Chapter 300 - Criticism From The Entire Tribe
With the World Tree on fire and burning branches falling from the sky, the leaves rustled with high-pitch frequencies like they were screaming in pain.
The entire elf tribe could only stand and watch as it happened, even if it felt like their whole world was collapsing.
Even though they quickly found out the Heavenly Tribulation appeared without rhyme nor reason and barraged their World Tree, there was nothing they could do to stop it.
The Heavenly Tribulation was not to be trifled with but interfered.
"Is there nothing we can do to help our guardian deity?" an elf boy clenched his fist with unwillingness, but a sense of powerlessness filled his heart.
A male elf shook his head sadly in response, "None. The power of the Heavenly Tribulation will increase if the World Tree receives outside help. Unfortunately, this is something it has to overcome on its own or perish in attempting so."
"But this doesn't make sense. Heavenly Tribulations only appear to test a being's qualification to surpass the limits of the world and achieve immortalization. How can there be another Heavenly Tribulation when the World Tree is already a True Immortal-level existence?" another elf asked.
"This…" the male elf was also puzzled and said with a shake of his head, "I'm afraid only the heavens has the answer to that."
"Maybe our World Tree is receiving a re-examination due to the different world we're in?" a female elf made a bold guess.
As preposterous and unprecedented as it seemed, many elves began to agree with such a possibility. They could not think of another reason for the Heavenly Tribulation's arrival.
…
Many elves rushed inside and outside of Willow's Secret to deliver news to Princess Floria as the grand event unfolded.
After Princess Floria calmed down, her gaze shifted to Albion.
"Lord Albion, if it isn't too much to ask, I hope you can also save our—" Princess Floria proceeded with her request, only to be interrupted by Albion's raised hand.
"I know what you want to ask, but it won't be necessary. If the World Tree overcame the Heaven Tribulation once, then it could definitely do it again. Besides, your guardian deity will not want my help," Albion shook his head.
The Heavenly Tribulation wasn't just a trial to overcome mortality. It was also an opportunity to receive blessings from the heavens if one survived through it.
"If I try to help, it will mostly think that I am trying to steal its opportunity and attack me. But, more importantly, my interference will only increase the Tribulation Lightning's power by twofold and decrease the World Tree's chance of success," Albion explained calmly.
In other words, his inference will only risk getting both of them killed. So there was no need for him to be involved in unnecessary risks.
It won't be late for Albion to reap the benefits after the World Tree overcame the Heavenly Tribulation and resummon the Light of Ascension.
He was just running low on divine energy.
"I see…" Princess Floria was convinced by Albion's reason and nodded apologetically, "It was imprudent of me to ask, Lord Albion. I wasn't thinking clearly just now."
"It's fine." Albion waved his hand nonchalantly and said, "I understand your concern for the World Tree, but there's no need to worry. Although it seems to be in a bad situation, it won't be an issue for the World Tree—"
"TRUE IMMORTAL—!!"
Before Albion could finish speaking, a booming voice, full of wrath and hatred, suddenly exploded in the ears of every person within the World Tree's vicinity.
Although there was no actual sound, everyone heard it in their minds loud and clear like the thunder in the skies.
"That… It's the voice of the World Tree's spirit, our guardian deity!" Princess Floria exclaimed after her initial surprise before glancing at Albion suspiciously, "It seems to be calling for you, Lord Albion."
"Me? No, no, no. You must be mistaken," Albion shook his head and said, "The World Tree is also a True Immortal-level existence. It could be calling itself."
"WHERE IS THE TRUE IMMORTAL? GET THE F*CK OUT HERE, NOW!" the World Tree's spirit immediately roared again as if to refute Albion's words.
"…"
Princess Floria and Albion glanced at each other speechlessly.
"It is definitely calling for you…" Princess Floria stated the obvious.
There was nothing else Albion could say at this point to worm himself out of the situation. Not a single elf doubted that the World Tree was looking for him.
…
"The World Tree is looking for the True Immortal? Was there another True Immortal around here besides the World Tree?" an elf in the tribe was surprised.
"I heard this foreign world also had a being at the True Immortal-level… Could the World Tree be looking for that person? I think that person was called…"
"The Dark Lord!" many elves exclaimed with alarm.
The recent stir in the tribe that caused the mobilization of troops into the forest. As long as the elves weren't living under a rock, they would have all heard the news related to it.
"What! When did the Dark Lord infiltrate our tribe?! Why hasn't anyone found out about this until now?! What are those scouts doing?!"
"I heard that the Dark Lord was a master of disguise. So he might have disguised himself as one of our people before sneaking into the tribe openly."
"Then what are we all doing?! Quickly look for anyone unfamiliar that may have entered the tribe recently!"
As the elves on the street shouted at each other, Albion overheard everything before feeling Princess Floria's hot stare.
"You'll help our World Tree, right?" she asked.
"Well…"
Boom!
Another Tribulation Lightning struck the World Tree, but with even greater power than the last few strikes, causing the World Tree's spirit to roar painfully.
"TRUE IMMORTAL! COME OUT AND ACCEPT YOUR TRIBULATION! I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE!"
"What!"
The entire elf tribe was immediately enraged.
"This wasn't our World Tree's Heavenly Tribulation, but the Dark Lord's Heavenly Tribulation?! No wonder why our World Tree is so miserable!"
"Making our World Tree endure someone else's Heavenly Tribulation, and a Heavenly Tribulation at twofold power at that! The Dark Lord is indeed a horrible person as rumored."
As the entire tribe criticized him, a dark look hung on Albion's face.
He wasn't expecting a heavenly tribulation, and the World Tree was so big, it practically covered the sky!
How the f*ck was he supposed to know it was his tribulation?!
