Chapter 242
242 The Lonely Devil (3)
(Jane’s PoV)
Since their pattern had broken, those ghosts and shadows started to disperse only for a split second. Those split seconds were enough for me to see what was hiding in the middle of their formation.
There was a black hole in a shape of a small gate. It really looked like those I saw in the books, only this one was not in the space, but in the middle of a forest. Wicked aura dispersed from the portal and as the howls and moans got louder and terrifying, the aura thickened.
It looked almost as if something evil would pop out from the black hole. It was almost agonizing to wait for what would happen. However, both Sanji and I knew that nothing good would come out from it.
I didn’t even know since when I held my breath. Only after those ghosts and shadows did some ‘strange and terrifying’ dancing around the hole, that I finally realized to breathe again.
Loud roar marked the entrance of some kind of devil creature. My body went to full alert as I knew this thing couldn’t be underestimated. Whatever came out from the hole, it must be something more frightening than the usual ghosts and shadows.
The first thing that I saw was red. The negative aura around us changed into thick bloodlust; an urge to overpower and conquer the surrounding, a wish to see everything dyed in red tickled my senses. This monster was so strong that its aura alone could affect people.
It was just too bad that I was pretty much immune to this kind of threat. It only needed me a bit of mental power to shake off those thoughts.
As the red creatures still forced its way out from the black hole, the bloodlust aura got thicker. I heard a grunt behind my back -thankfully that stupid creature let out an ear deafening roar again so that this grunt was masked perfectly.
.....
I looked back only to see Sanji was fighting with his urge. It was not easy for him, but it was not impossible. After all, he was one of the students under Siji’s tutelage.
His eyes were reflecting a thick urge of killing intent. It went off like a light bulb; on and off repeatedly. If we weren’t in a dangerous situation, I would have laughed at him. However, I was too tense to laugh. I watched as Sanji fought with the urge for a while. I could help him, shielding him from all the negative aura came from the red creature. However, his stubborn eyes told me not to do anything, that he got it under control.
Since he silently warned me not to do anything, I decided to keep watching. If I were to see that it was getting dangerous, I would not hesitate to step in.
It only took around ten to fifteen seconds, but it felt so long for me. Every second was precious to us and every second could lead us to our doom. It was fortunate that Sanji managed to get hold of himself before the creature in the portal fully came out.
“Are you okay?” I whispered as I helped him support his body. His pale face was covered with a thin layer of sweat.
Sanji nodded. His eyes reflected an even stronger determination. I was sure his power got upgraded after this incident. As expected, real life challenge was the best teacher -if only the risk was not big.
There was a grey hue around his head, probably the shape of his barrier. I was wondering how a string type spiritual power holder could create a light barrier. Turned out I was wrong.
It wasn’t light at all.
As the strongest offensive type of power, people who possessed string type usually lacked in defense. Unlike my type of power which could be manipulated at will and went offensive and defensive at the same time, string type could only be either one of them.
It could only go offensive or defensive, never both.
Seeing that he had successfully activated the defensive side of his power, I sighed in relief. It seemed that he could only protect himself for now and unable to attack. I remembered the form of his power and felt slightly pity that I couldn’t witness it wrecking havoc in the middle of this chaos.
How wonderful it was to see it scare these things away.
Too bad, I couldn’t see it.
Never mind. At least, I didn’t have to worry about him getting affected by the wicked aura around us.
“Wait here.” I took him into a good hiding spot. “I need to take care of whatever coming out from that hole. It smells like a bad news.” My eyes squinted as I focused all my gaze towards that red creature.
“Okay. Sorry I’ll try my best to recover soon.” He nodded while looking at me with helpless gaze. Obviously he was still blaming himself for not being able to help me.
“No worries. Just protect yourself well.” I smiled at him reassuringly.
There was a loud sound reverberating in the forest, successfully scaring those people nearby. It was the sound of the portal being pulled open forcefully by the evil creature. As soon as the hole was getting bigger, a head popped out. Its malicious eyes and wide grin made its appearance even more menacing.
Sensing the aura coming from creature, my body went into full alert mode. The thing in front of me was something far more wicked and stronger than anything I had ever faced -I didn’t count the King of Devil of Red Sea since I only faced with its underlings.
I didn’t have time to conceal my own power. Even if I didn’t use it to one hundred percent, it was still more than half of them. I wasn’t planning to underestimate it, but I could easily adjust later after I exchanged blows with it, right?
“Foolish human, I’m going to dye your land red with blood!” The voice was thick and harsh, malevolent intent spread to the surrounding with a swoosh.
The howl and moans of the ghost and shadows echoed in the forest, replying to the red creature. They all danced around the portal, welcoming the presence of the evil creature to the human world. Half of the body had come out from the portal. Both of its claws were clawing at the invisible frame, pulling out its body from the other side of the portal. Judging from how hard it tried to force its way out, its body must be huge.
I took a deep breath and focused my eyes at my target. You wanted to create a blood field in human realm? Let’s see if you have the ability to do that!
Shielding my whole body with my spiritual power, I dashed towards the portal. The crowd of ghost and shadows in front of me dispersed before I could even reach them. Their annoying eerie howl went into silent scream as I used a bit of the smoke to block their throats. Before the red creature realized what was happening, I had jumped in front of its face with my fist ready to punch its big head.
The red creature: ” ...!!!”
“Get back to where you’re from!” I hissed before I swung my fist down to its head.
BOOM!!
