Chapter 41 Fear
The gleam in Liam's eyes was enough to cause his ducklings to take a step back.
Their eyes quivered and their minds rattled as they saw the blood that trickled down the side of his head, neck, and his limbs.
Liam's wounds were shallow but that was not something he could be bothered about as of this moment. He had been attacked, that was all that mattered!
His eyes darted to the young man who went into hiding the moment the atmosphere tensed up.
The Natives who received Liam's glare moved aside, instinctively understanding that their obstruction could be deemed as a revolt against him. Their faces were drained of all their blood, and all they could do was stare into nothingness. They were unable to comprehend what had just happened and what was going to happen.
The only thing they comprehended properly was that something big was about to happen…After all, Liam's true identity had just been exposed in front of them.
Liam heard the murmurs around him but he paid them no heed.
His entire focus remained on the skinny, young man with the Soultrait to control and summon the winds.
"O-Oops…" The young man said while enduring the pressure a simple, yet, cold stare from Liam could cause as he shivered.
No apology followed the word issued by the young man. But it was not as if Liam expected anything grand from the young man, to begin with. He had heard the insincere words of the young man for the first time already.
Thus, he took a step forward, while the purple haze in his eyes intensified. The young man twitched and shuddered under the intense gaze that held him in place.
"I didn't mean to kill you. You were just in my way…" He struggled to speak and didn't even realize what words had inadvertently escaped his lips.
Liam nearly laughed out loud at the ridiculous excuse the young man gave for his actions. However, he was already too agitated to let it slide. Nobody could dare call him an obstacle, let alone injure him knowing that he had already worked his butt off to save their pitiful lives!
But even before Liam was able to lunge forward and rip out the young man's throat, a steel spear shot through the air. The spear had been released with a terrific velocity and it found its target in the stomach of the young man. His eyes widened in shock, disbelief, and terror making him stutter as a violent bolt of pain went straight to his head.
The young man coughed up blood and his vision blurred, but the woman who had hurled the spear at him didn't even cast a pitiful look at him as she stepped closer to him.
Her eyes were filled with warmth like the summer but her actions were cold and without any mercy. She stopped in front of the young man, grasped the shaft of the steel spear, and twisted it before she pulled the spear blade out. The young man was unable to gather the strength to remain standing and he collapsed on the ground where a puddle of blood formed in a matter of seconds.
The blood-colored the puddles of water red, while muffled screams of various women rang throughout the entire plaza.
Liam looked at the woman who was staring back at him without a trace of hesitation and narrowed her eyes.
He knew that the woman was Felicia Jaul, one of Olivia's friends and classmates. Felicia had been with them for the entire trip, but even though she had managed to survive everything until now, she didn't seem special. That was until now, of course.
Liam observed her for the first time and saw a woman with a warm expression. Her amber eyes seemed to exude gentleness. Her shoulder long hair, the color of hazelnuts, was wet and plastered to her body, just like the familiar student uniform that was worn by all of Liam's ducklings. The outlines of her charming physique were hinted through the clothes that were clinging to her tightly.
Felicia stood in the middle of the young man's puddle of blood but she didn't seem to mind that as a faint smile blossomed on her face when she noticed the attention she received from Liam. She winked at him, ignoring the bleak scene around her.
"Is that your real personality?" Liam asked whimsically, momentarily forgetting about the dead body and the fact that he hadn't been able to get the revenge he deserved.
"I don't know what you're talking about," Felicia said, giving him a shrug while continuing to smile at him. "He nearly killed you just to get some Arcanium. Who knows what he would have done inside the gymnasium? It would be horrifying if he were to find out that humans provide much more Arcanium than one may think!?!"
Liam furrowed his eyebrows when he heard Felicia's reason for taking a life of one of her own. Her words and actions made it look like she knew exactly what she was doing.
However, that was the complete opposite of her first reaction at the sight of mere Ordinary Huge Rats. Liam figured that Felicia had changed quite a lot compared to the previous day. She adapted fast, which was a good thing, but Liam didn't ignore the fact that Felicia could kill the young man without hesitation.
There was not an ounce of guilt in her words, actions, or attitude. It was almost as if she accepted that murdering him was for the greater good.
Liam looked at the body of the young man for a moment and he started to contemplate. He would have killed the young man as well, so there would not have been a change in the outcome, except that it was not him who killed the young man but Felicia, one of his ducklings.
The reactions Felicia received after her merciless murder were mixed. She was frowned upon far more than anyone dared to do with Liam, and they were more vocal about it.
They may be upset to see how mercilessly she killed a fellow human, seemingly without reason at that, yet, none of the newcomers dared to frown upon Liam. His glare was enough to forcefully shut their mouth and his appearance, without his mask, made clear that he was not from this world either.
'What the hell have we gotten ourselves into!?!' The newcomers wondered, stiffening when they heard Liam sighing deeply.
"Let's go inside…"
