Chapter 66 Resurrected
Zayn squinted his eyes as he stared at Jarick's unmoving body.
It was quite obvious that Jarick should be dead because there was no way that someone could survive the type of injury the Blessed had sustained. His entire head was burned, his rotten arm had fallen off of his shoulder and his body was riddled with several gaping holes. He was still bleeding severely but that was not something Zayn considered odd. After all, his left hand had been cut off not too long ago.
'There is no Soul Wisp!' Zayn noticed quite quickly and it was not long after that he was distracted for a moment as a handful of the remaining Goblin Skeletons attacked him. He ended them quickly, just to see that Jarick, or what was left of him, was struggling to get up from the ground.
"You really did it…you are about to abandon your humanity, if you were ever human, to begin with," Zayn said as he looked at the struggling figure of the being that was once the human Jarick.
He could tell that Jarick have given up on his life as a living being and that he was ready to become an Undead to complete his mission, yet, Zayn felt as if Jarick was still hanging somewhere in between, that he was neither alive nor completely dead. He was not yet an Undead but he was not alive either.
He was not sure why exactly he thought like that but the way Jarick writhed, how he struggled to take a single step forward, and the simple fact that he was even able to move, to begin with, suggested that Jarick was not only in tremendous pain which restricted his movements but also that he was already an Undead in some ways.
There were two gaping holes in Jarick's chest, but they didn't reveal the Core of the Undead that was supposed to be hidden behind the rib cage. On the contrary, Zayn presumed that he saw faint, almost untraceable movements around the area of the Berserk Blessed's heart! It was still beating, though weakly.
Zayn had no idea what else it would need to take Jarick down and finish him for good when he noticed something. Rather than focusing their attacks on Zayn as the sole target, the remaining Undeads seemed to be attracted by the Berserk Blessed as well. They approached Jarick with vigilance and drilled their stone spears inside his flesh.
"With the loss of your arm, you have also lost control of the Undead?" He asked himself, mumbling while trying to figure out what was actually going on. Jarick's stigma had been on his right arm. The arm had been rotten, which was also the primary reason for it falling off so easily. However, Jarick's right arm had also been the host of his strongest power, the connection to his God, and the powers he had been granted from his God.
Seeing Jarick in his weakest form after being deprived of the connection to his God, and being unable to defend himself properly against the incoming attacks made the corners of Zayn's lips curl upward.
He took a step forward, accessed his expanding pouch, and retrieved a few potions which he downed without a sign of hesitation before he bent down to pick up the silver iron shortsword. His body was overflowing with soul particles as his entire power was being replenished thanks to the high efficiency of the Basic Potions he drank just a moment ago.
Zayn unleashed the Soulblades around both of his weapons' blades and he rushed forward before he would be too late to reap what was supposed to belong to him, in the first place.
His eyes were ice-cold as he encountered hollow eyesockets of the Skull that stared straight at him. Jarick was not even able to hear or see anything anymore, yet he could sense that his Grim Reaper was coming for him exactly from the direction he was staring at. He lifted his left arm slowly in an attempt to block the incoming attack, only to end up feeling pain for the last time in his life.
Zayn had used one of the Goblin Skeletons as a launching pad and a means to further increase his momentum to pierce the silver iron shortsword deep inside the Berserk Blessed, who had caused lots of trouble to him by greedily following the orders of his God.
The appearance of the Undead was a nuisance, something Zayn would have rather avoided. Thus, it was only obvious that he made some gains from the hard work of others! To make sure that he would be able to devour the ownerless soul particles from Jarick's Soul Wisp, Zayn didn't hesitate to twist the silver iron shortsword when the blade pierced through Jarick's heart. At the same time, he slashed the saber that was mantled in a golden semi-translucent membrane at the neck of the Blessed, whom he beheaded with the use of his entire strength.
Jarick's Skull rolled over the ground while the rest of his body collapsed with a dull thud. Meanwhile, Zayn pushed his body away from the Berserk Blessed, making sure that no sudden or surprise attack could reach him.
He scrambled away from Jarick's corpse quickly and in his haste stumbled upon one of the many Goblin Skeletons that attacked Jarick before but didn't pay much attention to them. Zayn destroyed the Goblin Skeleton behind him with a single swipe of his Saber while focusing on Jarick's body.
If the Blessed was able to resurrect once, it wouldn't be surprising to see him arise from the ashes of his body like a phoenix.
Fortunately, that was not the case and his Soul Wisp emerged from the Blessed's headless body. Zayn didn't hesitate to jump forward and run through the Soul Wisp, taking the ownerless soul particles inside his body like a starved wolf.
He devoured everything in the blink of an eye before he used the following seconds to kill the remaining two dozen Undead. Afterward, his eyesight turned blurry, his skin burst open and his entire body began to ache tremendously. But that was something Zayn had expected to happen. After all, his entire body was flooded by the remaining soul particles of a being that could create its second Soulring.
Meanwhile, he was not even in possession of a single Soulring.
Of course, that was about to change pretty soon!
