Chapter 48 Fortune
"So…where are we going now?" Ludwig asked, hoping that Liam was done planning out the next steps of the big plan he had in mind.
However, Liam disappointed the skinny native as he shrugged his shoulders.
"Let's look for a place where we can stay for the night. We shouldn't rush things now that it stopped raining. Monsters will probably flood the city soon, and we shouldn't obstruct them since nobody here is strong enough to deal with strong monsters right now," He said after a while, pointing at the rooftop of the gymnasium.
"Even if they don't want us inside the gymnasium anymore, we can just rest on top. It's pretty warm and more comfortable compared to staying outside."
It was already late afternoon now that Liam finished collecting all corpses belonging to the horde of Plagued Monsters. Nobody dared to steal the corpses or demand anything from Liam. Felix and the other natives retreated inside the gymnasium after a while, trying to come up with a plan to survive the following days without Liam.
While the other natives were mostly against Liam, Felix would have loved to accept the invader back into their group. Not only was Liam powerful but he could teach them a lot, whether it was related to combat, or a plethora of other things.
Liam was a golden goose that had been thrown aside by Felix's foolish people. Felix knew that things were bound to get more difficult now, but there was nothing they could do about it now that it had already happened.
They could only look forward and give their utmost to survive the Arcane Apocalypse.
Meanwhile, Liam and the others were doing exactly the same.
But instead of increasing the distance to the gymnasium, they used the fire escape staircases that could be accessed on the left side of the gymnasium. They climbed up the narrow and winding staircase for a while before they reached the rooftop of the gymnasium.
It was much larger than Liam expected and there was nothing special that attracted his interest.
"I thought there would be more. But that's much better," He mumbled to himself before he sat down on the ground after he found a somewhat clean spot.
The others spent some more time to find a clean spot and they even used some Arcanium to get their hands on a blanket to spread out on the dirty floor and sit on.
Liam thought that it was a waste of money, especially since they didn't have any means to store items yet. The blanket would probably be left behind later. But he did not comment on anything.
"Why did you want to come up here already? We still have some hours of sunlight left. Shouldn't we have gone hunting to accumulate more Arcanium?" Kian pointed out, and both Rex and Felicia nodded their heads in agreement.
"You guys can go down and hunt a bit, but I need to claim the rewards for my missions and figure out how to spend my Arcanium in the most efficient way!" Liam suggested while taking a glance at the Arcanium he earned from selling the Plagued Monsters that had sold out within minutes of being displayed in his shop.
[The Host earned over 1000 Arcanium within the opening hour of his Shop. Achievement『Golden Toad』has been attained, congratulations!]
[50 Arcanum have been rewarded!]
[A total of 1109.9 Arcanium have been transferred to the finances of the Host!]
[Arcanium: 2085]
Liam was obviously satisfied with his gains. The Arcane Apocalypse hadn't started too long ago but he already had a Small Shop, more than 2000 Arcanium, cleared all his previous debt and he had yet to claim the other special rewards from his two missions.
Even the Weapon of Choice was a quite satisfactory reward because he could get his hands on something he might desperately need in the near future, without paying a dime.
"Claim reward, Weapon of Choice!"
[Reward: Weapon of Choice(Black Steel) has been claimed!]
When Liam claimed his reward, his mind entered a white world that was filled with thousands upon thousands of weapons.
His eyes widened at the sight of the Black Steel weapons that were glinting on the smooth and white glistening pillars, beckoning him. He was not sure which one to pick and thought about the weapon he had in mind.
In response to his thoughts, the unsuitable Black Steel weapons seemed to disperse into countless particles while the remaining Black Steel Weapons that were somewhat suitable to the weapon he had in mind inched closer to him.
After he spend two minutes, he picked a weapon, if one could consider it such. The white world spun around and disappeared into thin air as Liam found himself back on top of the gymnasium's rooftop.
Everyone's attention was drawn to him as the Black Steel Weapon of his choice materialized in front of him.
"What's wrong?" He asked when he realized that someone must have asked a question yet he didn't quite catch it.
"Rex asked you how much Arcanium you made from selling corpses, and if you can sell the corpses of the monsters we kill in the future as well," Olivia repeated before she added, "and I asked you why the Nine Realms are suddenly attacking the Earth and why Arcane Power is filling the Earth all of a sudden? There are a few more questions that confuse me, but I think those are the most important questions I have in mind."
Liam looked over to Rex and thought about something for a moment before he answered the native's question.
"I can sell the corpses of the monsters you killed. I will give you guys 30% of the profit. If you don't agree to those terms, I will not sell the corpses you guys provide through my shop. That way you won't make any money." He said, staring a little coldly at Rex, who waved his hand in response to the glare he received.
"Please calm down, I just wanted to make sure that we don't waste the corpses. If you don't want to tell us how much you've made from the Plagued Monsters, that's fine…" Rex hurriedly added to not anger Liam who nodded his head before looking at Olivia.
'The explanation of the Arcane System should have been more than enough to understand the situation, are they just oblivious or stupid?'
