Chapter 18: Side characters

A long time ago, in the distant past, an unexpected drought had begun. The people of that time along with its players tried their hardest to ensure that their trials would give them anything. They'll bet their lives to get rid of this crisis, while a few of them prayed to the Game masters and deities for their mercy. The others started to make any means to survive as they dive into the forbidden section of the trials stealing a crop that they thought would help their world. Only to find themselves rotting away as their body turned into hideous monsters. That nourishes themselves upon their kin uninfected kin

[System: The trial has commenced the deities can now stream the broadcasting]

"Thus the age of the seed of gluttony was unleashed by the people themselves," He pointed his dagger as the infected humans rallied towards him

Using haste he enhanced his movements that dodged their attacks while he examined their moves. Even though he can kill them with a swing of his dagger he never thought of doing so. His enemy wasn't something that he could easily underestimate. Which made him focus on their movements with a closer and safer set of movements that were made possible. By the use of his skill, when he was finished jumps on top of a tree

[Why aren't you killing them?]

Morris pointed out that there were some of them hiding near his previous location. Revealing that they maintained a few of their intelligence. And a few of them were infected players of the past. That has higher levels compared to his avatar

"You saw that right? They're still a little piece of their brains left for them to cooperate. I need to reserve my energy for later, I don't know what I'll encounter apart from that. It's best to play it safe before I try anything that'll hinder our plans," Morris said as jumps from the tree to another

[Isn't leveling up a top priority]

"It is but finding my teammates is something that I can't pass up," Just when he was about to jump into another tree. Without any kind of warning, his feet were pierced. By a powerful arrow, that was released into his blindspot. Without a second before his body could react, he closed his mouth and covered it with his hand. Sealing his screams whilst he continues to suffer from the pain that the arrow has inflicted

[What was that?]

"It's a fucking arrow!!! Can't you see? Arrgh I got a motherfucking arrow stuck in my feet!!!!? Who the hell shot that!!!?" By the time he broke free from the rage that his body had produced. He gazes into the area where the arrow was launched. Afraid of having another one come in his direction. He only looked for a second when he sees a figure closer to that of a human

'It's a player? Are they here to Pk me? I just killed someone 5 days ago, I guess this will be a routine of mine. Oh goody, you know what they say, those that shoot you with an arrow are already a good reason to kill someone. From my observations, they haven't spotted me let's use this knowledge to launch an attack,''

After he healed his wounded leg he made a loud noise in the opposite direction to distract the player. Thinking that they landed a finishing blow on Morris, he sneaks upon the player whilst casting an earth array to the ground. Making it shake, causing them to panic amongst themselves, he takes his time and prepares the finishing touches for his plan. With everything in place, he controls a portion of the dirt and latches it into his adversary. Apart from the dirt, the array manages to control a few stones in the mix, just in case they try to escape. Like one of the players did only to get their stomach stimulated by Morris's mana-imbued fist

"You better have a good explanation why I got hit by that fucking arrow," With only a little of the patience that dwells inside his body. He hesitated and only pointed his dagger at one of the player's neck

"It was an accident we thought... yo...ou were-," The girl said struggling to talk

"Hold on for a moment... Now is that better? I've loosened up my spell that was residing in your neck, now talk if you don't want this dagger inside your throat,"

"I didn't know it was a person... I'm sorry I didn't mean to strike you," The girl said while her restraints were placed back in their original post

[Should we trust what she said or kill her and take her items? There wouldn't be any kind of problems, plus she doesn't look like she's from a guild. We don't have to worry if you're concerned with that kind of problem]

'This is a tough one to figure out, should I use my appraisal to check their names? Fuck it, there's no reason why I shouldn't use my skills right? Plus their talents are quite intriguing, I might find something that'll answer my question. Plus, I need to get a move on, Esther and Kyo min soo must have been searching for my location. Let's get this over with,'

Plus that guy has monstrous stats. I don't want to be his enemy. Even though he's pretty weak in this storyline, no one could easily match him in strength,'

He canceled the earth array that releases the three of them altogether. After realizing the name of one of the players, he wasn't interested in the identity of the two. Since he already has a very high guess about their identity. Before anything was to occur, he tried to flee before he gets involved with his side characters

"I'll give you a warning, but there won't be a second chance if you strike me again," Sheathing his daggers back to his scabbard, he was about to escape. Until he was stopped by the voice of his side character

