72  A Show of force

A few days later.

" The pay is good, you can accept it" inside the Eastern city guard house. Leon could be seen seated on a spinning chair directly opposite the chief of the guard house.

"Yeah it is pretty good," standing beside him was Carlson who had some papers in his hand.

Leon was obligated to work with the guard team for two weeks, the first was completed and the second was given to them as an off, so technically he was done with them. But who would expect Leon to come to them with a job proposal.

Short-term guard contracts. In his hand were a bunch of contracts where he and his team would become temporary guards for a VIP and they would get much better pay....it wasn't like Leon was poaching them, the city allowed such privileges for people of influence, as long as they could pay the fees.

Especially in times like these, where the royalty was being bled dry by the massive influx of warlocks into the city. They would accept any form of external revenue at this point.

Plus, it wasn't like Carlson's team would be acting in the authority of city guards. It was more of a private thing, they wouldn't even be allowed to use city guard amour on this endeavor.

"Okay, we'll do it. " Carlson accepted,

He was from a noble family called the Waterway family. They were very strict with their descendants. At a particular age, they would be sent off to fend for themselves. Other than spells and some special training and rewards, they received no help from the family.

Carlson was a Noble by status, but in reality he was about as rich as a middle-class worker.

"Okay, let's meet at this location tomorrow, then we will head out together. I still have some other things to do" Leon stood up and shook Carlson. Then he proceeded to walk off.

Carlson couldn't help but muse, a few days ago Leon was just a random level 1 guard under his tutelage, but now all of a sudden, he was presenting him with such a lucrative job.

Was being a mercenary that lucrative?

A day later,

Inside of Badur's Gate

Leon could be seen feeding a black serpent with eyes akin to glowing silver pearls. He had in his hand a bowl with strips of meat mixed with several medicinal herbs. n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om

This serpent, he had gotten from the blue salamander clan, had undergone a change inside badurs gate, turning its body from its milky white color to a shiny black shade. Leon didn't know exactly what this change entailed, but he could already feel the negative energy flowing through its veins.

"The growth is incredible" Leon mused while petting the snake as it slithered around his shoulders. It was at least 2ft long at this point.

"Ah?" Suddenly, Leon felt a tingling sensation in his head followed by a subtle calling.

"They are here" the voice resounded in his ear. Upon receiving this message, he proceeded to walk towards the exit of badurs gate.

Inside a small courtyard

Leon's figure emerged from the steel gate in the corner of a courtyard, with a black serpent around his shoulders.

"They are outside" Arian looked over at Leon and said causally. He nodded and began walking out of the courtyard, Meanwhile, Badurs gate slowly faded out of existence behind him.

When Leon stepped outside, he was met with a luxurious carriage being tolled by two beautiful white horses.

Surrounding them were a troop of about 6 guards on similar stead, abet the change in color.

This was the security team Leon had prepared for the A rank mission. With the money he got from Peri he was able to offer Carlson and his men a good contract to secure their participation, and with the rest, he procured a high quality carriage with horses and other equipment.

This was the type of standard Leon liked, and it was one befitting a person of Peri's standard.

"Let's go" Leon stepped into the carriage while Arian followed behind.

"Neighhh!!" The horses neighed and slowly started moving, pulling the carriage forward from the courtyard, and soon they made a turn towards the Eastern city market. Their destination was the Jade tools mining company store.

"Hm?" In the middle of the bustling market, the sound of people being pushed could be heard.

"Hm? What's going on?"

"Hey!!"

Not so far away, a man in high-grade amour with a spear appeared from behind the crowd.

 "move out of the way!!"

The man's voice carried a mountain of force that subconsciously struck a cord the hearts of the on goers.

Soon enough, the people in the market started turning to see what was going on.

The hooves of horses and the wheels of a carriage sounded as a luxurious carriage made its way down the street of the market.

Beside the carriage were men in high grade shiny amour...

"Oh my god, hurry leave the road, it's a noble!!!" From the side of the market, an old lady warned the on goers. Just as the word noble reached their ears….they all instinctively cleared a path.

No one wanted to get on the bad side of a noble, so they immediately cleared a path, but in their mind they couldn't help but wonder why a noble would come here.

A market was no place for nobility, they had maids and servants for that.

Slowly, the carriage made its way down the market streets, until finally, it stopped before the Jade tools mining company store.

"Hmm? Isn't that Evil Peri's store?"

"Don't tell me she offended a big time noble this time"

"Serves her right!! Taking up all this space in the market that's meant for everyone. Karma finally got her"

Actually, a lot of store owners in the market disliked Peri. They saw the massive piece of land she owned in the market and were immediately jealous. Even though she bought the land legally, they still hated her.

Seeing a noble stop beside her shop to punish her made them happy.

"Formation!!!" Carlson commanded at the top of his voice and all of a sudden, the six guards surrounding the carriage formed a straight line in front of the Jade tools mining store.

At this point, Peri and all her female security/assistants were outside watching this new development with caution. Did the kentow family finally decide to end Peri?

They didn't know what was going on….that is until

The door to the carriage opened up and Leon, who was in a black silky kimono, stepped out. He proceeded to walk before the guards and stopped.

"Your new security team" Leon said loudly following this, the guards hit the floor with the bottom of their spears
