Chapter 172: Hope?

Alex started to slowly spin around in the air, His eyes were wide open. Alex looked around, trying to aim while he shot in that spin. He didn't want to shoot blindly but actually get some accurate shots in as well.

*BANG BANG BANG BANG*

A barrage of shots echoed in the cave as the gun smoke filled the cave air. Alex landed on the ground and looked at what happened after. The closest attackers were on the floor while the ones far away were unharmed. ' I guess that isn't a good move for long-ranged attacks but to think it would be this effective for people up close It's actually scary.' Alex said to himself.

'Kid, You decided to be more accurate with your shots, that's what has changed. Sure, I can do most of the work for you when it comes to using the weapons, but I also have my own limits. And you broke through that limit by aiming. It seems like I was correct, You do have a knack for longer ranged combat, That accuracy you had on close ranged was all on you. You got at least 3 shots each into both the close ranged awakeneds.' Hades sounded proud and happy.

Alex however, didn't feel anything. His body was numb and his mind felt heavy. Killing wasn't a thing he could take lightly, especially if the dead were humans. However, Alex shook his head and spoke, "This is for the greater good." His body felt cooler and his mind felt more relaxed. Alex's eyes turned an even darker red while he looked at the remaining three awakeneds. 

The ice manipulator looked at Alex in shock and screamed, "He's a peak A rank! Another monster came with that bitch. Run!" The awakened seemed to be the leader among the five and as soon as they gave their orders, The other two seemed to be more hesitant with their attack. They wanted to run away as well.

The Ice awakened put up ice walls and tried to make a path for themselves to escape but Alex quickly caught up with them and punched them. 'I can't kill an escaping man' Alex said to himself as he went after the other two. 

The awakened with a gun saw Alex take down their leader and screamed, "We have no way out, just kill him!" He shot a flurry of bullets towards Alex. It was kill or be killed for him and the invisible awakened.

Alex sighed and looked at the gun, He could see the bullets in air and could physically dodge them. It seemed as if his reflexes were even quicker now. And the bullets that he couldn't have dodged before were now extremely easy to see. 

Alex shot back at the awakened, Killing him almost instantly. He then looked around the cave. Alex's face was very cold at the moment, he seemed to be almost a different person.

'It seems like the black cube is finally having a noticeable effect on his mind The coldness and lack of empathy he had just now from killing that man showed it I can't say that it's bad but the remorse he will feel later on after its effects wear out will be something that would affect him All I can do now is watch and help him. I'm sure that Alex will soon understand and accept this dark energy that his body is somehow rejecting. Just like right now, He might be more cold and less empathetic towards his enemies but His powers will increase by another margin His feelings on his allies will be dependent on him however, Alex could turn less empathetic overall and give no regard to life itself, or remain the same I can't do anything at this moment but try to support him and hope for the best.' Hades sounded happy that Alex's body seemed to accept some of that power but also saddened by the thought of there being a chance of Alex losing himself in it.

Alex looked around and could see a slight movement on the rocks. He quickly rushed towards the place and stabbed the invisible Awakened with his dagger. The awakened looked at Alex and fell limp. All of them were dead except for the ice awakened.

Alex's eyes seemed to go brighter now as he felt more in control. Alex looked at his hands and spoke, "That power I felt something more powerful in my body after killing the two but to think that I wouldn't even think about their lives while taking it is a scary thing" Alex didn't know what to think

But the word of Hana rang in his mind once more, Alex took a deep breather and sighed, "The enemies It also depends on the enemies. They were very ready to end my life but I still thought twice before ending theirs initially when I should have just done it I need to just accept that power for my enemies. If I think too much about it, innocent people might be the ones who die." Alex came to his resolve.

'Hah, To think he would actually think about this all right here and accept it I can't believe it but The kid is growing on his own as well. Before he would have still been childish about it and tried to reject it but now, he understood the circumstances and accepted it. I hope he keeps his mental will this strong in the future and not let the power take over him. All the previous ones were the same in letting the power take over their will, turning them into the true rulers of the dark But If this kid won't let that happen, We might finally reach the goal of freeing them I've been trying to not keep my hopes up but, Kid, I hope you continue in the right direction. I'll be here to guide you but I hope you keep at it' Hades thought to himself in excitement.
