Chapter 42 Anger
Liam was pretty sure that the natives from the library weren't in a condition where they could scream out loud and run away from him.
Felicia might be considered the merciless murderer but Liam was the foreign being with eyes that looked like galaxies had been sealed inside them, a black horn that was jutting out of his forehead, and claws that tore through his opponents' fur and flesh as if they were made out of warm butter.
Everyone's eyes were either on him, Felicia, or the dead body of the young man whose attacks had endangered Liam's life.
This was something Liam noticed quite clearly but he had already accepted the given situation. He had been prepared for it, either way.
With a calm mind, and a clear recollection of how the natives would act when seeing him and being around him imprinted on his mind, Liam entered the gymnasium through the main entrance.
He was not wearing the black devil mask anymore since it had broken before but Liam acted as if everything was normal. Two younger men were guarding the main entrance from the inside. They knew Liam from the day before and didn't even realize that he wasn't wearing his mask. It took them a few seconds before they paled and their eyes widened in shock.
Liam had already walked past them by then, entering the hall where a few more natives were guarding the entrance.
'Felix and his people are doing a pretty decent job guarding the gym. Seems like there won't be an issue when I leave,' He thought, feeling somewhat satisfied.
Liam was still trying to control his anger since Felicia had robbed him of the chance to take it out on the young man whom she had killed. He felt a little bit frustrated, especially about the anger that didn't subside but he tried not to show it right now.
It took most natives a while to realize that Liam wasn't wearing his mask anymore, but when the first few realized Liam's missing mask and that he was definitely not human, the news spread through the hall like wildfire.
Several women screamed out instinctively. Their voices reverberated through the entire hall, alarming everyone whose attention moved over to Liam subconsciously.
Upon noticing Liam's true appearance, Felix and the others stared blankly at him at first. They had been taken by surprise and required a few seconds before their minds comprehended what was actually going on. Meanwhile, the screams filled with horror continued to resound in the hall.
Liam's frustration was further amplified by the screams that seemed to never quiet down. His head flicked to the left where a few women were still screaming. He triggered the Devil's Eyes and his expression changed ever so slightly. In response to his simple reaction to the screams, the women turned quiet in an instant.
Almost everyone in the hall was aware of what Liam was capable of. They had witnessed it and the last thing they wanted to happen was to experience what Liam could do to them!
Liam sensed a sudden shift in the atmosphere and he perceived a minuscule change in the Arcane Power's currents flowing within the hall. His head turned back to Felix's group and he was greeted with a fireball that shot straight at him.
Liam glanced behind him while his hand reached for the Casket of Trickery. His ducklings were still standing behind him, displaying their unwavering loyalty and trust in him though his appearance had shocked them to the core Liam, however, felt the need to put some sense into them, but now was not the time to do that. His hand had already retrieved a Black Tarthear Needle which he threw at the fireball. The fireball exploded the moment it collided with the needle as its tip pricked the ball.
For a quarter of a second, Liam was dazzled because his eyes were more sensitive than others when his Soultrait was triggered. However, that didn't affect him a lot even though a native dashed through the explosion, slashing at Liam with the intention to kill.
Liam's eyes turned even colder than before, his hands turned into claws in an instant and he pierced at the sword. The attack was forcefully halted as the scratching sound of the sharp tip of his claws clanging against the metal echoed through the hall. A quarter of a second later, Liam pierced out with his other claw, shattering the Natives' weapon without even breaking into a sweat.
"Just fuck off, if you're too weak to even scratch my claws!" Liam growled, spinning around his own axis before issuing a roundhouse kick that knocked out the young follower of Felix.
For a moment, he reconsidered killing the follower, but he decided against it. His life was worth more than his death, even if it was a close call. If not for the customized mission, a bloodbath would have ensued by now.
Liam looked at the people around him and he saw the fear in their eyes. It was a situation he was too familiar with, which was why he was not really affected by it.
"That is how you guys were supposed to react when I revealed my appearance earlier," Liam said calmly as he turned around to his ducklings.
Afterward, he turned to the shivering natives who were soaking wet and exhausted from trying to survive in the library for nearly an entire day.
"Don't act that weak, take some rest and fight for yourselves. Never expect someone to help you like I did," He suggested before turning back to the entrance he came from.
"I will take my leave. There is no need for anyone to see me out. Survive, otherwise, I will kill y'all!"
Once Liam finished issuing his threat, he stalked off. He strode outside the gymnasium with a straight back and not the slightest sign of him being worried that someone else would stupidly dare to attack him.
But there was no need to worry because Liam could easily evade any kind of attack the moment he sensed that something was off.
However, what he heard was not enough to turn around. There were only a few familiar noises that reached his ears.
'These idiots are not for real, are they?'
