and more than 30 copper coins were inside the pouch. It was only a small bit of the fortune he made from looting Jarick's wealth and possessions, but it was more than enough to be considered an annual salary for the villagers.
The young girl trembled at the sight of the fortune and she was about to return it to Zayn when she saw how difficult it was for him to stand in front of the cottage's gates. Thus, the young girl quickly opened the gate before she helped him to lie down on a big pile of hay. Afterward, she rushed to her grandfather to convince him that it was necessary to help Zayn a little more and tend to his wounds. She even showed her grandfather the fortune he had handed her for the help she offered.
The grandfather, who had contemplated a long time before allowing Zayn to sleep in the cottage, looked at the worry in his granddaughter's eyes before he chose to listen to her and finally offer Zayn a helping hand. Someone who was able to repay gratitude with even more gratitude couldn't be a bad person. The grandfather didn't expect the bloodied and disheveled young man to possess such a great fortune, let alone that he would be willing to give up his entire fortune for the help he had received.
Thus, the grandfather went to the pharmacists of the village and asked them for some medicines and help. The pharmacist of the village was a simple old man. He was a Normie with almost nonexistent talent when it came to sensing the soul particles in his surroundings. However, his knowledge was nothing to scoff at. He had learned a lot, and was considered a valuable asset in the village even if he was a Normie.
The girl's grandfather was one of the only people who rarely asked for the pharmacist's help. Hence, it was a great surprise for everyone to hear that he asked the pharmacist to tend to the young man's wounds, and the news quickly spread through the village like wildfire.
The pharmacist didn't think long before he prepared a few things to tend to Zayn's wounds. He didn't know the origin of the young man's wounds which was why he stuffed his bag with everything that may be needed.
But what he didn't expect to see in the cottage was a half-unconscious young man who was trying to tend to his own wounds by bandaging them with black bandages. Zayn swayed from left to right while trying hard to grasp the bandages and tie them around the wounds tightly. His weapons were long since stored in the expanding storage which was why Zayn ended up looking like a young man who had been hunted down by the Undead and managed to escape by a hair's breadth.
"You need to clean your wounds first, otherwise, you will get infected!" The pharmacist shouted in alarm the moment he regained his senses. Zayn barely heard the pharmacist and turned his head into the old man's direction. He lost his balance and slumped down to the floor and stayed there, unable to get up. Zayn's expression was blank just like his mind.
His mind was rattling, trying to control the raging soul particles inside his body, but that was easier said than done. His inside felt as if a blazing inferno was raging, reaching every cell in his body. It required tremendous focus to control the soul particles to prevent tearing his body apart this instant. Thus, Zayn seemed a little airheaded to the pharmacist who was trying to examine Zayn's condition and problems.
He cleaned Zayn's wounds, removed his clothes, and started to treat him without saying a word. The pharmacist also noticed that Zayn was a Normie just like him. It brought a sad smile to his lips before he returned to his work quietly.
Zayn was trying to annex the ownerless soul particles within him as quickly as possible, but he could tell that it would take a few days before his heart would have finished annexing every bit of soul particles around him.
Until then, he would have a hard time.
Zayn didn't expect the ownerless soul particles of Jarick to be that potent. If not for his willpower and quick thinking to forcefully suppress the potent soul particles, he would be dead by now.
The thought of dying because of a weird reason such as the overload of soul particles was ridiculous but it could have happened to Zayn.
He realized that and understood very well that things had to change.
However, for now, he had to rest and recover!
