Chapter 34: Positioning

Chapter 34: Positioning

When the time came, all the guild masters headed to the portal. Despite being in the middle of the night, some hunters were still around and ready to fight the mechanical warriors. They tend to show up once every five minutes during the day, but it is impossible to tell when they will show up at night...

There was no room for mistakes, and saying anything else would only cause problems or make people think too much, so Vanessa just jumped in the portal, and everyone followed her.

Terry already had the bow and an arrow nocked when he appeared on the other side. Much to everyone's surprise, pretty much the enemies around were awake and in front of a campfire. Even before either side could react, Terry fired an arrow that flew in a straight line and pierced the head of an enemy.

Icicle Longbow - Lv 21(16/220) (Uncommon)

Attack Power: 110

Movement Speed Debuff: 21%

Charges: 40/40

Durability: 32/32

(Critical Charge: when dealing critical damage on the target, you recover one charge automatically.)

(Cold of War: When hitting the same opponent twice with the arrows of this bow, you put them under the 'frostbite' status effect and make them lose five points of health per second for ten seconds.)

(Sniper: doubles the range of the arrows fired by this bow.)

(Triple Shot: consumes three charges to fire three arrows at the same time at the target, causing the usual damage plus twenty percent per arrow.)

"Sixteen points of experience... not bad!" Terry thought while he was already selecting the next target.

The enemies were in an arc in front of the portal... they didn't expect that Terry and the others would arrive in the middle of the night. Still, they quickly recovered and readied themselves to fight. However, a rain of electric arrows was fired toward them, and they were paralyzed for a couple of seconds.

The strategy changed due to the position of the enemies. The ranged hunters already had a clear view of the enemies, so they just attacked. Arrows, earth spears, electric attacks, flames... they used everything in their arsenal.

The first enemies that recovered made their weird weapons expand and cover their bodies before they charged toward the group. Terry fired one arrow toward the nearest enemy and then clicked his tongue when the creature blocked with its sword.

"It was twenty meters away... the arrow crossed that distance 0,1 seconds... how did that thing block the arrow?" Terry wondered.

Terry used Triple Shot. The first arrow pushed the weapon of the enemy to the side, the second hit its head, and the final one made it fly... it was quite a grotesque scene, and it was overkill. Instead of attacking like before, Terry focused his arrows on the enemies that were already attacking instead of approaching. Thanks to that, his next arrows killed the enemies after hitting their heads, and they didn't even notice it...

Vanessa fired another wave of electric arrows and stopped the nearby enemies. The frontlines used that chance to attack with all their might... the enemies began to fall one after the other after getting hit in the head...

In the blink of an eye, half of the enemies were decimated. That was the power of the guild masters... Thanks to that, some of the monsters began to run away toward the opposite direction of the portal. It wasn't possible to see due to the darkness of the night, but their base was probably in that direction.

Terry aimed at them and then used Triple Shot. He didn't have time to aim at their heads, but the arrows piercing their back did the job. Things could have been a lot easier if Vanessa could use all her power, but she couldn't without making a scene, so the Ranged hunters had to chase a lot of the enemies. The Melee hunters were even faster with their traits, so that helped a lot.

In the end, at the cost of half of his charges, Terry manages to kill ten of the enemies and approaches to check their bodies. They had to move on soon, but everyone could at least get the weird metal that their weapons became. Terry's power didn't react to it since it was only a square piece of weird metal the size of a finger.

"We need to keep moving," Vanessa declared. "We need to infiltrate their base and kill their leader before sunrise."

The group killed a large force of enemies without getting too injured, but Terry could feel the smell of blood coming from some of the guild masters when they began to move. It was weak, but it was there...

The pace of the group was quite fast since they had a time limit, and the enemy base was ten kilometers away. Still, since pretty much everyone there were super humans, just running was easy.

Vanessa was nearby, and it looked like she wanted to say something, but she didn't since that would make everyone's focus change toward her. Terry just shrugged at that...

Eventually, the group managed to see a town in the distance. They could even see some tall poles mimicking energy poles with Concentrated flames at the top of them. Not to mention, the town was walled... crossing the walls without being revealed by the flames will be difficult. They need to choose a stop to invade quickly and then kill everyone nearby without being noticed.

"We will attack the left side. Terry will identify and attack the enemies on the left side, and Hugo will help him obtain the proper position for that. "Amelia and Sarah will do the same in the opposite direction."

Terry wanted to hear more details, but they quickly arrived there, and then the blue armor guy jumped with all his might after putting Terry on his left shoulder.
