Chapter 33: The owner of the dungeon
Chapter 33: The owner of the dungeon
The monsters still were a mystery. Terry destroyed some camps of giants, but they never stopped coming and always showed up at regular intervals. The same thing could be said about the mechanical warriors.
Thirty years had passed since they began to show up, and the human race still was taking baby steps to understand the situation. In fact, it seemed that they only wanted to make use of the situation to get materials in order to make things that they couldn't before... Only a handful of people were actually trying to solve things.
"At first, I thought that attacking them periodically would be the best option, but we can't risk them moving their entire army," Vanessa said.
"What about reinforcements once we create a foothold on the other side?" Mary asked.
"A large number of us will only alert the enemies. Our main goal is to kill the boss and then retreat while we decrease their numbers further," Vanessa said. "Since they are a sapient species, they will become like a mob without their leader. Defeating them like that should be easy."
Vanessa had considered all scenarios and options, so there wasn't anything that they could ask that she would be unable to respond to. She has been trying to clear the dungeon for two weeks, after all.
"Since all of us want to have control over this dungeon, the one who lands the last hit on the boss will get it," Vanessa said. "Still, I would recommend saving some energy for the retreat. The town is ten kilometers away from the portal, after all. More details will be given tomorrow night before departure, which will be at midnight."
Terry thought that it would be better to take it easy and slowly decrease the number of enemies would be the best option. However, Vanessa was considering the possible outcomes and for how long the guild masters could be away from his guild... probably no more than one week.
"Well, at least I have plenty of time to buy weapons around the city," Terry thought. "I should check the other dungeons and see if I can get something nice for melee fighting."
The guild masters began to spread, and Terry looked for a guard that had a map of the city with the location of the bases of the guilds. It didn't take long for him to find one. Speaking of which, there was a base in the extreme southern part of Long Island and another in the extreme Northern part.. it was going to take a while to reach both parts.
It would have been easy to ask someone to take him there, but again, Terry didn't want to let anyone know about his actions and activities.
On the southern side, the guild was hunting in a world that had frozen slimes. They didn't seem to be that tough, but the guild still managed to get some items. What caught Terry's attention was a pair of crystal gloves.
Crystal Gloves - Lv 0 (0/00 EXP) (Magic)
Attack Power: 08
Defense: 03
Durability: 04/04
(Frostbite: causes three points of ice damage and decreases the speed of the target for three seconds after hitting them.)
It had a similar effect to the icicle Longbow, but Terry was more interested in the potential and rarity level. It seemed to be one level above uncommon, so perhaps it could reach even higher levels than the bow... abandoning the skills and effects of the other gloves was a waste. Still, it would be better to level up the new ones as much as possible.
Terry checked the other base to see if there was something worth buying, even though the crystal gloves cost him 50k. In the other dungeon, people were facing Skeletons, ordinary ones. Hence, the quality of the items was low, and Terry didn't find anything decent.
"It doesn't seem like I am going to find items in shops that increase speed or magic resistance, or health and mana," Terry thought. "Those are rare to come by, so it is better to use them instead of selling..."
In any case, Terry decided to level the gloves in his room. He looked for Louis and then asked him to guide him to the hotel. It was only two hundred meters away since the whole area had been evacuated.
In the end, while using all his free time, Terry only managed to make the crystal gloves reach level four. However, the attack power was almost on the same level as the hard gloves... unfortunately, the defense was six times lower.
"I need to deal with the enemies as soon as possible... it might become dangerous if I get hit," Terry thought.
The new gloves granted Terry more potential in attacking power. Still, the defense was really low... hopefully, the skills and effects of the crystal gloves will make up for that.
Although Terry had planned to have dinner in his room again, Vanessa called everyone to have dinner together on the first floor. It seemed that she was going to give the final details there as well. They ate calmly, but then Vanessa stepped forward to reveal the final details.
"The last time I checked, around one hundred enemies were near the portal; we should expect at least that much," Vanessa said. "To make sure that we will stop them before they inform their allies about our arrival, we are going to split into groups. The Melee and the ranged hunters, the Ranged ones, will be the tip of the spear and focus on leaving the enemy perimeter while eliminating the obstacles. The others will focus on defense while drawing the aggro of the remaining enemies and keep at it until the ranged fighters have a clear view to offer support without being disrupted."
Terry could be part of both groups, but since the ratio was one ranged for two melee warriors, he ended up joining the first group. As long as he hits the enemies' heads, he won't run out of arrows, but doing that at night will be difficult...
