Chapter 111 Its The Truth
Zhao Lifei suspiciously eyed her giddy expression.
"Qinqin, we’re adults now." She chided her, already guessing the plan.
"H-huh? I don’t know what you’re talking about." Yang Ruqin sheepishly smiled, innocently batting her eyes even though she was pretty much caught red-handed.
"I will not always argue for you — especially if you’re in the wrong." Zhao Lifei chuckled when Ruqin pouted, her eyes growing wide as she put on her best puppy look.
"But Feifei!" She whined like a clingy child, which she pretty much was.
Zhao Lifei rolled her eyes with an amused smile on her lips. "Besides, I can’t always go against your brother’s words. It’s not like he’ll listen to me forever—"
"I know for a fact that he will! He looks at you like a lovestruck fool. I’m sure if you told him to jump off a building, he’ll ask you if you want to see any cool tricks!" Yang Ruqin exasperatedly clasped her hands together, already envisioning the things that Feifei could do for her. Maybe if she begged enough, Feifei would convince her overbearing brother to not drag her back to the main mansion anymore...
"Cool tricks?" Zhao Lifei repeated, raising a curious brow.
"Yeah!" She lowered her voice to speak deeper and rougher in an attempt to imitate her brother, "Want me to backflip over this building instead?"
Zhao Lifei let out a peal of laughter upon seeing the poor imitation of Yang Feng. "Stop it, Qinqin. Your brother will never do that." She rolled her eyes in disbelief at how dramatic Yang Ruqin could be.
"But it’s true!" Yang Ruqin was unhappy that she doesn’t believe her. Just as she opened her mouth to speak again, her phone went off. She glanced down and her face paled. It was her manager.
She had completely forgotten that she had rescheduled a lot of her appointments to stay with her Feifei as much as she could! Her eyes flew to the time and she nearly cried on the spot. She had one for tonight that she just couldn’t cancel...
Zhao Lifei also saw who was calling and chuckled. She knew Yang Ruqin was going to be in for an earful. She may not have been scolded by her parents today, but her manager would most definitely reprimand her.
"Go to the shoot now. It’s only five in the afternoon. You can still make it." Zhao Lifei shooed her out of the room just as Yang Ruqin picked up the call. Before Yang Ruqin could even speak, a loud voice had already started berating her, forcing the poor woman to cringe back and hold the phone at a safe distance.
Zhao Lifei watched in amusement as Yang Ruqin walked out of the room, not daring to speak a single word as her manager berated her again and again.
Since she finally had some time to herself, she decided to finally check up on her phone. A sharp tingling sensation shot up from her stomach as she attempted to reach for it on the nightstand. It seems the wound was too deep that it had not yet healed even with all this time.
’This wound is nothing compared to what you’ve suffered before...’ She thought to herself, climbing out of the comfortable bed to grab her phone. Once she had gotten it, she waddled back to her bed and climbed in again.
She was surprised her phone was even intact. She had expected it to be broken beyond repair. How did her phone even get returned? Did Yang Feng find it on the way to the warehouse?
She ran her finger over the smooth glass screen, a soft expression on her face when she thought about Yang Feng. She thought his affections would disappear after seeing what she was able to do...She didn’t expect him to stay and behave the same way he always did around her, as if that night was a mere dream. In fact, their relationship seems much closer now...
She turned on her phone and dozens of notifications popped up. Her eyes widened in shock upon seeing all the missed calls from Lu Minhong. From reading his text messages, she could tell he was angry that she promised him free food and groceries but never showed up. His messages transitioned from rage to concern then back to anger as the days passed by.
Surprisingly, her grandfather didn’t call her as many times as Lu Minhong did. He only called her excessively from the time she had been kidnapped up to around the time that she had been rescued. She had an inkling that Yang Feng probably told him so that he wouldn’t worry about her.
After thinking for a while, Zhao Lifei decided it was best to call Lu Minhong. She nervously chewed on her fingernails, waiting for him to pick up but he never did. She called again, but this time, it rang once and went straight to voicemail.
She frowned. He was truly infuriated by her. She texted him and sighed in relief when she saw the ’read’ icon. But ten minutes passed and he still refused to respond to her...
"Well, it’s official. He’s really mad at me." She muttered to herself, deciding to visit him once she was better. She had the great idea to cook him his favorite dishes before visiting him, in hopes that food would cheer the sullen man up.
Next, she decided to call her grandfather. He picked up on the second ring. "Grandfather, I can explain—"
"Xiao Fei, I already heard the story from Yang Feng." He cut straight to the chase. Two weeks ago, he received an urgent report that his granddaughter had been abducted. Before he could even mobilize his own resources, Yang Feng had already reached out to tell him that he was working on rescuing his granddaughter. Within three hours, Yang Feng had brought her to the hospital. He was surprised the brat wasn’t shocked to see her kill so many men.
"You are not allowed to take public transportation anymore, nor will you move back to your previous apartment complex."
Zhao Lifei understood why her grandfather wanted her to move. Whoever had ordered for her kidnapping would surely know her address, and if they didn’t, they do now that she told the seemingly innocent cab driver.
"Okay, I will look to buy a car—"
"Actually, that’s not necessary." Zhao Moyao lightly laughed.
He had planned on assigning a personal driver for Zhao Lifei but an overbearing man beat him to the chase.
Yang Feng had not only dispatched his most loyal driver, but the security and car that he had gotten for Zhao Lifei were top notch. On top of getting her a personal driver, Yang Feng had gotten her two additional cars for her security detail, treating her like she was the most important person in this country. He had also been informed that there was a penthouse that was already in Zhao Lifei’s name that she could move into.
"Your dear Yang Heng had already made arrangements for your transportation. He also said there’s a secure penthouse you can live in once you’re out of the hospital. He tied it back to this little, what was it again...hm..." He trailed off.
Li Xuan who was in his boss’s office couldn’t help but sigh in disappointment. It seemed that horrible habit of his boss won’t be changing anytime soon... He just hoped his boss won’t actually call CEO Yang with this "nickname".
Zhao Lifei knew what her grandfather was referring to. Their gift war. At this point, she was not sure who was in the lead anymore.
"Yes, it’s a gift exchange thing. It’s sort of an inside joke." She seemed to be in a daze as she internally started backtracking on who last gave a gift.
She always thought she’d be winning by now since she had saved his life and even found evidence to trace back the assassination. However, that USB drive does not seem to be too useful. Plus, he saved her life by bringing her to the hospital. And by securing her safety, he was technically in the lead!
’Damn it, I have to think of something else!’ She thought to herself, racking her brain for sentimental gifts to turn him into a love-struck fool. Hah!
"Hm, is that so." Zhao Moyao answered with a fond smile on his face. He was happy to know they had gotten closer. He remembered the incident back at the office where she refused to even look or speak to him unless necessary! Hearing the way she spoke about him now, he was glad their relationship had progressed to the point of where they even had an inside joke.
Zhao Lifei thought back to Yang Yulong’s words. "Grandfather...How much did Yang Feng tell you?" She wondered whether he had already told her grandfather the gruesome details.
"Enough to know he buried the dead bodies." Zhao Moyao lightly answered, as if he was commenting on the weather instead of talking about mass murder.
Yang Feng was very experienced in dealing with those sorts of things since the Underworld frequently committed unsaid crimes. And with Zhao Moyao’s cooperation and government connections, this will soon become a distant memory for all of them.