"Wait, can you join us?" Yoona said while the two were shocked when they heard about her plans

"Are you insane? you're gonna let this guy in our temporary alliance," The guy said with a furious tone behind his words

"I know Gale's not the best one to be our vanguard but he's trying his best and I agree with him," The girl said as she picks herself up after she got out of the rock

"You're not the one who decides what can and what can't happen to our alliance. Shin, Gale aren't you guys the ones who are fixated on turning me into the captain? If I am the one who's calling the shots, then I respect it if you agree with my choices," Yoona takes a step toward Morris after she patched up the injury Shin has gained from Morris's punch

'Shin Chaerim, Cha Yoona, and lastly Gale khan, these guys were his teammates. When the trials started Hugo got separated from Yoona. Later the two of them are reunited alongside these two that's comparable to a bundle pack of allies. Damn it, I need to help them. I remembered killing someone inside this vanilla group. Why vanilla? Not one of them even has a taste of killing someone with their own hands, anyway to save that dying person, Hugo needs to do something dangerous, I can't let that guy die, since this is the real world. There's a chance that he will die,'

"Tell me, why would I team up with you three, One of you tried to kill me," He said with a cold gaze that was aimed toward the three side characters

"We'll help yo-" Yoona was suddenly interrupted by a rampaging infected that pounced on her blindside. Before it could even touch a single hair within her body. It was already subdued when it was struck by a disposable dagger imbued with mana. Where its origins came from the white-haired player standing in front of them

"Help me? You guys can't even sense something like this," Before he could say any more than he could have uttered. The four of them were surrounded by a dozen or so infected. That was drawn by the sound they emitted

'Shit they were lured by the fire!! Damn it, that guy didn't give any important information about the trials to his ally. You could've even just hinted to keep their fucking mouths shut! Hugo you irresponsible main character... It looks like I need to get a good smack on his face if I ever met him in person,'

[System: The deities are currently spectating the players plagued with a life-threatening situation]

'This is perfect I'll use this as an excuse,'

"You want me to be in your alliance right?" Morris gazes at his character that nodded in agreement to his question

"Then get up, if I see that you're capable I'll join you without a word of complaint,"

The three of them went into a formation while he uses the remaining time of the earth array. That forms a tiny slope where the three of them were forced to fight the infected with the assistance of their allies

"What's the big idea you fucking idiot!!!" Shin shouted at him after they were placed into such a disadvantageous terrain

"That's your job to survive the coming waves of the. infected in your area. I'll mow away the ones that are coming to me. Best of luck to the three of you adios," He said after he placed the daggers back in his inventory and switched to his staff

'It's been a long time since I've used this, hope that I didn't get rusty with all that dagger training,'

[System: The player Christoper Morris has activated the skill Mana circulation, which grants the player a boost to its stats. Which temporarily increases, attack, speed, defense, and lastly stamina. The stats will increase depending on how much mana has been circulated throughout the body]

The infected attacked him with their advantage of numbers, making him chant and activate haste. While simultaneously launching himself at the infected punching and kicking from every direction and using his staff. To poke and cast spells whenever he was in a tight situation. When he was outnumbered and unable to find an exit, he cast a dozen magic orbs. That we're floating around his body and attacking any kind of danger that reaches a certain range from his body. Whilst his mana was continuously recovering from his breathing he shot down the ones that were hiding in the trees. And continues bashing the infected that were closing into his body

[System: The player Christoper Morris has activated the skill Ignite, the spell is being amplified by adding excess mana]

Conjuring the spell on his staff he created a continuous flow of fire which he swung back and forth. Which burns the rotting bodies of the infected while he searches the area if he allows one of them to escape. When he reached a certain point, he saw a few remaining infected that were on their feet. They were trying to escape in the middle of the chaos. They were unfortunate to meet their end when they were shot with a magic orb. When his hunt came to an end, he arrived at the area where he placed the three

"It's nice to see you again great benefactor,"

[Hey, why aren't you that respectable towards me you even gave her a bow]

"If they're alive I'll fulfill my promise if not then I'll leave without any problems," He was startled when Yoona appeared on his back when he checked the slope alongside the two side characters

"I guess you were talking with your deity, well I'm alive and the two of them as well. You wouldn't go back on your word right?" Yoona said while she displays a big and noticeable grin

Not a single second pass he noticed a message from Yoona inviting him to the temporary party which he agreed with not a single complaint just as he promised
