Paragon of Death

Chapter 65

65 Chapter 64: Recruiting Lucy

“What the hell are you doing?” Lucy broke free from Damon’s loose grip and walked to a lonely part of the large room with a reddened face. It wasn’t that she felt disturbed by Damon touching her, it was disturbing that he was doing it in front of the others.

Her face was reddened as she gazed at Damon fiercely waiting for an explanation but she soon realized everyone in the room had a cold expression on their faces. It seemed like they were completely different now since the playful side of them was gone.

“How much do you know about the guardian spirit hosts?” Damon sighed and asked while jumping on his bed.

He lay there casually as he asked the question with a calm look on his face. His question was quite simple but when Lucy opened her mouth she couldn’t speak or at least she couldn’t find words to say.

Everyone was well aware of the dark ages in the empire when the guardian spirit hosts roamed free and did as they wished. Many of the world’s experts fell during that time and to bring them down the world had to gather its forces and join hands to defeat them. The thought of six people fighting against the entire continent while battling themselves at the same time was quite terrifying.

Even though the armies of the world were not the main target of their battle, the population of the continent was greatly reduced by over fifty percent! All the kingdoms today used to be empires in the past. But with their strength far lacking from what it was in the past, it could only leave so many places open and reduce to mere kingdoms now.

But with that said, that was just the worst set of guardian spirit hosts. Since then new hosts were born and killed. The world took no chances and murdered all the hosts as soon as they are discovered.

She really couldn’t justify the actions of the kingdom especially when it has to deal with things like this.

“In the past, I can understand that they were a serious threat and needed to be put down but recently I don’t think they should be hunted like dogs because of the actions of their predecessors” Lucy said firmly.

.....

“Then what if I tell you, every member of my team is related to the last set of guardian spirit hosts killed?” Damon said with a raised eyebrow.

“This...” Lucy muttered as she realized why everyone in the room suddenly turned stern when they came to check up on Damon and overheard the conversation.

“I am sorry for your losses” Lucy said with a deep bow.

“What if I tell you three out of the four of us are the new guardian spirit hosts?” Damon asked with fierce purple flames surging in his eyes and black cracks appearing all over his eyes!

Boom!

Lucy felt like she was struck by lightning when she heard those words. She quickly looked up only to see Cyrus’ golden eyes, Damon’s fierce purple eyes, and Gin’s crystal blue eyes!

“Life, death, and force! You are the one who killed the four students alongside the spirit foxes in them” Lucy muttered in shock while gazing at Damon.

She quickly recalled the last time when Damon and she spoke that night. He told her he was not just a werewolf and told her to turn her back and leave without looking back. Back then even with her back turned, his diabolical aura may have been suppressed by the formation but she still remembered feeling the intense threat of death looming over her at that moment!

It’s no wonder Damon sounded extremely calm and confident even when surrounded by a three-tailed fox spirit and numerous two-tailed fox spirits!

This was not expected!

“Bingo!” Gin said with a cold look but after a while, he shut his eyes and his sly smile returned.

“She’s not a threat. You don’t have to worry” Gin said while shooting Damon a glance.

“While the blue crystal eyes is an ability related to my deceased family due to the nature of our abilities that allow us to forge the best magic weapons but it’s more than that. Outside a person’s energy signature, I can see the smallest movements the human body makes, the strong beating of a heart. I can literally see through anyone. It’s hard to hide a lie unless you are as cold hearted as Damon or Klien ” Gin said and the duo chuckled at his accusations.

That didn’t mean they weren’t stunned. Who would have thought Gin possessed such ability?

“And you are only telling us about this now?” Damon asked with a raised eyebrow.

“Hmph! That’s rich, coming from someone who decided to hide his true background from us. Here we were thinking we were talking to a real member of the Ross family” Gin sneered.

“Hahaha! You didn’t ask” Damon laughed it off.

Meanwhile, Lucy was completely disoriented by all the information she just gathered now. She calmly sat down on a bed and frowned. Why would they give her all this information when she can just go and talk and reveal their secrets?

“I know you have doubts and questions but you must know this... The same kingdom won’t accept you as a Basilisk. Their sense of justice is twisted and selfish. We have all suffered at their hands and that’s what brings us together” Damon said.

“Are you really planning a revolution?” Lucy asked with a stern look on her face.

“With this kind of strength? Do I really look like I have the ability to do so even if I want to? We are simply a group of friends who look after each other. I just felt you deserve to know if you are planning to hang around us” Damon said casually. His facial expression was void of emotions making it difficult to understand the thoughts going through his mind.

.............

It took a couple of minutes before the entire situation was explained to her properly and only then did Lucy regain her composure. She left with the other members of the team for their next class while Damon remained behind, using the fusion accident as an excuse to stay away from class for a few days.

When everyone left he let out a sigh of relief.

Dragging Lucy over to their team was very necessary if he were to improve his strength. At this point, Damon silently creates a force of his own but it will be filled with exceptional individuals. Lucy was one of them!

“I will have to increase my power faster. Time is no longer on my side” Damon said with a deep frown. Things were advancing faster than he expected and he is expected to play an important role as a lone wolf in the kingdom.

To keep his team safe he needs to meet up to these expectations and to do that he needed strength.

“I guess the front lines is the only choice for me” Damon said with a frown.

After this short period of learning the basics in the academy, students would be sent out as interns and they get to pick where to serve. This internship will decide your career after your time in the academy.

If Damon wanted to improve his strength he could need to be where the fighting is happening the most.

The truth remains that the orc’s and humans relations are getting worse and more skirmishes are taking place even more frequently. If it were in the past Damon would be terrified but not now he has the power of a lone wolf. Even if he lacked the cultivation base to fight them as a mage, his power as a lone wolf is not to be looked down on.

“Since that’s decided It’s time to improve my strength using the souls accumulated the previous night” Damon said with a frown.

He had absorbed the souls of four two-tailed fox spirits the previous night alongside that of the four students.

Each of those four fox spirits is equivalent to level three human realm individuals. The esteemed human level!

With their accumulated souls consumed, if Damon should refine the power he should be able to push his realm up to the esteemed human level too.

Sitting like a statue, Damon shot his eyes but the black cracks kept spreading across his face slowly but surely! Screams and cries of help could be heard within his soul but he ignored the pleas for help and mercy.

His presence was like fierce darkish purple flames, burning all the soils to nothing! With each soul completely consumed he gained an unimaginable amount of energy spread through his body. He continued this process till all eight souls were completely digested and his body had reached its energy cap!

Crack!

A glass shattering sound could be heard as Damon’s hair fluttered fiercely! He was at a critical point of his breakthrough, he couldn’t afford to focus on anything else now!
