Chapter 130: The Dinner
Chapter 130: The Dinner
"If you suspect something is up then it most likely is," the old man answered while cleaning his glasses.
Sol grimaces at it as he thought so too, usually what people fear comes true, Sol fears that the city lord was suspicious about them and wants to make sure about it.
Be guessed that the city lord had his suspicion but the was not sure about it, if they met with him there is a big chance that the city lord would know their origin,
"Is there any way for us to decline the invite? we are quite busy and would need to leave the city soon," Sol asked the old man as the old man knew the city lord better than him and the other.
The old man stopped cleaning his glasses and looked at him, "there is one way to decline, but do you think you can pay the price?" he asked seriously.
"What is it?" Sol asked in question as he was ready to pay any price, anything other than meeting the city lord as meeting him would be similar to seeking death.
"I can persuade the city lord to let you go, but you will need to do something for me," he started.
"In two days there will be an ownerless mini-world open, there is a lot of resource in it but there will also be a lot of people and creatures going there, I want you to protect someone in there, of course, you need to take a vow before I can tell you the detail," the old man explained.
Sol got a frown on his face, "Why me? Won't there be a lot of people better for the job? Why not choose minor demigods?" he asked in doubt.
The old man shook his head, "The mini-world somehow only allows lesser demigod level people and creatures in, but the problem comes from the native creature most of them are lesser demi-titans and minor demi-titans," he told Sol honestly.
"Fuck!" Sol cursed in his head as fighting multiple demi-titan would surely kill him, he could not even fight one minor demi-titan, if he was going to meet one then he would surely die.
"How is that better than meeting the city lord?" Sol asked the old man.
"From the way you talk, there is a high chance of you being killed by the city lord if you meet him, he must have wanted something from you," the old man looked at him with a sharp eye behind his glasses.
"If you go to the mini-world you could possibly survive and become a minor demigod, with the ability you had shown in the colosseum, I believe you have a decent chance of surviving there," he persuaded Sol.
"Ughh... I'm not sure what if the city lord only wants to have dinner with us?" Sol asked hesitantly.
"Well we can just wait for the city lord to catch you, when that happens you can tell him that Tobi old man wants to talk with him," the old man said as he signed him up.
Seeing the old man no longer had time to talk with him, Sol joined Jennie to get back to their room, both of them went back to talk with Tea and the other.
"And that's what happened," Sol told Tea and the other about what the old man had told him.
"That did not change our plan, Tom and I would still wait outside the city in case the city lord did not stop even after hearing the old man's name," Tea said.
"As for going to that mini world, it's up to the four of you if you want to take the chance to be a minor demigod, I will wait for you to return if you decide to go, having more minor demigods would increase our survival chance," She discussed with them.
"If you guys are going then so am I," Tom declared, "I don't want to be left out when you guys get stronger."
"You sure? The risk is quite big you know?" Jennie looked at him.
"I'm sure, it is not set yet though, if the city lord actually just wants to talk with you guys then we would not need to go to such a place," he tried to ease the situation.
"For now we should go and buy the maps, we don't have time after dinner," Tea said as she picked up the bag of money from the table.
It did not take them long to buy information and maps from the black market, they went directly to the last ship they visited.
The time for the dinner party finally comes, Sol and the other two get ready to meet the only major demigod in the city.
When they reached the city lord mansion, they were greeted by two guards, each of them was a minor demigod level powerhouse.
"Even these two guards could mop us with ease, if we went in then we would not be able to escape" they lamented as they walked into the mansion.
The guard led them through a green crystal corridor, it did not take long for them to reach the dining hall.
They were alarmed because the first thing they saw when they got into the dining hall was a giant flaming hound looking at them with a sharp eye.
"Don't be alarmed, you can come in, it would not bite," a man's voice could be heard from the dining table.
When Sol looked at the source of the voice, he saw a man in green crystal armor waiting for them at the dining table.
"Come, come, take a seat," he beacons them toward the chairs in front of him, Sol and the other could only obey the man as they recognized the city lord.
It was the first time they met directly face to face, the city lord has dark green hair and eyes, he looks kind but his aura was saying otherwise.
Once they took their seat the city lord signed a maid to bring the food in, the table soon got filled with all kinds of delicacy.
"Before we start the dinner I should congratulate you guys for your performance, it was really commendable," he praises them
"You three are exceptional individuals, I'm quite interested with Ice Warrior here, you could push this stupid dog to break the restriction I put on it," He continued while leering at Sol.
"It was nothing Sir, I was just lucky, I was beaten senseless once it turned to its true form," Sol said modestly as to not attract too much attention.
"The thing is, This stupid dog told me that he did not break the restriction I put on it, It said you somehow break it with some sort of ability," the city lord's eyes turn sharp at Sol, "it's quite an interesting ability, there is not much who could break it without being a Major demigod or being the one under restriction himself."
The situation turned tense as Sol was sweating nonstop, even Harry and Jennie had a bad feeling about this talk.
After a few seconds of silence, the city lord suddenly brightened up, he laughed and said, "hahaha... Sorry I was just curious, how about we have a drink to ease down the situation?"
Sol and the others could finally let go of the breath they unknowingly held, they were too tense waiting for the man's reaction.
Once the city lord signs toward the maid, She brings a pot of water and pours it on each of their glasses, once finished she leaves them alone.
Sol and the other two looked at the water in shock, they had a bad feeling from it, their intuition telling them that it was nothing good.
The city lord drinks the water without problem, he finishes the water like nothing was wrong with it.
Sol's brain was going on overdrive trying to make sense of the situation, it seems that his two friends also have the same feeling.
It would not be good for them not to drink it but they were really reluctant to drink it, if they drink then something bad would happen if they don't then the city lord would be suspicious.
"Fuck, if only I know what is wrong with this water," Sol thought.
"What are you guys waiting for? You can drink," the City lord jollily said.
"It's a glass of the best Styx water that I collected myself just this morning, it would not disappoint you," he continued.
Before Sol and the others could react, the city lord's jolly expression suddenly turned serious, "Or you can not drink this Styx water, isn't that right visitor from the mortal realm?" he said with a sharp look.
Heavy presence suddenly slammed on Sol's and the other's shoulder, they could feel the man's power was beyond their reach.
Green emerald crystals started to appear around them, conjured by the major demigod.
"Fuck! He did not let us talk at all," Sol cursed in his heart as he could not even open his mouth.
