Chapter 86 - Last Duel
The duel between survivors and hunters continued. After the short battle between Noah and Alaric, it was finally time for the battle between rogues.
The two players walked forward to close the distance as done in the previous battle.
Dave, The Ninja from Immortal Knights, gave Dimitri a death stare through his mask. Dimitri, on the other hand, had a contemptuous look on his face.
In Dave’s hands were a pair of jet-black daggers slightly longer than normal daggers. But they weren’t all he had. All sorts of other sharp weapons were hidden in his costume.
From the way he positioned himself and his weapons in front of Dimitri, it was clear that this man in his 30s was a true assassin.
Whoosh!
Dimitri dashed forward and swung his two katars to form an X slash toward his opponent.
CLANK!
The two rogues’ weapons clashed. Due to the way Dave positioned his daggers to parry, the long and sharp claw-shaped katars were stuck on the black daggers.
Dimitri’s arm muscles tensed up.
Bang!
Taking the opportunity when his opponent’s hands were locked in the air, Dave harshly slammed his shoulders to Dimitri’s chest, sending him flying onto the maze wall behind him.
Cough! Cough!
The previously-arrogant rogue roughly coughed. His chest hurt, and he even began to find it hard to breathe properly due to the sudden attack.
But The Ninja’s attack didn’t stop there. Just a few seconds after he was flung, Dave continued to dash toward him at full speed and slashed his daggers right at Dimitri’s chest.
SPLAT!
SPLAT!
Before Dimitri had a chance to recover, Dave spun his body, landed with one leg, and swiftly used the other to throw a strong front kick, once again targeting his opponent’s chest.
Bang!
This time, his attack managed to knock Dimitri down to the ground and into the cold layer of snow below him.
Blood poured out of the two tear wounds on Dimitri’s chest, staining the pure white snow around him. He struggled to get up, but he couldn’t muster his strength.
He still found it difficult to breathe even through his gaping mouth, and it wasn’t hard to see that he was in severe pain.
Dave stopped his brutal attacks to wipe the blood that got to his face for a moment. Even though it only stained his mask and not the skin of his face, it still disgusted him.
His gaze didn’t soften the slightest. Unlike the young man on the ground, he remained calm and could control his breathing rhythm very well.
Dimitri wasn’t the type to easily accept that he lost. Thus, making use of the brief pause, he secretly grabbed a handful of snow and quickly threw it to his opponent’s face.
Puck!
Slash!
Despite his severe wounds, his accuracy was still surprisingly good. The moment the snow hit Dave’s face, Dimitri swiftly moved to slash The Ninja’s legs.
Right as he felt the stinging pain, Dave immediately jumped back with a hiss. His boots were cleanly torn and blood had started dripping onto the white snow, trailing backward following his movement.
Suddenly, his legs felt burning hot.
“Tsk… you’ve lost!” Ignoring the blood heavily flowing out of his chest, Dimitri forced himself to stand back up.
Dave always paid attention to Dimitri’s weapons as he already knew that they were covered in a strong poison, but he didn’t think that the rogue would still be able to move with those wide-open wounds.
His legs quickly felt numb. However, the mere thought of being defeated by this young man in front of him was unacceptable to him.
On the other side, Dimitri chuckled after he successfully stood up on his feet. He knew well just how lethal the poison on his katars was, and he was confident that no one would be able to move after getting affected.
Even just coming into contact with it would allow the poison to seep through the pores, much less getting wounded by something with it. Because of this, he lowered his hands and simply waited for the poison to do the rest.
He didn’t know that his opponent wasn’t the type to easily give up, even under immense pressure. Even though he had to strain all his muscles like a madman, Dave still forced his body to move.
Using [Void Phantom], he dashed forward while taking out a spearhead twice his daggers’ size to rip his opponent’s throat.
SPLAT!
Blood heavily rushed out of Dimitri’s severed neck, and…
Crash!
The two of them fell to the white ground stained with red.
Dave had already used up all of his strength. He couldn’t even lift his head to face away from Dimitri’s blood-covered chest, but he had a satisfied look on his face.
“If I’m going to lose, I’m taking you with me,” the man muttered. This was the first time that he spoke.
Crash!
After their HP reached below zero, the two rogues’ avatars finally shattered and turned into crystal fragments that slowly vanished into thin air.
[Survivor: 1 survivor has been eliminated]
[1 hunter can no longer hunt]
[1 hunter has been eliminated from the game]
The current score was one victory for the survivors and zero for the hunters.
The last duel would decide whether the survivors would emerge victorious or not.
Despite being on the verge of losing, the calm expression on Ace’s face didn’t change. The hunters behind him let out hums and growls of anger as their victory was on the line, but he ignored them all.
“A draw. I didn’t expect you guys to be able to beat my teammates.” Ace walked forward for the last duel.
In front of him, Hiro had done the same. His eyes looked straight at the other party as he checked the equipment Ace had on.
Fortunately, he didn’t hide the status of his equipment, allowing him to know his opponent’s build.
“Brother, do you really have to do this?” Liberty ran up to Ace and asked in a soft voice.
On the other side, Hiro quietly paid attention to her.
‘Does she not want to see her brother and her boyfriend fight?’ he couldn’t help thinking. However, right after the thought crossed his mind, his body stiffened up a little.
‘Boyfriend?’
Hiro quickly shook his head to get rid of the distracted thoughts that appeared every time he saw Liberty.
This time, he had to focus on the duel. Not just for him, but also for the hundred thousand survivors that had their hopes on him.
“I’ll be fine, Liberty. Stand back, okay? I don’t want you to get hurt.” Ace patted his little sister’s head, treating her like a child. Liberty frowned, but she still went back next to Niklaus, who was the only remaining party member aside from Ace.
“According to the score right now, if I win the duel, us hunters will get nothing,” Ace began speaking.
Hiro had guessed that Ace wouldn’t start the duel without a word. The duel’s initial rule had to be revised.
Besides, he also couldn’t think of a solution if this duel ended in a draw like Dave and Dimitri’s battle.
He waited for Ace to finish speaking.
“So how about we make this duel decide which team wins?”
Hiro subconsciously frowned. “What do you mean?”
“If I win, victory goes to the hunter team. What do you say?”
