Chapter 64
64 Chapter 63: Valued asset!
The arch mage was about to leave the room but then he noticed Lucy. He frowned slightly as he wasn’t sure how much she heard and since she wasn’t the type to spend time with Damon’s crew it was a bit shocking. Either way, considering the fact that Gin and the rest made no attempts to send her away he assumed she was their friend and nodded at her before leaving.
Walking down the stairs he was still completely dazed by everything that happened. He is the spirit realm arch mage of the great Gyro Kingdom who has fought countless wars, defeated extremely powerful foes, and earned the title of the arch mage for this Kingdom.
He has lived for two centuries at the very least and may even be nearing the end of another century for him.
He and the King had a strong bond which gave them a nearly equal levels of authority. In this Kingdom, the king comes first, and sitting in a position even above the princes and princesses is the arch mage. Only then can you consider other direct descendants of the crown before you meet the Dukes, Marquise, Earl, Viscount, and finally Barons!
He was no different from the king’s shadow!
Yet he let a child talk to him in this manner!
What was more infuriating was that he clearly had no intentions of acting against Damon since he silently believed everything Damon said.
In summary, Damon wasn’t blaming the kingdom for their actions since he doesn’t believe in the concept of good and bad but he said one thing which is true.
If these people wronged by the kingdom should turn their back on the kingdom and form a revolution, no one had the right to blame them.
.....
Knowing how the kingdom works such a revolution will be put down immediately and all members killed. So seeing this from their perspective, this was no different from killing people fighting against oppression and injustice.
How is that fair?
“You know, when the boy kept speaking, I could tell he meant every single word he said and in reality, he is not wrong but he is not right either. Like he said the line between good and evil is so thin it can be overlooked at times” Pope Light’s voice echoed as his figure phased into existence.
No one would have known he was around but Kratos knew. His cold gaze shifted to the old bishop and soon shifted.
“The kingdom has three Dukes and in the past before the death of the original Duke Hail, we all know what the kingdom suffered at the hands of the guardian spirit hosts. They are too unstable and unpredictable. But that doesn’t mean I didn’t notice the efforts the last set of guardian spirit hosts put in to keep their powers in check.” Kratos said coldly.
“His majesty requested their heads and with no other choice I had to obey, we all had to” Kratos added with a sad tone in his voice.
“Hmph! When did the terrifying void mage who dominated the continent his youth become so weak-hearted? Is it because of that child who is a commoner adopted into the house of Barons? We are all part of this kingdom and for the sake of peace, sacrifices must be made. I killed my grandson for the sake of this peace, anyone who dares undermine our sacrifices should be charged with treason and executed!” Pope Light said coldly but Kratos simply shrugged his shoulders and kept walking down the stairs.
“I know everything we have done has been for the sake of the kingdom and should not be undermined but think of it from the point of Damon and other victims. Did you not see the look on the face of your youngest grandson? I could see the rage, sorrow, and loss. He lost a big brother whom he looked up to and loved. Tell me that these people affected by our actions have no right to grieve and feel annoyed.” Kratos said calmly
His words were like lightning, striking the heart of the old Pope. His frown soon vanished and he found himself walking down the stairs in silence with the Archmage. While they were not good people, they weren’t necessarily bad people. Everything they have done so far has been for the sake of the Kingdom and that’s why there is a human race on a continent filled with lizard men, Elves, Orcs, and Dwarves.
None of these races are inferior and many of them have special traits which humans lack. In normal circumstances, humans are disadvantaged so it wasn’t surprising that they engaged in necessary surprises like this just to survive this long.
“Having a lone wolf, talented with three elemental affinities and more who has a grudge against the kingdom roam free is not a wise move to make” Pope Light suddenly said in a low tone.
“Don’t even think about it. Don’t you think we have killed too many based on assumptions? While he was emotional back there, Damon is a rational person, this is a moment of weakness. By the way, we still need him if we wish to deal with the blood clan so we just have to give him a reason to remain with the kingdom, that is how it has always been. Assets are given benefits and liabilities are removed. Damon Ross is an asset no matter how much we try to deny it” Kratos said with a slight frown and walked a bit faster.
..........
Damon remained on his bed, silent as he remained seated in a cross-legged position. His eyes were incredibly calm now, compared to before and he carried a different air. The sudden change left the rest of his team stunned and inwardly wary of Damon.
How can someone switch from sadness to indifference in a matter of seconds?
“What just happened?” Lucy was the most confused amongst them as her eyes darted around.
Just like Damon the rest of the team was relatively calm but they were still a bit shaken by his words.
“What went wrong?” Cyrus asked.
“Yea, you are not the type to act this way, so why?” Gin asked.
Knowing Damon, he knew Damon wouldn’t let his emotions get the better of him. Past events like this are not enough to bring out such strong emotions from Damon.
“The Pope was here too but hidden” Damon said and everyone’s eyes steeled.
The air in the room turned heavy and even Lucy felt the air turn heavy, she felt extremely uncomfortable.
Bam!
A loud sound could be heard and when she looked back she realized Klien just locked the door.
“Cyrus?” Klien asked and the next moment bright golden energy expanded from his body and spread across the room.
After a while, the light died down and Cyrus shook his head in approval.
“No formation was secretly placed in this room. They are not watching” Cyrus said.
“Or listening,” Damon said.
Hiding from him and Cyrus was practically impossible. While both had a strong affinity to life and death, there was no way a living thing could exist around them without noticing. Also, Damon could feel negative emotions. As long as the negative emotion is directed towards him, no matter how far the person is, Damon would notice!
“Can someone tell me what is going on here?” Lucy was confused.
She was currently seeing another side of this team that she has never seen before. There weren’t the same as they were moments ago. They looked like people who just crossed paths with their arch enemies!
“You like Damon right and want to be a part of the group?” Gin’s sly voice echoed from behind causing her to turn!
Upon turning she saw Gin standing close to her with his eyes wide open for the first time. Even Damon and the rest haven’t seen this before so they were taken aback too. His eyes were not like normal eyes. There were no pupils, just fierce blue light surging uncontrollably.
If Gin were to open his eyes in a dark room, his eyes would be no different from a blue touch light!
Lucy panicked and her hand instinctively struck forward like lightning but it was stopped before it could reach Gin’s cold face.
She felt Damon’s grip but even before she could speak she felt him embrace her from behind. A warm feeling spread through her body which made her shiver and her legs weak.
“What is this?” She muttered in a low tone to Damon whose breath ran down her neck making her blush.
“If you truly want me, then there are some things you must know. But you should know, that knowledge is dangerous. Just by knowing this your life will be at risk. Are you willing to take that step for me?” Damon whispered those words into her ears.
Even without answering she felt his lips on her neck and his fangs pressing against her neck. His eyes were bright purple, the kind that would terrify a person but she oddly felt comfortable around him. It made her feel safe instead since she knew his hostility was not directed towards her!
