Chapter 616: Chapter 616 - The Heiress and the Guild Master
A young girl with blonde hair tied neatly at the nape of her neck strode confidently into the room and took a seat opposite Leon. Her bright yellow dress, which fell just to her knees, added a youthful vibrancy to her appearance. She seemed to be about fifteen years old.
"Sit," she said, her tone light but firm.
Leon smiled faintly and took a seat.
"Leon Chambers!" she exclaimed, following her greeting with a playful, light-hearted laugh. "Oh, how thrilled I am to receive a visit from the Guild Master, who I am, of course, endlessly proud of."
The girl was exactly as he remembered her from the game, everything from her hair color to her distinctive mannerisms matched perfectly. However, here in her lavish home, she fully embodied the role of a young, wealthy, and slightly snobbish heiress.
"My name is Melliandra," she said. "So you can just call me that, just like in the game."
"Hi, Melliandra," Leon replied. "Thank you very much for your warm greeting."n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
Leon had grown accustomed to the stark differences between people's in-game personas and their real-world behavior.
Lucy, for instance, exuded confidence within the game but was gentle and reserved outside of it. Goldrich, on the other hand, aligned closely with his in-game persona.
Melliandra, however, surprised him. Her initial impression in real life was far friendlier than he had anticipated.
"So, how was your trip here?"
"It was interesting," he said. "Though I didn't really feel the journey. I spent most of it inside a capsule device."
Melliandra slowly exhaled.
"I still hate you for taking my precious ring," she said, leaning back on the sofa.
"But you dropped it, remember?" Leon replied evenly. "I had every right to take it."
"You're really very annoying, you know that!"
"But I'm your Guild Master now."
"That doesn't change the fact that I hate you," she shot back, crossing her arms with a mock pout.
Leon smiled at her blunt words, feeling like the Melliandra he knew in the game was now fully present.
"I came to extend an invitation to you," he began. "We want you to join us in the competition."
Melliandra leaned back on the sofa, her gaze drifting momentarily before settling on him.
"I'm feeling pretty reluctant to partake in this competition," she said firmly, "not without an upgrade to my sniper rifle."
Her expression hardened. "You gotta do something about this, Leon!"
"I'm certain that with the resources you already have, you'll still be able to perform exceptionally well."
Melliandra's eyes narrowed, and she shook her head. "Yes, but I want more. I have the money, but I can't find anyone who can craft me something powerful. Every gunsmith I've met has been utterly useless!"
Leon tilted his head thoughtfully. "Do you have a good blueprint that fits your needs, Melliandra?"
She nodded faintly. "Yes, I have two blueprints," she admitted. "But the requirements to complete them are ridiculously strict. I doubt I'll ever manage to get a sniper rifle of decent quality."
Leon remained quiet for a moment, letting Melliandra gather her thoughts.
"Leon, do you know how I can make a contract with a spirit as cute as Polly?"
"I'm not really sure," Leon admitted with a slight shrug. "I got Polly by coincidence. Maybe Goldrich, Freya, or Jovina could give you better advice."
Melliandra sighed softly. "I really want a cute spirit like Polly..."
"That stupid RememberMe... " Her mood shifted quickly, though, as she rolled her eyes.
"I've already heard about the invitation to join the team. I was hoping for some more experienced members. But I guess I don't have much of a choice if I have to be in a team with someone as much of a beginner as you."
Leon raised an eyebrow. "You call me a beginner, yet you still chose to join my guild."
"That's because all the members of the Ass Guild decided to join your guild," Melliandra replied. "Do you seriously expect me to stay alone? You should consider yourself lucky to have someone as talented as me."
"So, what's your decision?"
Melliandra let out an exaggerated sigh. "Yes... I don't have another option," she finally said. "I suppose it won't be too much of a burden for the team if I take on this task."
"I'm glad to have you on board, Melliandra."
She waved a hand dismissively. "Of course you are. You'd be hopeless without me."
Of all the people Leon had expected to meet, Melliandra was the last person who came to mind. Despite her outward stubbornness and haughty demeanor, he found her surprisingly amiable once he got to know her better.
When they first crossed paths in the game, her immediate plan had been to kill him. Likely a reflection of her youthful immaturity and impulsive nature. Yet, over time, her personality revealed itself to be more layered than he initially thought.
Melliandra had grown up in a life of privilege, surrounded by bodyguards, servants, and an environment that catered to her every whim. She seemed to have the means to obtain anything she desired, an upbringing that undoubtedly influenced her character, both in the game and in the real world.
Her confident, sometimes brash nature masked a person who, despite her advantages, sought purpose and connection. Qualities Leon was beginning to recognize as valuable to the team.
"What's the best way for me to upgrade my game character, Leon?"
She had been talking to Leon endlessly about the Gunsmith class, suggesting he should consider taking it. However, Leon wasn't keen on the idea-he already had too much on his plate. Adding another production class would be like committing to being logged into the game 24/7, and he knew that wasn't sustainable.
"Well," Leon replied, "what about crafting new armor, rings, or necklaces?"
Melliandra shook her head slightly. "I rely mostly on my weapon," she said firmly. "Since I'm
a long-range shooter, the weapon is everything. Everything else seems fine as it is."
Leon considered this for a moment before offering, "I can upgrade your armor and weapon, but only if you have enough soul stones."
"Oh, really? You've never mentioned this before!"
After chatting for a while about the potential of finding the best Gunsmith in Immortal Legacy, the conversation grew more relaxed.
Melliandra's demeanor softened, and she appeared far friendlier and less stubborn than before. The two continued talking comfortably for several more minutes.
"I'm sure you need some rest after the trip. Ronald said everyone was fine with staying here for the night. There are plenty of rooms in this house."
"Sure, I'm on board with that plan."
He followed Melliandra to the elevator, and they rode up to her private floor. When they arrived, Leon found himself in a spacious room designed for comfort and entertainment. The room boasted ample lounging space, several capsule devices, and a massive screen
dominating one wall.
Freya and Ronald were already there, waiting for them.
"So, how is it?" Ronald asked enthusiastically. "Did she accept the invitation?"
Leon answered with a friendly smile, "Yes, she did."
"Shut up! I only accepted this offer because I truly appreciate all of you coming all the way to
my house!"
