Merged Soul: Reincarnated in a Dark World

Chapter 37: Shadows of the past

Chapter 37: Shadows of the past

Amelia stared at the pale man who was just an arm's reach away from her, his rhythmical undulation somehow made her happy, his sharp defined face seemed sculpted out of ice.

Without even communicating she felt her attraction for him growing, and it made her feel conflicted, she had tried ignoring him and staying home but somehow she always ends up here.

She stretched her arm and her slender fingers grazed Derek's face, she jerked and withdrew her hands, her cheeks were glossy as she fidgeted.

Her eyes trailed down to his lips, to his chiseled chest which could still be seen as the shirt he wore was very light, his body was covered so she could only see from his chest up.

She stretched her arm again and slowly gripped Derek's hand, his hand was cold but very comfortable for her, suddenly Derek's brows trembled and he tightened his grip, Amelia's brows fluttered and she felt weird for a moment, Derek's grip felt so satisfying, butterflies were dancing in her tummy and a beautiful smile appeared on her face.

She looked at the Holo monitor and Derek's vitals had changed, the doctors would be here soon, so though reluctant she had to release her grip and leave the room.

A few minutes later, two doctors were checking Derek's condition...

"His improving at an impressive rate!" The first one hollered, he was alarmed by Derek's healing rate.

The second man was silent, he just nodded and wrote down some things on the pad, and signaled the other man, they both walked away and the door slid shut.

NOOOO!!.... BOOOOMMM!!... RUN!!... HELP...

HE NEEDS... GO!... IT'S OVER!!..

Screams kept echoing in Derek's ears as he covered his ears with his hands and shut his eyes tightly, still, the painful screams kept piercing into his core, and loud explosions with different voices merged and created a huge mess as Derek felt his brain going to implode.

He felt pain, anger, and sadness, these voices seemed so close yet so distant to him, the noise suddenly stopped and Derek raised his head, his surroundings were total darkness, vast endless darkness that stretched to infinity.

He turned around and still the same sight

"Where am I, where the hell am I!!" He yelled with all his might, his voice kept echoing without stopping.

His breathing became rough and he bolted aimlessly, he ran until his entire body ached, strangely there wasn't a single bead of sweat on his body.

"I need to go back...I need to go back.." he kept murmuring like a broken record as he fell to the ground and stared at what he should call the sky, the whole place was pitch black even the ground he lay on, he couldn't see a thing as the darkness seemed like it wanted to devour him. **

Time slowly trickled by...

In a huge white room, which had only a queen-sized bed with a man peacefully sleeping on it, a Holo monitor at the wall behind the bed, was showing his vitals, his face was brightened by the sunlight that flooded through the floor-to-ceiling glass wall.

"He should have woken up by now, what's going on?" Jasmine complained to her husband, who stood close to the unconscious Derek who lay on a huge bed covered with a white soft bedsheet, Luke stared at the handsome boy whose skin had regained its healthy color and pondered, he raised his head.

"Where's Angel?"

"She's at the base, came this morning, and is very distraught. It's been more than a month, his vitals are okay, and his body is completely healthy but he still hasn't woken up, we have tried everything but nothing worked, it's like he stuck.."

Jasmine couldn't finish her words as Luke completed it "... Inside his mind"

"Yeah.. we've checked his brain waves and it's super active, how are we going to wake him up?" Jasmine queried with a stronger tone at the end of her words.

"I don't know what's wrong with him but we should wait, one more week, if he doesn't wake up then extreme measures will be taken".

Jasmine nodded as she completely agreed with him, she gazed at Derek and sighed, she felt pity, at a such young age he had to pass through many tough situations, it was sad and painful.

"Arrgghh!!" A scream pierced through the darkness as Derek's sanity was drowning in the endless voices ringing in his head, it felt like eons had passed and he once again disappointed them, who were they... He kept on questioning himself.

"I need to leave this place"

"To where" an ethereal voice echoed, Derek was too unfocused to realize that it wasn't his voice as he answered.

"To my home.." he couldn't finish as different he suddenly stopped, he finally realized someone else was here.

"But this is your home Derek" the voice sounds so much familiar and archaic that Derek was bewildered, he turned back but no one was there it was still dark.

"Where's your home... Xon... Earth... You've never accepted these two worlds, you want something better, You're too useless to even with your current power how..."

"Arrrrgggghhh...!!!!, SHUT UP!!" Derek screamed with a distorted expression, his eyes were red and his entire body burned with rage. "You don't know the pain I had to go through, you know nothing!! So stop being a coward and face me, stop hiding you, bastard!!"

"Hehehehe... it's really funny to see a person curse himself with such hatred, let's see your greatest pain shall we...

A bright light flashed and Derek covered his eyes, when he opened them, the darkness was gone.

He stood at the roadside and saw himself, or should he say the Derek on Earth, young Derek who was sixteen was happily carrying a gift he had bought with almost all his savings.

He had found out about his mother and was about to meet her today, this would be the most significant day of his life as his smile was as bright as the burning sun which illuminated the entire Earth.

Derek sighed when he saw Earth once again, it felt different, there was no link, no remorse, nothing. He increased his pace as he walked behind the young Derek with people walking past Derek as they couldn't see anything. Derek ignored them and followed the young Derek for a while before he stopped, he saw young Derek rush towards his mother only to be first greeted with a slap and her brutal words which pierced through young Derek's heart and met phantom Derek's.

"Get lost you filthy brat, I stopped being your mother the day your useless father died," young Derek could only weep as he saw his mother's new kids, a boy and a girl two years younger than him, staring at him with disgust, the girl spared no efforts in holding her laughter as they walked into a luxurious car and zoomed off.

While phantom Derek stared at young Derek who knelt on the ground weeping, conclusions about his parents flashed through his head, it turns out his father also died from being hit by a truck, and his mother's continuous mocking had made the poor man take a walk at night while thinking he unconsciously made his way to the road.

Young Derek slowly stood up and stumbled away, phantom Derek took a step forward, he wanted to follow young Derek but a strange sight entered his eyes when as he saw the shadow of young Derek, his pupils shrunk and trembled with great intensity "how is this possible!" He screamed though no one could hear him.

The entire place bean cracking like a mirror, and suddenly Derek felt Someone standing behind him, though he didn't know who it was, he strangely felt calm.

"find Danny.."

The man's words were the last thing Derek heard as his vision darkened.

Huff, Huff, Huff…

In a room, a man woke up, his breath was rough as beads of sweat covered his forehead.
