Chapter 468 Dungeon Gems
The room on the other side of the vortex looked just how William expected it to look, various types of cracked dungeon brick lining the walls, floor, and ceiling. The exterior was even more nostalgic, small groups of skeletal creatures roaming in a dimly lit hallway.
The moment the group entered the hall, the skeletons started running on either two legs or all-fours, their bones rattling as they charged towards the group. Judging by his companions' lack of surprise, William guessed that this happens during every visit to the Dungeon.
It seemed that Magical Beasts respawned in the Quake Dungeon, maybe in the same way that Riyald was able to do so in the Trial Tower. While Jeron, Benny, and the third student known as Jonas prepared themselves for a short battle, William carefully inspected the walls, noticing a few disabled traps that probably triggered on the moment of engagement.
He didn't think to look for this because of his Vision Talent, nor because of his knowledge of Arrays. It was just pure intuition. If someone else hadn't deactivated the traps who knows how long ago, he guessed that the others would have been pelted with poison-tipped arrows.
He looked further down the hallway to see a T-shaped intersection, the left side illuminated by some kind of artificial light while the other was dark. Once again, William had no need to guess that the left side was a safe path marked by previous groups.
The more he compared the Quake Dungeon to his memories of playing games, the more that William realized this was just as Efretta had intended. Somehow, she had influenced even video games to contain key aspects of the Celestial Planes.
I can't believe she put so much thought into the culture of her World... William was in complete awe while his group quickly cleared away the skeletons. Their strength was in the early stages of the Tribulation Transcendence Realm, so there was little risk to William's party.
He was more focused on a small greenish-blue object that burst from the dead bodies of the skeletons when carved into by Jeron's knife. It was triangular-shaped and greenish-blue, very closely resembling a beautifully-cut tourmaline gemstone. Enjoy more content from empire
More importantly, it was just like a game that William himself hadn't played much of, but it was one of Fria's favorites!
It was as if Efretta used the video games of Reius as a form of training for potential Cultivators, and those with the knowledge of these games would surely succeed when traveling through dungeons. It made William wonder what else was out there that resembled his video game knowledge.
Too bad Fria isn't here... she would probably fly through this type of Dungeon. I only know the basics... William frowned slightly, but didn't let it bother him. Some advantage was better than no advantage.
"Hey, why didn't you help us out?" Benny frowned while looking at William, his slightly pouty expression reminding William of the boy's age.
William shrugged, "I've never been in here before, and it looked like you could handle it. Was I wrong?"
"Well... no. But!"Nôv(el)B\\jnn
Jeron stepped in early and placed his hand on the younger boy's shoulder, "Don't worry about it, Benny. We're the ones that invited him."
With Jeron's input, Benny decided to drop the matter and give William another chance. It was only the first floor, and the three of them alone could climb to the tenth floor without breaking a sweat. Benny smirked, trying to guess which floor William would be helpless on.
The third floor? The fourth maybe if he had some talent? There was no way that William would make it past the fifth floor without some help, so Benny didn't even consider it. After all, the Quake Dungeon spawned a Boss on every fifth floor.
"Come on, this way." Jeron motioned to the group before taking a left at the intersection. It was just as William had anticipated; the lighting was a path for other Cultivators to reach higher levels.
But why would they do this? William wondered. If the Cultivators were creating pathways for others, wouldn't it lower their chances of attaining good loot in the end? What if others caught up to their exploration and progressed forward?
-Humans are fickle creatures. How could they throw away their advantage just like that?
That's what I'm saying. It doesn't make sense.
-If you were playing a puzzle game and you were stuck on a hard level, would you keep trying the level over and over until you succeeded, or would you look for an easier solution?
Well obviously the easier way is the best way. Most of the time at least.
-Exactly. And what's easier than letting someone else do the hard work for you?
William's eyes brightened up as he understood what the System was trying to say. If the previous groups had a difficult trial ahead of them, they could just wait for someone else to do all the heavy lifting.
If they were confident in their strength, then they wouldn't mind giving up a small reward to speed up their exploration.
But what kind of group would do this?
Even after clearing multiple groups of skeletons and reaching the stairway to the second floor, William still didn't know. He watched silently from the back of the group while Jeron and the others did all the fighting.
Benny couldn't help but grow angrier at this point, but this time even Jeron couldn't defend William. After a quick exchange of glances between Jeron, Benny, and Jonas, the group decided that William would do the fighting on the second floor.
It was nothing personal, really. They just didn't want to carry William through all the floors without first seeing what he was capable of. If he was able to spy on them from such a distance, they were confident that William wasn't a total pushover.
But it didn't matter if he didn't help them at all!
The moment that William and the group reached the second floor, William was greeted by a horde of over twenty middle stages Tribulation Transcendence Realm skeletons. Instead of rushing forward to engage them in battle, Jeron and his two companions retreated, signaling to William that it was all up to him.
Fuck... they're really going to do this to me? William sighed as he retrieved his Abyssal Weapon Shifter from a Space Ring.
With a clanging noise, the Abyssal Weapon Shifter transformed into a giant boomerang that William promptly threw at the skeletons, spinning wildly as it cut the entire horde in half. After a few seconds, the boomerang turned around and returned to William's grasp.
Having been cut by a sharp object instead of stuck by Spells, the horde of skeletons instantly poofed into a pile of tourmaline gemstones, their green hue barely illuminated by the natural light of the dungeon.
The other three's mouths were open wide with shock as William casually walked up and stored all the gemstones in his Space Ring, essentially claiming them as his own. Considering the strength that William showed in that brief moment, they wondered if he would even need help clearing the second floor at all!
-Acquired Quake Dungeon Gem (x24): +24 PP
24 Potential Points?!? William was about to scream profanities at the System when a secondary System message appeared in his view.
