Chapter 3: A Rare Skill (2)
After stopping behind the door that led to the kitchen and refectory, Luke began to breathe deeply, and then he tried to check the HUD on the left corner of his vision.

“Oh, this is good… all my energy is restored upon leveling up, just like a game,” Luke smiled and then frowned. “I am not dreaming… am I?”
Based on what he saw, each level up would grant Luke two points in HP, MP, and SP. While his other status seemed pretty pathetic, he was realistic enough to recognize that he had close to zero athletic skills. It was almost a miracle that he went to college with his high school curriculum. Regardless, now he has more important things to consider… for example, what each stat could do?
“Considering that Weapon Augmentation relies mostly on my strength, increasing it seems like the wisest choice here,” Luke muttered. “Not to mention, it will help me fight when my mana reaches the bottom… still, I think focus is the most important one.”
After thinking for a minute, Luke realized that he recovered a single point of SP. Focus was probably related to that, to his energy regeneration. Having high strength would be fine for most situations, but fighting consumes stamina as well. So, ignoring his regeneration speed didn’t seem like a good idea.
To make things as efficient as possible, Luke divided the status points putting three into strength and two into focus. After that, he slowly opened the door of the refectory. While it was Sunday, the kitchen ladies were still there, and they looked more scary than usual since they had become zombies.
“I thought that only lazy idiots like me got unlucky, but I guess I was wrong…” Luke said while looking at the women’s white uniform stained with the red of blood.
Plenty of students who don’t have much money eating at the refectory on Sundays, so all the five kitchen ladies were roaming around. Luke could see some common knives on the ground, but he wouldn’t be able to get them without alerting the zombies. Aside from the five kitchen ladies, there are five other zombies, so it seemed that Luke would have to work a lot and risk his neck to obtain a supply of weapons.
“Maybe I should go up and check the remaining rooms, if zombies didn’t leave those until now, they must be from them…” Luke thought.
While Luke was thinking of what to do, he suddenly heard a loud bam coming from the refectory. When he went to check by opening the door a little bit, Luke heard some scream and then some guys around his age running away. They probably thought that they could hide inside the building but got surprised by the zombies. Regardless, thanks to their noise, the zombies began to move toward the exit. While feeling bad about these guys (not really) and being thankful for them at the same time, Luke approached and grabbed the knives on the floor.
As if they had felt Luke’s presence, the zombie kitchen ladies returned and walked directly at him. However, Luke didn’t get fazed by them. He readied the five knives and quickly fired them using Weapon Augmentation.

“Lucky me I don’t have to Aim… I just have to look at the target,” Luke showed a surprised smile while looking at the corpses in front of him.
If it weren’t for that, Luke probably would try to find another way to fight. In any case, Luke noticed that the boost in strength made the attacks even more fearsome… the back of the zombie’s head has been completely destroyed. Luke felt bad for his actions a little bit…
Without wasting any more time, Luke approached the kitchen and checked all the compartments. He found twenty knives, and that assured him that he would have plenty of ammo for a while. After using a bag that was lying around to store the knives, Luke wondered if he could get some food from there, but he decided against it. Pretty much everything was dirty with blood.
“There is a supermarket nearby… I am bound to find food there that hasn’t been touched by zombies in any way,” Luke nodded to himself. “Probably…”
The plan to make the dorms safer had been abandoned because Luke couldn’t hear any noise coming from above. So, he couldn’t gain experience and coins by killing zombies. There was no point in checking. Since most students were broke, they probably didn’t have many useful things. Another thing that made Luke decide that was the fact that carrying too many things would make him slower.
“I should be able to find some knives in the supermarket as well… I should stay there and grind some levels while I can,” Luke thought.
With some knives in their hands, Luke headed to the exit while making sure to pay attention to all noise coming from outside. He could hear some grunts and some screams in the distance. It seemed that there was a considerable number of zombies nearby. That seemed like a trouble since Luke would have to walk for two blocks to reach the supermarket… Regardless, he didn’t have any other choice. However, when he was about to open the exit…
“Wait, you shouldn’t leave now,”
When Luke turned around, he saw a small red thing that was no bigger than his fist in front of him. The little thing had a woman’s voice, and it was flying like a fairy. Even though it had red-brown skin, it was also wearing some type of bikini armor and had pointy ears… Luke frowned when he saw a dark elf that had long red hair flying in front of him.
“I guess that rejection really messed with my head…” Luke said while blinking.
