Surviving the Apocalypse While Being Tempted by an Elf and a Dark Elf

Chapter 2: A Rare Skill (1)

Chapter 2: A Rare Skill (1)

Luke grabbed his cellphone while he changed his clothes. His pop culture knowledge told him that he couldn’t stay indoors for long if people were turning into zombies at that moment. It also told him that he had to protect his neck and arms, but unfortunately, there wasn’t anything in the room that he could use for that. On the other hand, he found a baseball bat lying around. He didn’t know, but it seemed that one of his roommates practiced it.

“Great… no signal,” Luke muttered.

The campus wifi wasn’t working either, so Luke couldn’t contact the outside world. To make things worse, his parents were on a trip to Europe… how are they going to return if those zombies appeared there as well?

“One problem at a time…” Luke muttered. “First of all, let’s see if I can rely on this skill,” Luke said while holding the bat with both hands.

Now that Luke thought about it, the door was closed… So how did the zombie enter? By some kind of magic like the knife? That was another thing Luke could find out later. Since it was Sunday, he couldn’t hear much noise coming from the other rooms in the Male dormitory… Still, when he opened the door, he saw a zombie on his left side. Unfortunately, the creature also noticed him.

Luke just thought of using the skill, but before he could say the name, he felt energy passing through the weapon… his energy. When the creature got close enough, Luke swung the bat at a speed that he couldn’t believe and then hit the zombie’s head… his attack smashed it completely, but it also destroyed his weapon.

“What the…” Luke frowned. “Is the skill so powerful that weak weapons can’t endure it?”

Much to Luke’s annoyance, the attack made a lot of noise, and two other zombies came from the next room. That was bad, so Luke immediately grabbed his knife and prepared to fight. If he uses the skill, he should be fine even against those two. He knew that the speed he would gain was that impressive. However, when he activated the skill again, the energy in the knife made it fly directly toward the nearest zombie’s head. It pierced deeply and killed the creature, but the weapon broke as well.

“Are you fucking kidding me?” Luke asked. “The skill turns all weapons into disposable projectiles?”

Although that made Luke feel pretty pathetic, he returned to the bedroom. The zombie followed him, but as soon as the creature entered the room, Luke welcomed it with a stab in its mouth. Weirdly enough, even a broom was a weapon on Luke’s hand now that he could use Weapon Augmentation.

“While this skill destroys everything, it also turns everything into a weapon… what is this?” Luke asked while looking into a small bottle on the side of the corpse.

Small Mana Potion

It restores twenty points of mana.

“Nice… this will be useful since I really need mana to use the skill,” Luke smiled in relief. “Still, I need weapons to use that skill…”

Luke was confident that he could find some knives lying around in the other rooms. If he received one, everyone else should have obtained it as well. However, those rooms will have at least two zombies…

“Where I can find weapons…. ah, the kitchen!” Luke nodded to himself. “There are plenty of knives there. With those, I will be able to grind and make the dormitory a bit more secure.”

Luke planned to leave and look for somewhere easier to fight, but perhaps he didn’t have to. He was on the second floor, and the kitchen was right below. So, he won’t have to waste too much time walking around.

“Still, before that… maybe I can use those scissors,” Luke said after looking around for a while. “Weapons that look like knives will probably keep me safe alongside Weapon Augmentation.”

Luke still had no idea why his knife flew before, but he assumed it was just the nature of the skill. Nevertheless, he went to the other room where the zombies left, and there he found another bat and a single knife. After looking to the side, he saw that the window was broken… apparently, it had two people there, but one jumped when two zombies appeared.

“Not my problem… Let’s move silently downstairs,” Luke muttered.

After crossing the corridor, Luke found a group of zombies leaving another bedroom. He couldn’t ignore those since right behind them there were the stairs to the kitchen. In the end, Luke used Weapon Augmentation on the scissors, and it worked just as he had expected, the zombie’s brain was easily pierced, and the object cracked. When the next one came, Luke did the same with the knife. Another zombie kicked the bucket… if that was possible.

Congratulations! You have leveled up and obtained five status points.

Unfortunately, Luke didn’t have time to check or distribute those. The remaining zombie was approaching, and without mana, Luke had to face it directly. That was within his plans, though. He needed to see how much damage he could cause while not relying on Weapon Augmentation.

When the arms of the creature approached, Luke swung the bat with all his might, and he managed to break them at the same time. That had been easier than he had expected… Still, the zombie still raised the broken arms.

With a full swing, Luke hit the monster’s stomach, and when its body bent forward, Luke finished it off with a downward strike aimed at the thing’s head.

The weapon didn’t break, but the impact made quite a lot of noise, so Luke went to the stairs without catching his break.
