My Divine Pet System

Chapter 19

C19 – To Become a Giant

“What the heck? Just one evolutionary path?” Qin Hongyu scrutinized his battle spirit’s data several times, yet each time, the result was the same: a solitary route to evolution.

To date, he had encountered a myriad of battle spirits, but not one had presented this peculiar scenario.

Take the earth system spirit turtle that had recently reached the growth stage—it boasted over a dozen evolutionary pathways, and that was considered on the lower end. Others flaunted as many as dozens of options.

But his lightning Serpent Spirit was an anomaly. Upon reaching the growth stage, it had a singular path of evolution, destined to become a Jade Serpent.

Qin Hongyu hastily reviewed his evolution tree. In stark contrast to the tangled web of branches characterizing other battle spirits’ trees, his was bare, a “lone commander” with a single main branch and no offshoots.

Yet, there was a silver lining: the lone path of his evolution tree culminated in the Supreme Spirit!

While observing others awaken their battle spirits, he had employed his “Divine Pet Evolution System” to dissect their evolutionary prospects. Of all the spirits analyzed, a mere three held the potential to ascend to Supreme Spirit status.

Two were the infant spirits belonging to him and Fu Tian, and the third was a light system spirit, an exceedingly rare Elemental Infant Spirit.

This ethereal spirit, akin to a natural element, had the freedom to morph into a light system battle spirit during its growth stage.

The individual blessed with this spirit was fast-tracked to Class A, bypassing the second assessment and directly appointed as the class leader.

“Hahaha… That was a close call!” Qin Hongyu breathed a sigh of relief, his exclamation betraying his earlier worry.

For many, the abundance of evolutionary routes was crucial; a battle spirit with numerous paths was more likely to be documented and studied, benefiting from the groundwork laid by predecessors.

But for Qin Hongyu, the quantity of evolutionary options was irrelevant. His sights were set on the path to the Supreme Spirit. With only one route available, he was spared the hassle of choice.

“Kid, don’t dwell on the downside. True, this Serpent Spirit can only evolve up to the mature stage and no further, but you’ve still earned the title of Battle Spirit Fighter. There’s no need for gloom…”

Hearing Qin Hongyu’s laughter, the teacher responsible for overseeing the awakening process thought he was experiencing a mental breakdown from the shock and quickly offered words of comfort.

Qin Hongyu paused, then realized his behavior might seem inappropriate. With a grin, he clarified, “I’m not being overly pessimistic. I’m actually overjoyed.”

“Ah?” The awakening teacher looked utterly baffled and took a moment to regain his composure before shaking his head and saying, “Ah, it’s rare to awaken a lightning attribute, only to end up with a crippled Battle Spirit. No wonder you’re upset. Here’s your personal information sheet; go ahead and take it…”

Qin Hongyu accepted the sheet and briefly reviewed his personal details:

Name: Qin Hongyu

Battle Spirit: Serpent Spirit

Attribute: Lightning

Potential: Low-ranked Battle Spirit

Class Recommendation: Class D

Indeed, he wasn’t at all surprised by the class assignment. He suspected he was already considered a lost cause by the teachers.

Resigned, Qin Hongyu shook his head. He was about to leave when he suddenly turned back to the awakening teacher and declared, “If I can’t stand on the shoulders of giants, then I’ll just have to become the giant myself.”
