Chapter 108 The Gambler
The receptionists continued to attempt to convince Zayn that his life was more important than the opportunity to earn some money and fame.
They tried their utmost to discourage him from challenging the Colosseum but they failed miserably.
At the end of the day, there was only that much the receptionists could do. They had to accept Zayn's decision.
He was registered for the Colosseum's Challenge after his Status as a Normie was confirmed. The number of his Soulrings, his Age, and a few more other details had to be registered as well but that was something Zayn had been informed by Merlin beforehand.
The Colosseum would prepare a fight for the following day, using his stats and displaying some advertisements to attract spectators and make sure that enough people would bet on the fight.
His opponent would be chosen until afternoon and the betting would start afterward with pre-designated multiplicators prepared for the challenge.
Zayn hoped that he would have to fight a strong monster, something everyone would consider as a lethal threat to anyone below the Soul Knight rank. That way, nobody would bet on his survival, let alone believe that he was capable of defeating it.
With a total of 84 silver coins and 32 copper coins left in his pockets, Zayn was ready to go all in. Obviously, he would choose the highest multiplicator, while keeping in mind to earn a vast fortune and enrage the management.
"Can I ask two questions?" Zayn asked the receptionists who looked at him with a mixture of pity and guilt. They pressed their lips together while looking at the cute Normie, who seemed to be too innocent and naive to be living as a Normie in this harsh world.
"Ask us anything!" One of them replied, trying to prevent her eyes from getting too watery.
"Is it normal for participants to get a room to rest?" Zayn asked the first question before adding the second in a quieter voice, "...and is the bright blond-haired guy who feels like a former Adventurer the manager of the Colosseum?"
The first question was related to the key he obtained from the receptionists. In the basement of the Colosseum were a bunch of rooms with one of them having the lock of the key he was holding in his hand.
"Yes, it's quite normal. You will also get three warm meals a day and if you're injured the Colloseum's Medic will come and take a look at you!" The receptionist to the left answered before the woman to the right added, "The brightly smiling man you talked about is probably Manager Tilan. He is a former C-rank Adventurer with two Soulrings. Rumors say that he was on the verge of becoming a B-rank Adventurer before he suddenly quit a few years ago."
Zayn nodded his head, thanking the two receptionists before he left the Colosseum. The key he had obtained also identified him as a challenger of the Colosseum. The Guards wouldn't cause any trouble to him. With that in mind, he strolled through the city of Zerek for a few hours. He had nothing special to do right now, but he didn't want to stay inside the Colosseum either. That place made him feel uneasy and repulsed. He didn't want to stay there longer than he needed to.
Thus, he only returned in the evening when his fight with the Blazing Sabertooth Tiger had been announced.
The Blazing Sabertooth Tiger was a monster with one completed Soulring and a second Soulring that was about to be completed. At least it would have been able to complete the second Soulring if not for its racial limits. It was also the same monster that had killed the other Normie within three seconds in the morning by breathing fire on its opponent, which was quite interesting.
'Is the Blazing Sabertooth Tiger the most popular monster for starters, or is it just never certain whether the Normies fighting the tiger will survive the first three seconds or not?' Zayn wondered while taking a look at the betting multiplicators of his challenge.
He was not the only one present at the Colosseum's Gambling Ceasaria but he was the only person interested in the multiplicators related to his survival.
There were various multiplicators. They were related to how quickly the Blazing Sabertooth Tiger would kill him, how long Zayn could survive against the ferocious monster, and also bets that were related to his chances of winning against the Blazing Sabertooth Tiger.
He took note of the highest multiplicator the moment he saw the big golden number that was directly written next to the condition he would have to meet for this bet to be considered won.
"If I defeat it within one minute, I can multiply my fortune by…108 times…." Zayn mumbled in astonishment, rubbing his eyes to make sure that he was not imagining things.
He let out a groan and rubbed his eyes, "Are they serious?"
All multiplicators related to his victory were extremely high, which only meant that nobody expected him to win. At least that was what Zayn had assumed, feeling pretty sure that everyone would bet on his death the moment they heard that he was 14 years old. There were many Normie teenagers trying to change their fate, but none had succeeded until now.
That didn't mean Zayn was any different, but it made him wonder if the Colosseum was making big money from the fees that had to be paid for every bet, or if they earned their biggest fortune somewhere else.
No matter what, Zayn wanted to extort the Colosseum. Thus, he retrieved his entire fortune and handed it to the same young man who had handled the drunk and rude spectators with a calm and composed mind.
"I want to bet 84 silver coins and 32 copper coins on the 108x multiplicator. The Challenger will defeat the Blazing Sabertooth Tiger within a minute!" He announced confidently.
A few people looked at him with flabbergasted expressions. It was nothing uncommon for the challengers to bet on their own survival. They would bet their whole fortune on their victory to make quick money and ensure that they would become rich upon leaving the Colosseum alive. Dead, their money had no value to them either way. Thus, it was quite common for the challenger to bet their whole fortune on themself.
However, not many were willing to bet on being able to win within a single minute with their whole fortune at that. The pressure they would feel the moment the battle started was not good, and it would lead them to make mistakes to frantically seal their victory.
Furthermore, no one desperate enough to participate in the Colosseum's challenge had a fortune of 84 silver coins and 32 copper coins, in the first place.
Was it really necessary for Zayn to participate in the Colosseum's challenge if he had that much money?
What exactly was he planning to do?!
